Thomas Harmon Harmon, who was a state medalist in cross country for the Otis-Bison Cougars last season as a sophomore, recently transferred to Class 4A Larned, but this summer had the opportunity to compete in Australia. The junior-to-be at Larned placed 45th out of 3500 in the Gold Coast Airport 5.7km Challenge, and his team placed second in the All-American 5K. He was part of the Central Conference Cross Country team, one of only two members of the team from the state of Kansas.
Isaiah Maxi Maxi, a senior-to-be wide receiver for the Fort Hays State University football team, put on a camp in early August for area kids with the sole purpose of collecting school supplies for those in need. Expected to be a key receiver for the 2016 Tigers, the Kansas City product conducted the fourday camp at Pratt-Optimist Soccer Complex just outside Larks Park. Maxi, after wrapSLQJ XS KLV ÆQDO VHDVRQ ZLWK the Tigers, plans to graduate with a degree in organizational leadership. After receiving his diploma, graduate school is a possibility.
Trey Teeter Teeter, a Holcomb High School graduate who transferred from Goodland, was a quarterback for the West squad in the 2016 Kansas Shrine Bowl. The son of Holcomb head coach Kent Teeter, the former Goodland and Hays High School coach, Trey threw for 71 yards and a touchdown in a backup role, but the West fell, 48-27, in the annual charity event this year at Emporia State University. Teeter is a Hutchinson Community College football signee.
Lacy Droegemeier & Beth Bowles The two competitors for the Hays Striders competed in the National Junior Olympics in early August in Houston. Each ran in the preliminaries of the 11-year-old 80-meter hurdles, placing 28th (Droegemeier) and 50th (Bowles), while Bowles ÆQLVKHG WK LQ WKH \HDU ROG WXUER MDYHOLQ with a throw of 62 feet, 9 inches.
