To be considered a distinguished school, The National Title 1 Association’s criteria outlines that schools demonstrate a variety of strengths including team approaches to teaching and learning, focused professional development opportunities for staff, individualized programs for student success and strong partnerships between the school, parents, and the community. Schools do not apply for this honor, but are instead selected by their state Education Agency and must qualify under one of the following conditions: Category 1-Exceptional student performance for two or

Sussex Avenue School is proving, while they may have to endure many challenges, they can soar above them. The National Title Association is dedicated to building the capacity of educational professionals to provide disadvantaged children with a high quality education. The achievement gains from this program are especially powerful for the students. In the case of Sussex Avenue School, they inspire confidence, self esteem, and a feeling that they can accomplish anything. In addition to this honor, the students of Sussex Avenue School will receive the opportunity to attend the three day 2018 National Title 1 Conference in Philadelphia that is approaching Feb. 8-11. The conference highlights the work of individuals, schools, districts and organizations that have successfully overcame the continued on page 6
