Cedar Grove Summer Concerts, Recreation Sports Canceled But Fireworks Display is On

By Lindsey Kelleher ome summer activities that that typically happen on an annual basis won’t be occurring this year, but the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Display is set for July 2. Summer activities including the annual Clean Sweep, recreation sports and the Summer Concert and Movie Series have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Township Manager Thomas Tucci. “We understand that these activities are a big part of our Cedar Grove families’ summer plans, but it is imperative to remember that this is the only way we can guarantee that the successes we have had “flattening the curve” remain consistent in our efforts to control the spread of this virus,” said Tucci in a letter to township residents. The letter was issued in May and may be found on the Cedar Grove Township website https://cedargrovenj.

org/2020/05/08/summer-program-event-cancellation-notice/. Canceling some summer activities to prevent the spread of coronavirus is one of many measures being taken to ensure that people continue social distancing. The pandemic, which started in the late winter of 2020, forced restaurants to suspend their dining-in services and shut many local businesses throughout New Jersey that state Gov. Phil Murphy deemed non-essential such as nail salons and retail stores. Businesses that offer medical services including chiropractors, foot and ankle specialists, doctors and psychologists have turned to using virtual services. Murphy recently announced plans to reopen businesses in New Jersey which could include reopening some retail stores with curbside pick-up, reopening libraries and muse-

ums, and offering outdoor dining services at restaurants. The annual Fourth of July fireworks display in Cedar Grove is happening this year but with stricter rules in effect. The fireworks display is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, at dusk. The rain date is scheduled for Friday, July 3, at dusk. The fireworks will be shot off from LRP/Panther Park but individuals will not be permitted on the field. People may watch the fireworks from the Panther Park parking lot, from parking on the street on both sides of Bradford Avenue, the Municipal Building parking lot, and the O’Toole Community Center parking lot but must stay in their cars. More information about the Fourth of July fireworks display may be found on the Cedar Grove Township website: https://cedargrovenj.org/2020/05/27/cedar-grove-fireworks/.
