ormer Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Mr. James Ngilari, whose purported resignation during the impeachment
of his principal, Alhaji Murtala Nyako, caused a stir, yesterday asked the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, to order that he should be sworn in as the substantive governor of the state on grounds that
he did not resign from office. Ngilari through his counsel, Festus Keyamo, in court processes filed before the court, sought for an order to order the removal of the Acting
Governor, Alhaji Umaru Fintiri, from office and to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting any governorship bye-election in the state. Joined as defendants in
the case are the House of Assembly Speaker, Ahmadu Umaru, the House of Assembly; Fintiri; Nyako and INEC. The plaintiff wants a declaration that by the combined provisions of
section 306 (1), (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution, he did not resign his office by addressing a letter of resignation dated 15th July, 2014 to the speaker, who is the first defendant. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

he Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has claimed its first victim in Nigeria with the death of a nurse in Lagos. The nurse who died on Tuesday and whose identity was not disclosed, according to Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, was one of the medical personnel that treated Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American official of the Economic
Community of West African States (ECOWAS), who fell ill on arrival in Lagos last month. Sawyer, who was rushed to First Foundations Hospital, Lagos, died on July 25, from the disease. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has put the death toll from the outbreak of EVD at 932 while a Saudi, who just returned to his country after a visit to Senegal, one of the infected countries, has died. Chukwu, at a news conference yesterday in Abu-
