New Principals Welcomed In Wayne School District
T
By Jason Cohen wo people who have worked in the Wayne School District for several years will begin the school year as new principals. On June 21, the Wayne Board of Education approved the hiring of two new principals. Jeff Wojcik was appointed principal of Randall Carter Elementary School and Suzana Adamo named principal of A.P. Terhune Elementary School. They began their new positions July 1. Wojcik has served as an assistant principal in Wayne for the last five years and realized it was time to make the next step up the ladder. “I wanted to be able to impact more students on a daily basis,” Wojcik said. “Every year I have worked in education the year starts with the butterflies in my stomach as that anxious excitement builds up waiting

to greet the students. I am honored and humbled that the community has afforded me the opportunity to work as their school leader.” Wojcik, who is entering his sixth year in the Wayne district, has lived in New Jersey his entire life and has spent 14 years as an educator. When he was young, he had dreams of being a doctor and saving the world from diseases. However, in college he didn’t enjoy the lack of personal connection that came from research. At the time he was doing a lot of tutoring and decided he wanted to instead share his passion for learning with others. Wojcik is a graduate of the University of Scranton. Prior to working in Wayne, Wojcik taught at Bergen County Academies and Passaic Valley High School. During that time, he worked as a math team coach traveling the country with students in grades three through 12. While working in an administrative role is quite different than teaching, he will always miss the classroom and the interaction with students. “They(students) are amazing and the
joy of success on their faces is like nothing else,” he said. “Teaching is such an amazing job because you are always with students. For me the goal is to be with the kids all the time in my new role as well. They are the reason that we all do this.” During his time in Wayne, he worked as an assistant principal at Wayne Hills High School and as a shared assistant principal between the middle schools. He supervised several subjects including, math, science, fine and performing arts and transitional special education. Wojcik has worked on several program implementations in the district, including the enVision Math and Exploring Science series. Looking ahead to the school year, Wojcik knows he must be accessible to all students and parents, and that there are many challenges ahead for him. “I believe that the toughest challenges stem from the unknown,” Wojcik explained. “We are always trying to plan for the unseen however some days don’t go as expected and my job is to help balance for everyone the crazy and that can be difficult continued on page 4
