Mt. Olive Will Be ‘Beachy’ Keen Jellybean With More Options To Cool Off This Summer

By Cheryl Conway hen it comes to keeping cool, local residents will have more options without traveling to the beach, out-of-town community pool or water park.

After being closed for three seasons in a row, 2015, 2016 and 2017, Budd Lake Beach will reopen this summer to swimmers. For those who like to run and splash, Pirate’s Cove at Turkey Brook Park will entertain little ones for hours.

The options will not end there.

Township officials are considering the idea for a town pool in the future.

“We continue to look for and pursue opportunities to actually have a town pool,” says Mt. Olive Twp. Mayor Rob Greenbaum. “If the right opportunity arises, we will move forward with both sum-

In 2015, township officials decided to close Budd Lake Beach for swimming. Fewer residents were using the beach, while expenditures to maintain and pay lifeguards continued.

“In 2015 we changed the designation of the site to Budd Lake Park, and it was not operated as Public Recreation Bathing Facility,” says Jill Daggon, Mt. Olive recreation supervisor. “The public could access the beach to picnic, play in the sand and fish from the new fishing pier. Stand Up Paddleboard workshops were held, and the Sailing course provided by Morris Sail-

ing. People can still canoe or kayak from the area.”

After some feedback, officials learned that a good majority wanted the beach to be reopened for swimming.

“Comments were made about missing the beach activities, and having daily staff to keep the facility cleaned up from geese and aquatic vegetation along the water line,” says Daggon.

The Mt. Olive Twp. Council, along with the mayor, approved the beach reopening several weeks ago.

Tinc Rd. Students Meet The Star From Cat In The Hat At Purrfect Time

By Cheryl Conway tudents at Tinc Road Elementary School got to see first hand how fun reading can be last month when one of their favorite characters visited their school.

The cat from the “Cat In The Hat” visited 200 students in grades kindergarten through second on Tuesday, Feb. 13, during a special afternoon assembly in the school’s cafeteria. Second grade teacher Laura Iacampo entered her school’s name in a New Jersey Education Association drawing in the fall of 2017.

To her surprise, Iacampo was notified in January that her name was randomly picked out of the hat!

“It was really a surprise,” says Iacampo, a teacher in the Mt. Olive School district for 18 years with the past five years at Tinc. While many schools were chosen, Iacampo says

she thought Tinc was the only school in MO selected for a special visit.

An annual offering by the NJEA, this was the first year Tinc was ever selected, she says proudly.

Joe Jannicelli, a retired NJEA teacher, visited Tinc last month dressed as the cat from “Cat In The Hat.” “He came and made his big entrance,” says Iacampo. “It was the perfect time,” as the school had just participating in its Reading Olympic Challenge with its opening ceremonies held on Feb. 9.

“Then he came on the 13th,” says Iacampo. “It promoted “how much fun reading can be. It was just luck that he came that week.”

The cat then participated in the school’s Reader’s Theater of Cat In The Hat, which involved readers from different grades taking on characters

and reading parts from the book.

“The cat can’t speak so he acted out his part,” says Iacampo. “The cat was fabulous. He was giving high fives; he was the perfect cat. He was amazing. It was great.”

The cat then left a signed copy of the Dr. Seuss book to

be placed in the school’s library.

“Having that fun loveable character shows they can have fun when they are reading,” says Iacampo. “They all know the story; to make it come to life was all very exciting for them.” continued on page 6

Rotary Gifts Dictionaries To Mt. Olive Third Graders To Promote Reading

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, 90 books were delivered to the students at Mountain View Elementary; 95 were distributed to those at Tinc Elementary on Feb. 27. After all drop offs have been scheduled, the nearby club hopes to have provided 360 third graders with new dictionaries at each of the four elementary schools in the Mt. Olive School District.

ew Jersey parents suffering with finding ways to pay for their children’s college education can finally get the solutions to their college funding problems.

Most families who earn $75,000 or more and own a home assume they are not eligible for financial aid. However, most families with income over $100,000 are actually eligible for some types of “need based” financial aid. They simply need to know how to get their fair share.

Mt. Olive used to have its own rotary club, says Schumacher, but dissolved June 30, 2017. Existing members “worked hard for three years to keep it going,” he says. “We used to do a lot with that club.”

