03 Our third issue already! Thank you so much for supporting Newstyle in setting the standard as the premier online fashion magazine. I think the one thing that really pops through each of the stories is one should never stop reaching for the sky. Do what you love and eventually things will fall in their place. You will get to see some truly creative people and see their extraordinary talent. As for every collaborative project, all the sweat and blood spared by everyone has been to showcase unleashed potential, dreams and ideas. The synergy between each and every one of us was great and I hope this translates as you read on. Lastly, a big thanks to the brands that support us and the talents. Without them, our craft would not have a platform to be seen. Enough with words. Read! Absorb! Enjoy!

A dedicated Fashion Designer eager to start a new chapter in the Fashion Industry. He exploits each and every technique in the accessory creation. Driven by his enthusiasm to be original makes him adopt extravagance in his concepts, as he shown it in his first solo show ‘Indo Greek’ by Kensley Suddoo. A concept that demanded two full months of research, accurate merging and confection. He did all the clothes, jewels, accessories and head pieces for the show stoppers, Katia Moochooram and Samuel Desjardins. He got the support of Cedric Lanappe for make-up and Reine Santoo for hair styling. This cultural exchange show made the 07 April at the Backstage Lounge of Henessy Park Hotel, demarcated him as one of the rarest extravagant young Fashion Designers. Explaining his strong and extravagant desires: “My passion for making extravagant accessories drives me to explore many tribal accessories, get inspired and make mixes between different cultural styles and themes. I have just started selling my accessories online on new website called CREY”. To create, he takes tips from the internet and mix it up with his personal style. Treasuring his culture, he focuses on tribal and Indian ethnic. He will bluntly dislike if his creation is considered as ‘Déjà Vu’. His ambition is to create his own brand offering the most original and extravagant clothes, jewelry and accessories. But before that he wants to sharpen his skills and learn more. He is flying for a full year of ‘fine tuning’ of his talents at the SAD International Institute in India. He promises to amaze the Mauritian Fashion Industry.

No detail escapes her screening. Model, make up, hair styling, clothes, poses, expressions… If it is not perfect to her, the shooting is to be done again and again and again… A Control Freak or a passionate perfectionist? Martine Labour, the 25 years old Freelance Fashion Stylist says it clearly “if it is to be done a hundred times, why not! It should be the way I imagined it. I am often tagged as being a Control Freak but I’m ok with that”. She is a Fashion enthusiast since adolescence. And her critical eye on fashion developed alongside. 2013, she joined La Sentinelle as she wanted to work in the Media Field. She joined the LSL Web TV team. But she didn’t want to carry on. She thus requested to work as Fashion Editor for the local fashion magazine, ‘Essentielle’. She was in her world. Due to her very demanding approaches and methods, Martine made a very rapid ascension, that she enjoyed, “It was such a pleasure discovering and getting to work with some amazing photographers and models. I really enjoyed the team work with make-up artists Cedric Lanappe and Kathy Depaul” she says. Passionate but also ambitious. She wanted to move on. So she did in February 2016. “After leaving Essentielle i decided to channel all of my experience toward a new venture: Freelance Fashion styling, which helped me acquire various fashion editing contracts, styling for retail e-commerce and fashion Direction, local and foreign commercials” she relates. At that time she was pregnant of Capri Angelina, her one year old daughter. Soon after her delivery she took in parallel the post of Production Manager in an International Production company named Identical Pictures. Her demand for quality remained unchanged, “a plus” she says. “Today I am a part-time mother, part-time Freelance Fashion Stylist and full time Production Manager. I could not expect best” concludes Martine Labour.

