BOMBS IN BOSTON The Boston Marathon begins its 117th marathon at 10 a.m. Monday in Hopkin, Massachusetts with 70 Cincinnatians out of 26,839 entrants. Ryan Hopper, a UC academic adviser, completes his race at 12:55 p.m. Alex Ramsey, UC alumnus, completes his race at 1:02 p.m. Laurah Turner, assistant director, completes her race at 1:33 p.m. Sara Stark, emergency medicine professor, completes her race at 1:53 p.m. Andrea Sitlinger, UC student, completes her race at 1:56 p.m.
First explosion goes off near finish line at approximately 3 p.m.
*A total of three people were killed and more than 130 injured in the comBoston Police Department bined explosions report a third explosion on JKF according to Library approximately 4 p.m. BPD. The first count of injury/ deaths reported two dead and 23 wounded, according to BPD at 4:02 p.m. BPD releases its first press conference approximately 4:30 p.m. A fire is reported at JFK Library approximately 5:30 p.m.
President Obama releases a statement at 6:11 p.m. “They are safe, but we don’t know what is going to happen next,” he said. “But make no mistake — we will get to the bottom of this. And we will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.” At 7:15 p.m., The Boston Globe reports an 8-year-old boy dead. BPD evacuates areas and close down parts of Clarendon, Huntington, Newbury, Hereford and Belividere at approximately 7:30 p.m. UC President Ono posts a twitter comment at 7:44 p.m. saying, “My heart goes out to those who were killed or injured at the Boston Marathon and to their loved ones.”