“Six or seven years ago one moved away,” he says. “Then another member moved to Pa.; then two more retired down south; then you have three or four more people to hold on.

People are busy.”

Schumacher has been involved with the Rotary Club of Netcong Stanhope for the past 19 years. As senior vice president of Fulton Bank with branches in Netcong, Hackettstown and Roxbury, his involvement with the local rotary works for him.

In existence for 71 years, currently 17 members are active. Lunch meetings are held the first and third Thurdsay

at the Black Forrest Inn, Stanhope; and then the second and fourth Thursdays at Bell’s Mansion, Stanhope.

“We’re trying to get an interest in Mt. Olive,” says Schumacher, to expand and grow. “A lot of people are having a hard time to get active members.”

Many parents coach their kids or are involved in other activities which have ultimately reduced time for volunteerism, he says.

“We are looking for get some support from Mt. Olive,” he says. “We’re trying. This is the first step.”

Besides dictionaries, the local rotary has assisted the Netcong Education Foundation; provided LED lights to Stanhope schools; purchased extraction rescue boards for first responders and fast boards for Netcong Fire Dept.; and through grants from Rotary International funded training to technical students to install

solar panels to poorest villages.

“Our little club has done a lot,” he says.

The club raises funds through its Annual Golf Outing, to be held Thursday, July 12, at Bowling Green Golf Club in Milton.

Although there is no longer a club in Mt. Olive, the Rotary Club of Netcong Stanhope is

considering expanding its local service area and invites anyone interested in joining Rotary to contact the club via Facebook or a phone call directly to Schumacher at 908-684-1129.

In a cross walk, a group of people follow a cross as it is carried from location to location. At each stop, a part of the crucifixion story is read. 2018 budget, the needs of the community and the continued use of the beach by the community even after the beach was closed, I made the decision to reopen the beach for the summer of 2018,” says Greenbaum.

“In addition, in listening to the ad hoc committee on Route 46 improvements and their desire for a park like setting rather than commercial development of the lake area, reopening the beach made sense in terms of where we are likely going with further development of that area.”

Reopening the beach “will provide an opportunity for summer activities, swimming, boating, swim lessons, beach entertainment,” says Greenbaum.

Mt. Olive Twp. Council President Joe Niacstro agrees, “I think it was just time again to do so, people were still swimming in the lake even when it was not open. The rec department can offer some great programs for the residence to enjoy during the summer.”

In order to reopen the beach, the council recently approved the spending of $80,000 in capital improvements at its

budget meeting a few weeks ago to repurchase new equipment, safety lines, sand, costs to fix up the beach area and lot, funds to hire lifeguards, as well as a restroom trailer and new shade structure, says Mt. Olive Twp. Business Administrator Andrew Tatarenko.

A lot of the beach equipment was sold, he says, when the beach closed.

Monies to reopen the beach will not increase taxes, officials say.

There will be a “zero percent tax increase,” says Tatarenko. “We don’t need to increase taxes to do it.” These are “capital items that we bond for, part of the capital improvement plan.”

Greenbaum explains, “It comes down to a governmental prioritizing of all activities and services which the administration and governing body have to weigh in any given year as compared to our budgetary restraints. Although there will be a small fee for beach usage to help defray the cost of running the programs, Mt. Olive through conservative fiscal management is

able to provide the service of the beach activities while for the seventh year in a row not having a municipal tax increase.”

Nicastro adds, “The beach, as it was before, will offer badges for people to purchase that will help offset the costs as well as any events the rec department offers, along with the sponsorships they get from local businesses, all will help in the funding.”

Providing options to residents is the way to go.

Having a beach for swimming and splash pad for splashing “attracts two different types of recreation activities,” says Tatarenko. The beach is for more passive users; splash pad is for more active recreation.

“It is one of our natural resources and what Budd Lake is all about,” says Nicastro. “So opening the lake to the residents to enjoy again is a good thing for all and will benefit anyone who wants to come out and lay out, swim or just tan on the beach.”

There is a daily admission fee of $5 per person over the age of 1 or beach tags can be purchased at the Recreation

“Staff will be able to plan some special events,” says Daggon.

“We will be purchasing all new equipment for 2018,” says Daggon. “We sold the 30+ year old equipment in 2015.

