Six suspects in a June 25 Denver mugging counted among their spoils the victim’s brand-new iPhone. After using Ryan Coupens’ credit cards at a nearby Walgreens, the thieves used the phone to post a Snapchat story about their shenanigans to Coupens’ account, where his friends — and police — could clearly see some of their faces.

Questionable Judgments

The Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival, in which water buffalo are pitted against each other, has been a tradition in Hai Phong, Vietnam, since the 18th century.

But on July 1, buffalo trainer Dinh Xuan Huong, 46, met his doom when his own bull turned on him. The buffalo first knocked Dinh to the ground, then flipped him over its head, goring Dinh’s leg with its horn. Dinh later died at the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Hospital. Buffalo fighting was stopped in the country during the Vietnam War, but the fights resumed in 1990.

A China Southern Airlines flight between Shanghai and Guangzhou was delayed for five hours on June 27 after an 80-year-old passenger, identified only as Qiu, was spotted tossing coins into the engine as she boarded “to pray for a safe flight.” Passengers already onboard were asked to deplane while crews searched inside the engine and around the area, ultimately finding nine coins totaling the equivalent of about 25 cents. Local news outlets estimated the cost of the delay and the search at $140,000.

Karen Leclair, 51, of Albion, Pa., was reported missing on June 11 by her commercial fisherman husband, Christopher, 48, after she went over the side of his boat on Lake Erie. Christopher Leclair told police he hadn’t been watching when his wife fell overboard. When her body washed ashore on July 4 in upstate New York, however, she had a gunshot wound in her head, and she was bound by nylon fishing rope and weighted with an anchor. Christopher Leclair was charged with her murder after the gun used to shoot Karen Leclair was found under a bed in their home.

Police in Dearborn, Mich., are hoping a thief’s unusual loot may draw him back to the scene of the crime. Surveillance video at a Walgreens store captured a bald man making off with seven boxes of Rogaine, a hair-growth product, on June 22. “While

this is not the most hair-raising crime, it is suspected he will continue committing this type of crime, as 12 to 14 months of consistent use is needed to see results,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a news release.

In a dramatic chase, Maine State Police pursued a stolen car from Fairfield to Bangor on July 4, finally striking the vehicle and bringing it to a stop. Flower girls at weddings often steal the show, and Georgiana Arlt of Chaska, Minn., was no exception as she walked down the aisle on July 1. The 92-year-old grandmother of the bride, Abby Arlt, told her granddaughter the only other wedding she had been in was her own, when she was 20 years old. Abby had hoped to have her grandfather as the ring bearer, but he passed away last year.

Robert Kanoff, 49, celebrated Independence Day in an unusual way: High on drugs, he was dropped off in his birthday suit at a Tempe, Ariz., Walmart by two people who thought it would be “funny to see him naked,” said police. There he walked around the store wearing only shoes and carrying methamphetamines.

Maricopa County sheriff’s officers caught up with him around 10 p.m. across the street from the store.

Villagers in the eastern Thailand province of Amnat Charoen have called in the Royal Thai Police Force to help rid them of an evil female spirit, “phi pob,” they accuse of killing four cows and sickening four border police officers, reported the BBC in June. In Thai folklore, phi pob can possess people and sow chaos, including a 2016 incident in which neighbors were forced to strip naked at gunpoint by three reportedly possessed individuals.

Adul Chaitprasithkul, the local police chief, noted, “More people believe in phi pob than those who don’t.”

If you visit Dawson City in Canada’s Yukon Territory, you can’t skip one of its famous traditions: sipping on a Sourtoe Cocktail at the Sourdough Saloon. The drink, conceived in 1973, comprises the cocktail of your choice garnished with a pickled amputated human toe. “You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow, but your lips have gotta touch the toe,” says “toe master” Terry Lee. On June 18, one of the saloon’s toes went missing when a patron, who identified himself as “a drunken fool,” took the digit (specifically, a second toe). Although the thief mailed the toe back with an apology, Travel Yukon has launched a campaign for an “insurance toe,” saying, “Our toe was returned, but we can always use backups!”

ENSURING CORRUPT POLS DO TIME FOR THEIR CRIMES If you can’t get the New York state Legislature to act, you go to Congress. That’s where the crusade against corruption in Albany is heading now.

