R
By Lori Ramas oxbury resident Nicole Licciardi was recently honored by the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey as a Woman of Achievement. Licciardi is the Chief of Staff and a member of the Mars, Inc. Digital Leadership Team. She is a graduate of Seton Hall University, from which she holds degrees in Information Technology Management and Graphic Design. She is active with the school’s mentorship program and a volunteer with the non-profit Girls Who Code organization. She and her husband are now expecting their first child. “The stars have aligned,” said Licciardi about being honored with the Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award while being pregnant. Licciardi and husband Christian are both very active in the Roxbury community and love to give back. When she graduated from Seton Hall University, Licciardi said “I was only one of two girls to graduate with an IT major from college.” Recognizing how few women are involved in STEM sparked her passion to become an advocate for other young women and girls to get interested in technology. Licciardi shared, “I believe women bring a diverse perspective and I want to shine a light on the power of women in technology.”
Licciardi became involved with Girls Who Code as part of her commitment and passion to inspire more women to join and succeed in STEM where she met many young women and high school-aged girls. Her philanthropic work was what sparked the Girl Scouts to approach her about being one of just three women to receive the Women of Achievement Award. The other honorees, like Licciardi, are role models who invest in girls through a myriad of impressive contributions such as Girl Scout troop leadership, advocacy for women in the workplace, celebrating female empowerment, and teaching girls coding skills. Licciardi will continue to partner with the Girls Scouts of Northern New Jersey beyond the June 6th event, helping to put in place a mentoring program with the Women of Digital Mars. Young Girl Scouts interested in technology will have the opportunity to work with global digital leaders at Mars to learn more about capabilities such as user-centricity, data and analytics, artificial intelligence, and more. She’s also looking forward to returning next year as a 2021 honoree and proud supporter of The Girl Scouts.
