Women In Business Volunteer At Community Soup Kitchen

By Stefanie Sears he Women in Business Committee recently took part in a new outreach project to volunteer at the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center. The volunteer group is an organization within the Morris County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) that meets the second Wednesday of every month. “As longtime residents of Morris County, we were looking to give back to an organization that supports the underprivileged and needy in our committee,” says Chairperson Debbie

Wolpov. “Our members have an altruistic focus and felt that the least we could do was volunteer and try to make a small difference. Nancy Rudgers is an active member of our chamber. She supports the development at the kitchen. We wanted to support Nancy and her mission.” On May 5, the 40 volunteers worked for two shifts. The first shift involved unloading a truckload of paper product donations and preparing for food and service. The second consisted of serving meals and sorting and stacking donations.

After serving and cleaning up the food, we unloaded donations of fresh produce and meats from the Farmers Market,” says Wolpov, “These donations are used to allow the underprivileged to do their food shopping. It was humbling to see people strategically choose how they could get the maximum benefit. I remember one individual who would only take food that could be cooked in a microwave because he didn’t have a stove or oven. There was also a mother who holding an infant and looked for food more appropriate

That was a very emotional and moving experience for so many of us.” Leading volunteer ventures with the Women in Business has helped Wolpov form relationships with others, which in turn is beneficial for her career as a National Sales Executive for Premier Payments, a large, national credit card processing company providing services to clients in all business sectors including retail, restaurants, non-profits, ecommerce, business to business and mobile payments. “Our mission is ‘Sup-

We are all truly invested in each other’s success and look to personally and professionally support each other in our network.” Members of the Chamber of Commerce initiated the Women in Business program in January 2005.