“We are working on purchasing a new restroom trailer that can be hooked up to the sewer connection that is located on site,” she continues. “This trailer will have four private toilet facilities and one ADA restroom. This is a very nice trailer with a large water holding tank (for flushing and hand washing), lights, etc. When the beach season is done, it can be relocated to our outdoor events for fall & spring. placed and we are looking at some shade options.“ Daggon expects to see a 20 percent increase in attendance, with beach memberships and daily admission available for everyone.

“In 2014, we issued 168 beach tags and had 1,185 daily admissions,” she says.

“Weather does play an important role in family participation,” says Daggon. “If the day is forecast to rainy all day – we will open for swim lessons, if it is not a thunderstorm. Days where the day time high is not expected to reach 65 degrees, we also do not open.”

Daggon is excited for the reopening of the beach.

“My family growing up really enjoyed Budd Lake Beach – we went to the beach every day!” says Daggon. “Playing in sand is much more fun than sitting on a pool deck! Studies have shown that children who learn to swim in open water, not a pool, are confident swimmers anywhere. Some children, who get used to seeing their hands and feet when they swim, seem to panic when they are in natural waters and can’t see their extremities while swimming. Aquatics is a great healthy, life-long activity, and having an affordable location,

close to home makes it that much easier to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to a fun, safe exciting beach season!” concludes Daggon.

Girls Scouts Journey Carries Members To Collect Handbags For Homeless And Identify Their Strength

By Cheryl Conway n a recent journey to discover their abilities, seven local junior Girl Scouts learned their actions do matter and can empower themselves as well as others.

Members of Junior Troop 6769 of Mt. Olive Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey received their Journey Badge at a ceremony held Monday night, March 5. In order to receive the badge the girls had to embark in a project to use their abilities to learn how they can change the world.

“This is their first step” in order to earn a bronze award, explains Troop Leader Jennifer Pavkov of the Hackettstown section of Mt. Olive.

As part of their task, the girls had to pick a charity. They decided to collect handbags filled

with personal care items for Helping Hearts & Handbags, a local non-profit dedicated to the mission of collecting gently-used purses, filling them with personal care items, and distributing them to homeless women living on streets or in shelters.

In just two months, the girls ended up collecting 131 purses and more than 50 pounds of personal care items, much more than what they ever imagined, says Pavkov.

“I am so proud,” says Pavkov, troop leader for the past two years. “I said ‘Wow, they are really capable.’”

Pavkov’s 9-year old daughter, Maggie Pavkov, a fourth grader at Sandshore, is one of the girls in her troop. Brownies last year, this is their first year as juniors.

As juniors they were required to work on their Journey Badge with the theme, “Agent of Change: It’s Your World, Change It.” Girls learn how their world changes, identify their own abilities. “What are your secret agent skills?” explains Pavkov, listening, kindness, compassion, serving?

They began working on their Journey in September 2017. To do this, the girls made a Super Hero Page followed by a comic book, completed in December, to discover their skills. They then “bring those skills together and come together and pick

one charity,” explains Pavkov.

At the end of December, they decided on their charity, Helping Hearts & Handbags, and started collecting the first week of January.

“We talked about food banks and shelters,” says Pavkov about the girls’ decision on which charity. As neighbor of the founder of Helping Hearts & Handbags, Lisa Wagner, Pavkov knew about the charity to help homeless women.

says Pavkov. “It was about empowering women. It was focused on women. It’s about being normal; being able to carry your stuff in a handbag. It was women based and it is the girl scouts.”

To get their collection going, the girls used their skills to put it all together.

“They learn how to work together to change the world,” says Pavkov.

“One girl likes to talk so reached out to the mayor; one likes arts so she made bins,” she says. “Maggie likes to entertain so had conversation with church, Grace on the Mount.” She did a presentation to Sunday school classes there and requested to put a bin in

the church hallway.

“One of the girls arranged for me to go on the radio last week,” says Pavkov, to speak about their collection. “It was terrifying,” Pavkov laughs, when she agreed to speak live on WRNJ Radio in Hackettstown. “The girls were just so proud. I would’ve thought small; these girls thought so big!”

Pavkov came to realize, “For 9 year olds they’ve really knocked this out of the park.

They are really fearless. Girls all came up with their own ideas, some rejected, some said ‘yes.’ It was a leadership journey. One reached out to Target. We came from this comic book strip and came to this in months. That was December

The bins were placed inside two local churches, Enzo’s Pizzeria in Budd Lake, the Mt. Olive Municipal Building, one of the dad’s work and collection by three of the moms.

