ed from the Pequannock Township High School. He has been employed as a police officer for nearly 32 years and has been its chief for approximately 14 years. And with those years come deep respect for him as an individual and officer. Per Lieutenant of Police, Dan Comune, “Chief Spring has always been dedicated to the police department and all members who have served with and under him. He is extremely well respected and liked by his officers of the department.” Spring is currently battling a rare blood disease known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). An explanation of the disease, courtesy of www.mayoclinic.org: “In a healthy person, bone marrow makes new, immature blood cells that mature over time. Myelodysplastic syndromes occur when something disrupts this process so that the blood cells don’t mature.” Spring underwent a blood marrow transplant with his sister being the donor. “It has not been easy and, from what I understand, the recovery has been painful at times,” adds Comune. “He is an avid weight lifter and is very into being health conscious, so this has been difficult for him from a health perspective. Although the treatments have been difficult, I believe the hardest part for him is that he is unable to do those things he loves; working out, being at the police department, and

coaching girls’ softball.” Spring, who is married to his wife, Stacey, and has one college aged daughter, Melissa, has been supported by many fundraisers, says Comune. “Fund raisers have come in the way of a PBA (Police Benevolent Association) pancake breakfast several months ago, PBA Car Show several months ago, the sale of “Chief Brian Spring Supporter” t-shirts. Many donations have come in from residents and former residents from across the country.
