Wagner ince he was five years old, Jake Kestler has loved the game of baseball. “I love to hang out with my friends in the dugout and on the baseball field each spring,” he explained. “My favorite team are the New York Yankees and my favorite player is Aaron Judge.” Just like his favorite player, Jake enjoys playing right behind first base in right field. But for this young boy, his favorite game had to be put on hold once he was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) at age seven in February of 2012. “Hearing a doc-

tor tell us that Jake had cancer was the shock of my life,” shared Jake’s father, Josh Kestler of Livingston. After receiving this devastating news, Jake’s family and the surrounding community came together for support. It was only after a successful bone marrow

transplant with the help of Lily, Jake’s five year old sister, who was a perfect match, that Jake was pronounced cancer free at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Then, almost five years later, Jake was brought back to MSKCC for a checkup after com-

plaining of headaches. It was then revealed that the source of the headaches was in fact a tumor in his brain. “I was absolutely devastated when Jake was diagnosed with brain cancer,” his father confided. “We really thought that we had beaten cancer and were cont. on page 4