It’s hardly the place known for getting things done. But now that the former two most powerful figures in the state Legislature are both walking free after being found guilty of bribery and extortion, we can’t afford the sit-and-wait game anymore.

Rep. Thomas Suozzi, a Democrat from Long Island, has introduced legislation in Washington, D.C., that would close a loophole that allowed the corruption

convictions of former state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and former state Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos to be overturned.

Silver was found guilty in 2015 of funneling some $500,000 in state grants to a Columbia University doctor who, in return, sent his patients to Silver’s law firm — which then paid Silver for the referrals.

He also voted for state tax breaks for a real estate company, which then steered business to a law firm, from which he also received referral fees. Silver pocketed $4 million in illegal kickbacks.

A few weeks after Silver’s conviction, Skelos was found guilty of using his power to help companies that gave his son a $78,000-a-year job to which he sometimes would not show up. When asked to actually come to work, the young Skelos told his boss, “Talk to me like that again and I’m going to smash your fucking head in.”

Silver was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, while Skelos received five

years. But a federal appeals court threw out Silver’s charges in July, and Skelos’ charges just last week.

Their successful appeals cited a U.S. Supreme Court case last summer involving Bob McDonnell, the former governor of Virginia. McDonnell was convicted in 2014 of receiving more than $175,000 in gifts from the CEO of a Virginia-based company in exchange for governmental “official acts” that would favor the CEO and his business. His conviction was overturned when the courts determined that the actions McDonnell took — mainly arranging meetings on the CEO’s behalf and attending public events for him — did not constitute an “official act.”

What the court effectively did was define an illegal “official act” as an extremely formal action, like awarding a government contract to a friend, essentially narrowing the definition of bribery, creating a loophole that now makes it much harder to convict politicians of public corruption.

Suozzi’s proposed Close Official Acts Loophole (COAL) Act would expand the definition of “official act” under federal law. It would include any decision or action, including approval, disapproval, recommendation, rendering of advice, or investigation of any matter that could come before any public official in the course of their job.

It has received bipartisan support and was co-sponsored by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican from Pennsylvania. It is imperative that members of Congress pass this bill, and it should be a no-brainer

for New York’s congressional delegation, including Rep. John Katko.

If it is not passed, the McDonnell decision will continue to help politicians who abused their office escape from time behind bars — and not just in New York.

The releases of Silver and Skelos have raised the possibility that the McDonnell decision will also help free Bob Menendez, the Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey who is currently on trial for trading his political influence for bribes in the form of luxury hotel stays and flights on a private jet provided by a Florida eye doctor.

If Silver, Skelos and Menendez can get away with it, the current lax rules on corruption may also tempt other lawmakers to engage in corrupt activities, knowing that there may be no consequence for them. Then we’ll be ruled by governments at the state and federal level that are filled with lawmakers who can take millions of dollars in gifts and call it, as Silver’s lawyer once did, “conduct that is part of the everyday functioning of those in elected office.”

Suozzi’s legislation is an opportunity to prevent that from happening. “Those who profit on the public’s trust for personal gain must never be allowed to avoid punishment when we have the power to fix it,” Suozzi said when introducing the COAL Act. Contact your representative in New York’s congressional delegation and urge them to pass Suozzi’s proposition. They have the power. And they can fix it. SNT

FROM TEXAS TEARS TO BRITISH FARCE

M

ost shows can be done once or twice and then just have to go away. (A Christmas Carol, the ultimate exception, can be revived endlessly.) The evergreens don’t necessarily have much in common, nor do t hey play to the same audiences.

What they do share is that they must be live and kicking and cannot be flattened into a movie or TV screen. Even when they are simple like Always . . .

Patsy Cline, running through Oct. 11 as the season finale at Auburn’s Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, or fiendishly complex like Noises Off, running through Oct. 7 as the season opener at the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild.

Playwright Ted Swindley had been working with the Texas Shakespeare Festival in 1988 and was a known Stephen Sondheim specialist when he came across Louise Seger, a local woman who had a cache of letters from country singer Patsy Cline, who had died in a plane crash 25 years earlier. Cline’s records were still playing on country radio stations, but her biography was anything but a legend.

