Navy: Nigeria loses N433.62bn annually to oil theft Chukwu David Abuja
T
he navy yesterday put Nigeria's loss to oil theft in the Niger Delta at N433.62 billion annually.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, at the 2015 budget defence of the navy before the Senate Committee on Defence (Navy), said the country was losing about 100, 000 barrels of crude oil daily to thieves.
Jibrin, represented by the Chief of Logistics, Rear Admiral Peter Agba, said the source of his information was the recent revelation at the Chatham House, United Kingdom. The naval chief also said despite the fact that
the military submitted N205.4 billion as capital budget for 2015, the Ministry of Finance reduced it to N8 billion, amounting to 90 per cent reduction of its original budget proposal. He said: "The proposed capital projects for 2015
(captured in the initial N205.4 billion), include the ongoing acquisition of two OPVs, acquisition of patrol crafts and helicopters, procurement of arms and development of vital support infrastructure. CONTINUED ON PAGE 7
