Jacob Boston Boston, a second-year Hays Lark, wrapped up a strong summer with an All-American nod in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita. Boston was all over the ÆHOG RQ GHIHQVH DQG FDUried a .474 batting average on offense as the Larks ÆQLVKHG LQ D WLH IRU WKLUG SODFH DIWHU D VHPLÆQDO loss to the Everett (Wash.) Merchants. Boston drove in four runs through the Larks’ tournament and scored three times, connecting on a pair of doubles. Boston averaged .278 for the summer with six doubles and three home runs, tying for the second-most games played on the roster.
Jacob Green A three-time Defensive Player of the Year by The Hays Daily News, Green, from Norton, wrapped his football career with an appearance in the Kansas Shrine Bowl in late July, and made a big impact in the West squad’s 22-21 victory. Like he did as a member of the Bluejays’ team in Norton, Green led the West in tackles with 11, eight of them solo. Also an accomplished wrestler and thrower, Green LV EHJLQQLQJ KLV ÆUVW \HDU DV D VWXGHQW DW WKH University of Kansas.
Justin Juenemann Juenemann, a former standout football kicker at Phillipsburg High School and backup kicker for the University of Minnesota, caught the nation’s eye in a recent team meeting recorded went viral. Juenemann, for WKH ÆUVW WLPH LQ KLV FROOHgiate career, was awarded a scholarship with the Gophers by his head coach, P.J. Fleck, and it was presented by a University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital patient. Juenemann spends some spare time volunteering with the hospital. Juenemann will be a redshirt senior on the team this fall.
Tate Garcia A left-handed pitcher for Thomas More Prep-Marian and the Hays Monarchs, Garcia enjoyed a strong summer with the club, pitching a team-best 55.2 innings. He appeared in 11 games, VWDUWLQJ QLQH +H ÆQLVKHG with a 1.76 earned-run average and struck out 35 EDWWHUV +H DOVR ÆQLVKHG with a .333 batting average in 32 games played. He had a team-best 105 at-bats with 35 hits, four of them doubles.