The Seger letters contain no revelations or scandals but instead portray an unpretentious, deeply modest workaday singer who spoke candidly to fans. She signed them, “Always . . . Patsy Cline.” The closing inadvertently signals how enduring Cline’s appeal has remained.

The last time Merry-Go-Round produced Always . . . Patsy Cline was exactly 10 years ago, September 2007. While the current version has higher production values and a different cast, the audience reaction

is identical. Not only is the house packed, but dozens of patrons sing along with many numbers. And despite even more bawdy comedy this time, tears flow copiously down many cheeks, female and male.

Stately Jacqueline Petroccia may have performed Carousel with the New York Philharmonic in PBS’ Live From Lincoln Center, but this is her 10th Patsy Cline and she has also developed a separate one-woman show titled Sometimes Patsy Cline.

Previous singers have sought to mimic Patsy, yet Petroccia evokes the precise sound and tempo that fans remember again and again, with all the favorites: “I Fall to Pieces,” “Crazy,” “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “She’s Got You,” even Cole Porter’s “True Love.”

Blond Sally Mayes as Louise does most of the talking, however, and scores a hit with every zinger.

Director Douglas S. Hall amps up her outrageousness, vamping and flirting with all she’s got. Her teasing of the costumed, six-player orchestra is so infectious that Petroccia’s Patsy cannot resist joining in.

Costume designer Tiffany Howard has a luscious period gown change for every number, meaning that the Merry-Go-Round’s production of Always . . .

Patsy Cline is more glamorous than was the actual Patsy, often shortchanged in her heyday.

What West Side Story is to the musical and Peter Pan is to children’s theater, Michael Frayn’s Noises Off is to farce.

It doesn’t call for a huge budget but absolutely requires an ambitious and disciplined director. And that’s what this Baldwinsville Theatre Guild production gets with Dan Rowlands, the man who once staged Macbeth as The Godfather in tartan.

The action follows the misfortunes of a second-rate British company putting on a clichéd sex comedy called Nothing On, where everything goes wrong. First we see the missed cues and bumping into furniture on the set itself. Next, the set is reversed and we see the action from behind. And then in the madcap third act, all the mishaps from behind spill over into the set.

Guild loyalist Josh Taylor, who also takes a supporting role, designed a set to fit on the stage of the Presbyterian Education Center. Two stories high and made of wood, it’s so solid that the stairs can be climbed with pounding feet and all five doors can be slammed. Yet at intermission, three segments can be unclamped so that the entire façade turns around on casters. The program credits 10 people, more than there are in the cast, for hammering it altogether.

Because Noises Off contains a playwithin-a-play, most actors must take on two roles, sometimes with different accents and usually with contrasting arrays of neuroses and ticks. Nearly all are younger than the roles they inhabit.

Heather Jensen starts things rolling with the cue-ignoring exposition, explaining that the house is empty this weekend because the owners are away in Spain (make that “Spine”), but she morphs into the much-younger Dotty, a backer of the production, with surprising amorous intentions.

Two couples show up unexpectedly, unhappy to find each other. There are the tax exiles, Phillip (Casey Callaghan) and Flavia (Katie Deferio), who will owe money if found out, and the adulterers Roger (Matthew Gordon) and Vicki (Alyssa Otoski). All are called on for comic shticks, as when Callaghan’s Phillip must hop up the stairs with his trousers around his ankles. Otoski, previously known for arty projects like Eurydice, is sexily hilarious as the notquite empty-headed blond Vicki, but Gordon’s self-destructive schizophrenic Roger is hard to top. Justin Polly achieves perfection as the tippling codger Selsdon, who forgets where he is.

New York Times critic Frank Rich, the Butcher of Broadway himself, said Noises Off was the funniest play written in his lifetime. Right on, Frank. SNT

WINE TIME IN THE FINGER LAKES Finger Lakes wine country is a magnet for visitors this time of year. The harvest is under way and the foliage puts on a spectacular show, a colorful contrast to blue skies and lakes and green, rolling hills. You’ll see license plates from all over: It’s the busiest time of year.

Customers have been stopping at Buttonwood Grove Winery, on the west shore of Cayuga Lake, asking to taste the 2016 Riesling. In August, the wine won the prestigious Governor’s Cup, or “best of show,’’ at the New York Wine and Food Classic.

