tockbrokers have decided to down tools and shut the market for at least 48 hours if the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) did not back down on its decision to jack up their capital base from N70 million to N300 million. According to a source,
the decision was part of resolutions at a recent meeting held by the Association of Stock broking Houses of Nigeria (ASHON). Though the source was
not specific on the date for the commencement of the strike, he said yesterday that the association was considering going on strike in November. He added that the body
was also considering seeking redress from industrial court if the apex market regulator insists on going ahead with the recapitalisation. According to the
source, the market has been dropping to unprecedented level due to recapitalisation fever that has engulfed the bourse as the December 31 deadline CONTINUED ON PAGE 5

of Representatives yesterday met to plot how the party could regain the leadership of the legislature that it lost following Tuesday’s defection of the Speaker,
