Endowments and current use funds

Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s endowment provides a predictable, permanent source of revenue to support clinical excellence, community programs, important capital projects, and leadership positions at the hospital. Current use funds provide immediate support in these areas.

Always and forever

When Ed Chang’s family and friends remember how he touched their lives, they speak of his wonderful constancy. He was always kind, caring, thoughtful, perceptive. And he always had a smile.

Throughout a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, “he was always so positive,” recounts Susan Sylligardos, his wife and architectural partner of three decades.

While Ed passed away in August 2022, he had always kept his eyes on the future—including a wish to have a lasting impact on his caregivers at the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley.

During his many cycles of treatment, “Ed was in awe of everyone,” Susan says. “All the nurses were compassionate and kind. He wanted to let them know what they meant to him.”

Together, Ed and Susan chose to establish The Chang and Sylligardos Family Fund for the MGCC at NewtonWellesley Infusion Center. “We wanted to do whatever we could do to preserve its sense of home and help make it an even more welcoming place,” she adds. Their family’s generosity will forever be an inspiration.