The bad news: The semisweet wine is sold out in the tasting room, according to marketing coordinator Marcia Klue.

The good news: You might still be able to find it in some liquor stores. Emphasis on might.

Buttonwood Grove, owned by David and Melissa Pittard, is a small winery

producing wines in small batches. The Pittards purchased the property from original owner Ken Reimer in 2014, so they are relatively new to the business of growing grapes and making wine.

About 300 cases of the 2016 Riesling were released in May. By August, they had sold about 100 cases. Then came the announcement of the Governor’s Cup win, and bam!: Everyone wanted a bottle of the 2016 Riesling. Tasting room sales were limited to two bottles per person, and now the wine has evaporated.

“Winning the Governor’s Cup is the most exciting thing that can happen to a winery in New York state,’’ Klue says.

“We are still excited beyond belief.’’

But don’t let the absence of Buttonwood’s award-winning Riesling stop you from visiting the winery. Lovers of white wine will find Chardonnay (both oaked and unoaked), Gewürztraminer, Vidal

Blanc and others. Buttonwood’s Blanc de Franc is a limited-edition white Cabernet Franc made from a red grape that is growing in popularity in the Finger Lakes. The skins of the grapes are removed immediately, Klue says, and the result is a white wine that tastes like a red wine.

“It’s a beautiful clear white,’’ she says.

“Not much of a different color than a Chardonnay.’’

Visitors will also find a dry rose, blush wine and several reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, plus a couple red blends.

Interested in a longer stay? Buttonwood has four cabins on site, each named for a wine: Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and Riesling. Cabins are set in the woods and offer views of the vineyards and the lake.

Linens are supplied and the cabins come equipped with microwave, small fridge, gas grill, coffeemaker, satellite TV and more. Each cabin has a fire pit and three of the four cabins are pet-friendly. At press time, some dates remain available in October and November.

KEUKA LAKE: A DIFFERENT KIND OF TASTING ROOM

Do you love Finger Lakes wine, but not the crowded tasting rooms? The 1886 Reserve Tasting Room at Dr. Konstantin Frank’s Vinifera Wine Cellars is designed to appeal to guests with a deeper interest in the grape-growing and winemaking process, and for those who crave a more intimate wine tasting experience, paired with delicious food.

Tastings are held in a former storage room above Chateau Frank, a stone building that dates to 1886 and is the site of sparkling wine production at the Dr. Frank facility on Middle Road, near Hammondsport. The reservations-only sessions are upscale and gourmet, with a short educational program followed by a wine flight and paired tastings prepared by local restaurants.

The 1886 Reserve Tasting Room program for October begins with a tour of the original Dr. Konstantin Frank wine cellar, where guests will learn how oak is used for aging wines and how oak enhances the flavor of wines. Guests will sample wine directly from the barrel and enjoy a seated flight of barrel-fermented red and white wines, paired with small plates.

LIGHT WORK GOES BACK TO COLLAGE In her one-woman exhibition To Sleep with Terra, Sune Woods uses collage and video to examine and reflect on violence, threats to the environment, and media overload. The show, on display at Light Work, presents tinfoil and folded pieces of paper, recombined, torn and altered photos, and a short video detailing life within a war zone. Woods communicates a sense of fragmentation, outright exhaustion, and simply trying to survive.

To initiate a conversation with viewers, the artist utilizes various approaches. For example, she appropriates a page from a book published four decades ago, one listing such dubious achievements as the record for a couple dancing the twist for the longest period of time.

The piece focuses on much more than the banality of such records: It’s considering the information we process on an ongoing basis and its impact on our consciousness. Woods has inserted an image of a finger into the illustration; the finger redirects a viewer’s attention and plays a key role in reinterpreting the page.

On a gallery wall, another work combines tinfoil and many scraps of paper.

This is in no way an effort to promote recycling. Rather, it concentrates on consumption, not just of products but of information distributed through various media. What happens as we process that information on an ongoing basis?