Collection was slow at first, but that all changed “We put a collection box in the church; next week there was nothing,” describes Pavkov.

“She [Maggie] was a little disappointed. The next week, it was filled; it was overflowing.

Came home and counted the items. She said ‘Mom it’s like Christmas!’ She was so excited.”

Pavkov’s basement began to fill up with more than 50 bags and seven bins of personal care items.

With their collection ending

March 4, the troop had its first packing party at their Journey’s Badge Ceremony at Sandshore Elementary School on March 5.

They sorted through the personal care items, dividing them into Ziploc bags to be inserted inside the collected handbags.

Their collection was presented to Wagner and her foundation at the badge ceremony.

“The girls are doing an amazing job and we’re so excited to attend their Journey Badge Ceremony,” Wagner had said prior to the event. “The girls have done all of the planning, gathering… making boxes for donations, just an unbelievable amount of work and I’m so proud of them. Girl power is alive and well!”

Indeed, Goldberg and his staff do live up to their mantra. A quick Google search of independent patient reviews will prove that fact. Onto The Next Bridge, DOT Plans Repair Of 206 Bridge With Detour This July

By Cheryl Conway ravelers of Route 206 will need to plan some extra travel time this summer when a lengthy portion will be closed during a bridge repair.

Located at the border of Mt. Olive and Chester, Drakes Brook Bridge on Route 206 near the nail salon, Nails & Spa, is scheduled to be closed for repair tentatively set for Friday, July 6. The project has been mandated by the New Jersey State Department of Transportation.

The NJDOT has provided a 30 day window to complete this project, requiring the contractor to finish by Aug. 6, says Andrew Tatarenko, business administrator for Mr. Olive Twp. Officials expect the project to take at least nine days for a full repair, he says.

Needed is the replacement of the entire bridge super structure, explains Tatarenko.

While the bridge is “still passable,” since Super Storm Sandy the bridge took on some damages that are in need of repair.

NJDOT contacted Mt. Olive Twp. to inform the council that a deficient structural and hydraulic culvert under Route 206 requires replacement, as stated in the resolution to support the project.

“NJDOT recommends the project as a positive improvement which should help mitigate local flooding in the immediate area while providing safe passage along Route 206 for many years to come,” the resolution states.

“Components will be prefabricated and then assembled on site,” he says. “It’s called accelerated bridge construction.”

The work will be performed 24/7, meaning that portion of the road will be closed to all who travel there except to local traffic.

Contractors are expected to mobilize that portion of Route 206 at 8 p.m., July 6, for nine days pending any weather conditions, says Tatarenko. The entire expense of the bridge repair will be covered by federal and state funds with the township not bearing any of the cost, he adds.

“Our biggest concern is the nine day closure,” says Tatarenko, “and detour around the bridge which will have traffic implications.”

Two separate detour plans will be set up for cars and for tractor trailers, he says.

Both will begin at Route 206 and Bartley-Flanders Rd., continue to Four Bridges Rd. and end where Four Bridges Rd. and Route 206 intersect by the Quick Check.

The Mt. Olive Twp. Council and members of the Mt. Olive Police Department met with DOT staff a few weeks ago to go over specific plans regarding the detour and discuss comments and recommendations.

Tatarenko says the biggest concern is the intersection of River Road and Bartley-Flanders Rd., near the bottom of Tinc Rd. Traffic tends to be heavy there and oftentimes difficult to gage without a traffic signal. To deal with anticipated traffic there, a portable traffic signal will be temporarily installed at that location, he says.

The local police department will be putting up signs around town to alert local traffic of the detour, especially those who live in the Clover Hill Development to alert them of the road closure on Route

206.

“DOT will issue a press release as we get closer,” Tatarenko adds, and business and homeowners will be notified as well.

“We’re hoping it’s a smooth and safe project,” says Tatarenko. “We do have a carnival around the same time.” Officials scheduled the repair that week in July because that is a slower time of year for traffic on Route 206, he says, and it does not interfere with the school year.

Another bridge in town, the bridge at Flanders-Drakestown Road was recently opened after being closed for about four months, confirms Tatarenko. This repair was a county project to restore a historical bridge that was deteriorating and too narrow to accommodate two-way traffic.