FITNESS

WORKOUt HARD. Model: Samuel Sagor, Trainer Photography: Saachin Sagar Words: Javed Sobah

A Personal Trainer who does not believe in uniformed diet and training plans. “What works with one does not necessarily give the same result for another one” he says. Here are his ways of living and tips on the key and inevitable ways for a healthy mind in a healthy and nicely sculpted body... He doesn’t believe in drastic methods like crash diet. For Samuel Sagor, a 30 years old Personal Trainer, there isn’t any ‘best diet plan’ that will work on everyone the same way. Each case is thus unique. “Almost everybody like fast-food, very caloric and fatty. But if one can use and burn these fats while training, it will be beneficial. It is like putting fuel in a car and drive it till the tank is empty”.

53

54

A Master’s degree holder from Toulouse University in France in Sport Science, Samuel guides his clients with his SS Methods: Cardio “The slower you run, the slower you lose, the faster you run, the faster you burn. If it didn’t hurt you it didn’t work. My SS workout training system is a high intensity workout with a mix of bodyweight exercise, lifting weights, running and the most important, jumping. Lose belly fast Samuel demands his clients not to count only on walking, light jogging or jumping but to rely on sprinting, even on the treadmill. He explains the best method: “Sprinting 6 times for 1mins each at the speed of 10 to 12 mph on a treadmill, rest 1minute at each interval, then carry on walking on 5-6mph can help you burn calories better and faster. Then move on different types of Jumping: jump rope, box jump, jumping jacks and finish with the hardest, 10 reps of burpees. This jumping part make one burn more calories than 10mins of continuous jogging”.

Bodyweight exercises and weight lifting “Shape and strengthen your body by lifting weights with barbell and dumbbell, isolate exercises on machine to sculpt the inner muscle and Bodyweight exercises like Push-ups, Pull-ups, Sit-ups and Lunges”. Shock the Body “The body needs to be shocked” he reveals. He relates his own life style: “I have junk food for 3 or 5 days and then for 2 days I eat only fruits. On top of that, even if I drink alcohol, I maintain my abs 8 packs. I take my beer can after work every day for two weeks and next two week no beer. I do it also with whisky. To maintain a good shape, the body should be shocked and one should keep on exercising and always go harder. As I always say, You know it is working when you feel the burning » concludes Samuel.

H

e is currently the youngest Mauritian male MakeUp Artist reference. This 19 years old passionate has been showing his limitless make-up styles since the past 4 years and this hard work has been noticed. He was the only Mauritian to form part of the elite Star’s Cosmetics make up team for last Miss Eco International held in Egypt in April. He was the personal MUA of

80

owner and founder of the competition, Dr Amaal Rezk and the retouch MUA of Miss Canada, the winner. He will shortly renew this mission for an upcoming Miss competition in Asia. Hans Dax is a ‘perfection freak’ who works only out of passion. As he beautifully explains: “When excellence

becomes a tradition, perfection has no limits”, he never stops… His efforts and works do not remain unnoticed. His two successful make-up shows, namely ‘Strike a Poz’ and ‘Illumination’ in 2016 helped in getting him nominated among the Best Make-Up Artists in the Mauritius Fashion Week powered by L’Oréal Paris and among the four nominees of the Backstage Awards 2016.

With his show ‘Quintessence’ done last 18th March at the Backstage Lounge of Henessy Park Hotel. He showed that he is ‘One Serious’ competitor in the field.

Make up is his passion but his career dream remains being a successful lawyer. He is actually at his second year of Bachelor of Laws at Aberystwyth University Mauritius Branch Campus. A quite daring choice, “It is indeed very rare and potentially challenging to be doing a career in make-up and in law at the same time. But since I like both, I don’t want to abandon any of them”. After his Egypt experience, he realised that in Make-Up, the limit is even above the skies. “Miss Eco International experience has broaden my visions not only on the world of Fashion and Make-Up but also the communication field, one important thing for me for my future career in the Legal Field”, he concludes. Hans Dax is currently affiliated to Star’s Cosmetics represented by KC’s Fashion in Mauritius. Here is a glimpse of some of his realisations for NEW STYLE for his ‘Quintessence’ show. 84