In the video titled A Feeling Like Chaos, three protagonists, all of them black women, wander through a realm dominated by weapons, disasters, a bullet-ridden car and other indicators of violence’s impact. The images shift rapidly from a barren landscape, to conflicts, to two of the women embracing, to guns viewed in isolation, not in someone’s hands. The audio skips from loud noises like a police helicopter in the air to flat, utterly calm voice-overs discussing societal breakdowns. In the midst of it all, the women struggle to survive, providing the only trace of hope in the video.

The exhibit displays other material such as a small image of a deer, and a page extracted from a science text published long

ago that describes locust swarms. Here the point doesn’t seem to be the specific import of either deer or locusts. Rather, it suggests that our relationship with nature exists on several levels, with information just one of them. We have neglected emotional ties and respectful coexistence with other species.

To Sleep with Terra includes various other collages and a work appropriating a photo taken by Marion Post Wolcott, best known for the documentary photography she did during the 1930s and 1940s. For “Mothership,” an imaginative artwork, a flesh-and-blood, male-and-female spaceship, with both human characteristics and those of an ocean creature, hovers above a launch pad.

That work and the rest of the exhibit express an unconventional narrative communicated via a distinctive visual idiom. To Sleep with Terra pulls together disparate pieces and isn’t intended for casual viewing. Rather, it demands that viewers rethink day-to-day events and life in the 21st century.

To Sleep with Terra is paired with a second exhibit showcasing works created by winners of the 2017 Light Work Grants. That includes images created by Joe Librandi-Cowen that depict Auburn Correctional Facility’s presence smack in the middle of his hometown of Auburn.

Stephanie Mercedes documents her efforts to make sure that photos of human rights violations in Argentina during the “Dirty War” are available to sustain a national memory of that period. To symbolize problems with changes in copyright laws, she has placed metal rods that form an “X” over contact sheets. The show also features work by Mary Helena Clark, whose films have been screened at the 2017 Whitney Biennial, at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and various international film festivals.

NO MÁS A supermarket dies on the Near West Side

By Walt Shepperd After almost a century, and three generations, of serving the grocery needs of the neighborhood known as the Near West Side, Nojaim Brothers Supermarket, 307 Gifford St., is closing its doors.

Originally a commercial district along a two-lane West Street provided a border with downtown Syracuse. Now the heavily Hispanic population has settled within Fayette, Geddes and West streets, some would argue the railroad tracks or the creek, with Onondaga Street on the South Side.

Activists in the neighborhood, however, see it as significantly more than just a store closing. Father James Mathews, of St. Lucy’s Church, 432 Gifford St., gathered 31 pages of signatures in support of a plea for help to community leaders. He called the closing devastating, a crippling blow plunging neighborhood residents even deeper into the throes of poverty which already ravage them. For Mathews, it is the death of an institution.

It was a different story even 50 years ago, when the neighborhood seemed to have a mom-and-pop store at every street corner.

Over on Shonnard Street, Ward Bakery created special miniloaves of Tip Top bread to distribute to lucky kids on field trips.

Down on Gifford Street, shoppers wheeled their rickety carts across the wooden floors at Easy Bargain Center. International travelers had their passports created at Hawk Photo on Seymour Street. Paul Seymour, the former basketball great from the Syracuse Nationals, operated a bustling liquor store. Nojaim’s was at the center of this thriving retail mix.

An often behind-the-scenes activist himself, owner Paul Nojaim maintains a positive perspective as the shelves empty and store staff focus on where the jobs are next. Huntington Family Center two blocks down Gifford Street has taken an active role in the job search, and Rite Aid has sent staff to set up a table for conducting interviews.

“It’s up and down, like a funeral,” he says of the process. “One minute reflecting on happy memories, with a sad reflection the next. It’s like a funeral, and it is.”

What has been the grandest moment of the neighborhood so far?

Impossible to say one. If you’re talking to my father in (January) 1966, we didn’t close during the blizzard. The residents of the neighborhood gathered and we opened this place up. The (1998) Labor Day storm, when this place was decimated and out of power for weeks at a time, we set this place up as a Red Cross center, but also every agency in the neighborhood worked out of the store because they didn’t have power and we brought generators in.

The best moments have been like that.

We had a bad fire in the late 1970s and the neighbors heard all the fire trucks, they were everywhere and you could see the flames coming out the top of the place.

All night long you could see people coming in and volunteering. We were open by morning, in some shape or form.