This repair included a complete bridge replacement, which did take longer than anticipated, he says. Delays were a result of poor weather conditions.

The new bridge is up and includes all of the original stonework of the historical bridge, he says, including capstones with historical scription. “Some stones had scriptions of local residents of hundreds of years ago,” says Tatarenko.

Blood Screenings To Be Offered In Mt Olive

he Mt. Olive Health Department is hosting a blood screening event on Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

A blood screening test will be offered for $25, or $12 for senior citizens over the age of 60. The test is a broad screening tool to test various chemical concentrations in the blood, including glucose, sodium, potassium, calcium, total protein, iron, cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

ditions like diabetes and electrolyte imbalances. The blood test requires fasting. Additional testing options are: Lyme antibody screen, $26; C-reactive protein and homocysteine, $38; hemoblobin A1-C to monitor glucose control, $23 and prostate specific antigen, $26. Participants should bring two stamped envelopes, one addressed to their physician and one to themselves.

Mt. Olive Township Declares Municipality Stigma-Free Zone

M

t. Olive Township last month made the first steps towards eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness.

One in four adults experiences a diagnosable mental illness every year and many of these individuals do not seek help because of fear of shame or judgment from friends, family and coworkers. The elimination of mental health stigma will allow residents to get the resources they need without judgment.

Mt. Olive Township representatives passed a resolution designating the municipality

a Stigma-Free Zone in order to create an environment in which residents will feel free to seek treatment for the disease of mental illness without the fear of being stigmatized.

Representatives hope to raise awareness of the disease of mental illness, provide an effective way to reduce the stigma associated with the disease and encourage those who are affected to seek services and feel supported.

Atlantic Ambulance Presents Child Safety Seat Inspection Events

By Kerry Breen n February 22, Atlantic Ambulance paired with Safe Kids Worldwide for a free, publicly-available car seat inspection. The program, known as Buckle Up, focuses on safety in and around cars.

According to Sarah Daplyn, an Atlantic Training Center coordinator, these events are held several times throughout the year in various locations. The event included certified child passenger safety technicians on-site, who were able to help parents properly install their children’s car seats.

“We typically hold our inspection events once every other month at the Atlantic Ambulance Air One helicopter base located at 65 Love Lane in Netcong, NJ,” said Daplyn. “Safe Kids holds these types of events all the time in various locations throughout the state.”

According to a flyer advertising the event, three out of four car seats are not used correctly. According to the Safe Kids Worldwide website, one million children around the world die of unintentional injuries each year, and millions more are injured; car safety is the greatest cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children

both nationally and globally.

“Our sponsored programs and initiatives combine education, awareness, environmental changes, and safety device distribution to get communities more involved in child safety and keep families and children safer,” as state on the site.

“We work together with communities in the United States and partners around the world to implement programs that will address the leading causes of injury and injury-related death.”

According to the website, similar child car seat events are held throughout the country, not just within the state of New Jersey. Most of the events are open to the public, and can be found in locations such as General Motors dealerships, hospitals, community centers and shopping centers.

The Safe Kids company also has more than 125 Mobile Car Seat Checkup Vans operating across the United States. These vans are designed to turn “any parking lot into a full-service child restraint safety event site,” and almost every state has at least one van operating.

stations are operated, with regular times and dates available for interested parents and caregivers.

Since the Buckle Up program was established in 1997 during a partnership with General Motors Foundation, the program has grown to include four main components.

The components included child passenger safety, which addresses car seats, booster seats and seat belts; heatstroke awareness and prevention with a campaign called Never Leave Your Child Alone in a Car; public education on driveway and parking lot injuries known as “frontovers” and “backovers,” which includes another program called Spot the Tot; and “Getting Ready to Drive,” which covers passenger education for preteens and teens before they drive and includes a program called Countdown2Drive, which teaches preteen and young teens about safe driving before they get behind the wheel.

The program also works as public policy advocates helping states strengthen their laws regarding child safety in vehicles and drunk driving.

Local Soccer Coach Raises Funds To Equip Colombian Youth With Soccer Gear And Skills For Better Life

By Cheryl Conway s a soccer player since he was four and coach for the past decade, 26year old Sebastian Castillo-Giraldo’s current goal is to pay it forward and help youth from his native country.

