igeria’s interest rate has remained high because there are
not enough fiscal buffers to run the economy, the acting governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Sarah Alade, has said. Nigeria’s benchmark
interest rate – the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) – which indirectly influences other interest rates in the country, was fixed at 12 per cent over a year ago.

ixteen governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday shunned the expanded meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) summoned by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential villa, Abuja. The meeting was to discuss issues bordering on the increasing insecurity in the country. he Borno State government, yesterday, insisted
that 99 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok abducted by the Boko Haram ter-
rorists on Tuesday night are still missing. About 129 girls were abducted by the terrorists in
their hostel while preparing for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