If you go to modern times, last summer was an awful tragedy in this neighborhood with the shooting. They were planning the Westside Initiative in partnership with CNY Works to really activate Skiddy Park and create a play station with mentors all summer long. That folded with a fear of backlash being too dangerous to do it. But the kids who work here did it. They ran the program and were proud of the neighborhood. They ran it again this year.

If you could wave a magic wand, and make the things happen that you see as needed in the neighborhood, what would you make happen?

There’s a saying in this country that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

That’s not true. There has to be a way to foster the will. In this neighborhood, what I have seen, all those things that were ingredients in the healthy neighborhood have diminished.

I’ve never had a kid come work for me who said, “Can you help me get in a gang?”

Never had someone say, “How do I get incarcerated?”

Never heard someone say, “Let’s be a mother of four by three different men by the time I’m 22 and living in public housing.”

So you do ask them what they want to be, and they want to be a lawyer, be a doctor, be a teacher, they want to be all the things that are the typical American dream. But it goes wrong. I believe it goes wrong because there’s nothing to move you through the social ladder and connect you to that.

For us, yes, we do trading and selling to our customers, but there is also something that makes society better. That is what we felt this place was. At the same token we’re operating in an industry that requires volume to pay the bills. The food business is very much tied to high volume and low margin. That equation has broken down for this store. We can no longer pay the bills.

If you don’t have the magic wand, what will the neighborhood be?

I’m not sure. I had great hopes for the programs and partnerships developing.

Lots of great work has been done already.

However, with (former Syracuse University Chancellor) Nancy Cantor gone, they have lost momentum. I’m hoping that can be rebuilt, that momentum.

That is poverty. It’s not just racism. It is concentrated poverty. When I was a kid this was a poor neighborhood, but we had people here who were connected, and they were able to be your friend and introduce you to other opportunities.

There’s another saying: “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” That one is true. What do you do if you’re living in public housing, you’re a single mom and your child wants to be something when you can’t even get him that first job, because you don’t have that networking ability. And God forbid if they want to be a lawyer or doctor, how would you even put them on that path?

It’s an unfair playing field. A magic wand? I would change the playing field by eradicating poverty.

You need, first of all, a mixed neighborhood. We’re diverse. Everybody admits that. But we’re also not diverse because everybody’s poor.

The other thing is you need opportunities in the neighborhood. I always thought that Nojaim’s Supermarket was one place where if they knew Nojaim’s, Nojaim’s could get them to know somebody else.

What happened?

It’s very simple. We looked at ourselves as a grocery store, but not a grocery store.

We believed we could do other things as well. We believed that that should be the whole food industry. That that is how society formed 12,000 years ago, with Fertile Crescent, irrigation, domesticated animals, and the next thing you know you had something to start trading and bartering, and that was society.

As an institution, the store was significant to the Hispanic community. What is the impact of its closing to them?

One-third of the people in the neighborhood are Hispanic, and over 80 percent of that group is from Puerto Rico. There is a reason that this is where that population massed over time.

That goes back to two things. One, we were the first store to carry Hispanic food.

In the 1960s, when we started getting the migration of folks from Puerto Rico and then from Cuba when the Communists took over, they wanted to find their culture and their languages.

My father found Goya Foods, a little company, and he met with the owner and we became the first store outside of metro New York City to carry Goya Foods. The Spanish Action League located here and became a magnet.

What are you going to do?

I have no idea. I have started to contemplate that. What do you do when you’ve never done a resume, you’ve never applied for a job? Right now I’m going to be getting jobs for the people who work here. Then I’m going to figure out how to get this weight of this building and this debt off of my family’s shoulder. SNT

Cool and temperate weather greeted the various Fidos and tabbies that participated during the annual Canine Carnival, held Sept. 30 at Jamesville Beach Park — and that’s just the way CNY Central meteorologist wanted it. As the founder of what has become the largest animal rescue event in the Northeast, Mahar (below, left) noted that the previous carnivals held during the dog days of summer caused the potential pets to become a little overheated. So the 2017 edition took place just as last days of summer wound down, narrowly avoiding the unseasonable heat wave that gripped Central New York.

Proceeds from the carnival benefited the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation.