Castillo-Giraldo of Wharton has started a Go Fund Me page to purchase training equipment and provide soccer clinics to hundreds of inner city children of Colombia. The children he aims to reach live in the city of Medellin as well as Supia, Caldas, the town he was born.

He plans to travel in May for ten days, May 13-May 23, with three of his soccer students and a friend, Marc Reynolds of Succasunna, a photographer/filmmaker who will be documenting the trip.

“It’s time I pay it forward to those who are less fortunate and give approximately 300 kids an opportunity to use soccer as a vehicle to improve their lives,” Castillo-Giraldo states on his Go Fund Me site.

Castillo-Giraldo grew up in Colombia, during the time of civil war, which had ended in 2016 when the peace treaty was signed, he explains. While conditions were rough, Castillo-Giraldo says “soccer was big in my town.”

He started playing at the age of four; continued to play when he came to U.S. with his parents in 1998, in the fourth grade; playing at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway and college, at both County College of Morris in Randolph and the Centenary University in Hackettstown, before becoming a soccer coach 10 years ago.

Castillo-Giraldo has been a soccer coach in Mt. Olive, in its camps and premier soccer program; ran the select soccer camps at Morris Hills now called Morris County Summer Select; and has been the first assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at CCM since 2017.

Through soccer, “you learn discipline, hard work, determination and team

work,” says Castillo-Giraldo, teaching assistant and graduate research assistant at Monmouth University. “Those kids need it,” he says about the children in Colombia, “to help them move up in the ladder of life.

“Colombia is a third world country; soccer is a tool to avoid falling into drug use and alcoholism,” he continues on the Go Fund Me page. “It’s a beacon of hope as well as a stimulator to dream big and achieve success in life.

As a world history graduate student at Monmouth University, Castillo-Giraldo is currently writing his master’s thesis on “How Soccer Explains the World.”

It was in the first week of December 2017 when Castillo-Giraldo started his Go Fund Me page to help youth in Colombia.

A family friend who works for the government in Colombia has identified and connected Castillo-Giraldo with youth teams most in need.

Mt. Olive Soccer Club “donated a plethora of new gear,” says Castillo-Giraldo. About 90 percent of its donations are

brand new and include uniforms, soccer socks, shorts, sweats, sweaters and jerseys.

Kinnelon High School donated some gear as well.

Most needed now is the financial support, he says, as his goal is to purchase 200 brand new Adidas balls that cost $3,000.

“I can’t have soccer clinics unless I have balls for the kids,” he says. “Balls are really expensive.” The ones he plans to provide are expected to last three to five years and are “ideal for their practices and their games,” he says.

Funds will also cover costs for cones and ladders as well as shipping boxes of equipment; soccer clinics for kids with proper training skills; followed my minitalks to discuss “the power of soccer.”

His plan is to help 20 youth teams with proper equipment and gear. He estimates that the boys and girls will be between the ages of 8 and 15.

While cycling is popular in Colombia too, Castillo-Giraldo says the “predominant sport in Colombia is soccer.

It’s a passion you learn to love and you hold dear to you. The whole country plays and the whole country watches them, the Colombia National Team, national pride. Even with all the unrest, when our country was being torn to pieces,” he explains how soccer provides a sense of pride “that brings the whole country together.”

He now wants to share his love for soccer.

“When I was a little kid playing in Colombia, I had great coaches that didn’t know me,” he says. “I think it’s only right to share my knowledge of soccer with those kids so they can move forward. Everyone in my

family has played soccer, like it’s in my blood, in my DNA. “Race doesn’t matter, class doesn’t matter, religion doesn’t matter. It’s just the talents and skills each person brings to the table what truly matters.”

Reynolds, who met Castillo-Giraldo about seven years ago when he became his eldest son’s soccer coach of Villa at NJ Dynamo, couldn’t agree more and looks forward to the trip.

“I love the game of soccer; I have three sons who play,” says Reynolds. “I believe soccer should be accessible to everyone regardless of income or anything else. I know the happiness it brings and I feel everyone deserves that.”

With plans to video their trip, Reynolds says “it’s about me telling a story. This to me is

a story worth telling. It’s about soccer, but it’s more about humanity and giving back. I hope to capture the happiness we bring to the kids that we meet.

I also want to capture Sebastian’s big/generous heart.”

Donations are still being collected through May 1.
