Pierce Wolters Wolters, a senior at Osborne High School, is one of the top mid-distance runners in the area this season. Through May 9, Wolters had turned in a top time of 2 minutes, 5.19 seconds in the 800-meter run — second only behind Norton’s Tyus Henson — and a 4:41.25 in the 1,600-meter run, which was good for the top time in the area this season. Wolters is among a group of Osborne boys who had won all but one meet they attended in that same time span.

She is a senior from Edwardsville, and a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School.

Rachel Miller The defending Class 1A 100-meter hurdles champion, Miller has followed that up with a strong spring in her junior campaign for Downs-Lakeside. Miller has been among the top runners in the area and the state in the 100 hurdles, the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Through May 9, her best time of 12.38 seconds in the 100 led the area, and her top time of 25.67 in the 200 was second. She also owned the area’s best time in the hurdles at 14.62.

Emmit Owens A senior on the Trego Community High School boys’ golf team, Owens averaged a 73.5 through eight rounds for the Golden Eagles, turning in a low round of 70 twice — at Hoisington and at Hill City. He only finished outside the 70s once, shooting an 82 in Osborne. Owens the Golden Eagles were considered among the favorites for a team trophy by the Kansas Golf Coaches as the No. 4 ranked team though May 9. Owens was ranked No. 3 in the same rankings.
