By Jason Cohen randon Torres has a passion for fixing and building things. Recently, the youngster made a bike with a blender and donated it to a non-profit organization for kids. Torres, 14, an eighth grade student at Heritage Middle School, has put together bikes before, but never anything like this. He is in a technology class at school taught by Kenneth Zushma. However, around the middle of the year he began to feel a bit bored and wasn’t challenged. He told Zushma and he asked Torres what he would like to build. Torres proposed his innovation of a bike with

a blender and Zushma was receptive. Zushma brought in the parts and tools and over the course of seven weeks, Torres built the bike. He noted that although the whole process took seven weeks, the class only met

Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday. “It was difficult and challenging and sometimes I wanted to give up,” he said. “My approach was making it rideable and enjoyable.” According to

Torres, he thought it would take much longer to do. But, once Zushma told him the non-profit Pony Power Therapies was interested in the bike, he knew he had to have it done in time for their Horse Show cont. on page 4
