THU 7 TO SAT 30 SEPTEMBER THE NEW WOLSEY THEATRE, SALISBURY PLAYHOUSE AND QUEEN’S THEATRE HORNCHURCH BY ARRANGEMENT WITH FIERY ANGEL LIMITED, LONDON PRESENTS

THE LADYKILLERS BY GRAHAM LINEHAN

When Mrs Wilberforce puts a sign in her newsagent’s window advertising ‘A Room to Let’, she’s delighted when the mysterious Professor Marcus proclaims it is perfect for rehearsing his unorthodox string quintet. She soon discovers that she is not making tea for a motley band of musicians, but harbouring a hardened gang of criminals and conmen planning the great Kings Cross Train Robbery! Graham Linehan (Father Ted, The IT Crowd) has adapted this much-loved film for the stage, mixing madcap comedy and criminal capers to hilarious effect. As his masterplan goes off the rails, and the bodies drop onto them, it begins to dawn on the Professor that, in Mrs Wilberforce and General Gordon, her extraordinary featherless parrot, he may have finally met his match. From the motion picture screenplay by William Rose by special arrangement with Studiocanal and Fiery Angel Ltd, London.

THU 12 TO SAT 21 OCTOBER A NEW WOLSEY THEATRE PRODUCTION

OXY & THE MORONS The Brand New Punk Musical BY PAUL SIRETT, MIKE PETERS & STEVE ALLAN JONES

When a routine check-up leads to a startling diagnosis, Andy decides it’s time to put the band back together, to crank up the amps, and party like its 1978! Why not re-form the legendary Oxy & the Morons, who burned fiercely before exploding in a riot of rivalry, jealousy and bitter betrayal? Andy’s mission involves twisting arms, healing wounds and putting his family and friendships back together. But can that punk spirit of DIY defiance be rekindled over thirty years later? Can you still pogo when your knees go? Will they play their trademark punk take of It’s Not Unusual as an encore? This brand new musical is fast, furious and very funny. Written by Paul Sirett (Reasons to be Cheerful, Mods and Rox), Mike Peters (The Alarm) and Steve Allan Jones, with a machine gun playlist of original songs, this affectionate look back at the days of teen spirit suggests we could all do with some of that garage band power right now. “Ingenious and Insightful” ★★★★ The Times “A hilarious Ayckbourn-style family comedy”

Everyone creates their own coping strategies or rules for living. But what happens when an extended family gathers for a traditional Christmas dinner, and each of them rigidly follows those rules? Christmas day will never be the same again. As the drinks flow and the obligatory games intensify, family resentments rise and relationships are pulled apart with a bang – like oh so many Christmas crackers. Award-winning director Simon Godwin directs this new production of Sam Holcroft’s brilliant and darkly funny play following a critically acclaimed run at the National Theatre in 2015. Rules for Living is brought to the stage by English Touring Theatre (Silver Lining), Rose Theatre Kingston and Royal & Derngate Northampton, the producing team who won the 2016 UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production for The Herbal Bed.

WAIT UNTIL DARK DIRECTED BY ALASTAIR WHATLEY DESIGNED BY DAVID WOODHEAD

From the hand of Frederick Knott, author of Dial M Murder, and the producers behind Night Must Fall and Birdsong, comes a major revival of the classic, edge of your seat thriller Wait Until Dark. Set amidst the social turbulence of 60’s London the play follows the story of Suzy, a blind woman who left alone in her apartment becomes embroiled with a group of conmen hatching an elaborate scam. As the tension notches up, Suzy is left to fend for herself but with the phone line cut dead and the house plunged into darkness, can Suzy outwit the murderous visitors? Wait Until Dark, made into a film starring Audrey Hepburn in 1967, is often ranked as one of the top 100 scariest films of all time and this exciting new production reclaims it for the stage. A star cast includes Jack Ellis (Prime Suspect & Bad Girls) and Oliver Mellor (Coronation Street). MON 6 NOV 7:45pm NOTE

Take a risk on something new

at the New Wolsey Studio this Autumn as we present shows that are fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, new work that needs an audience, and something a little different from our main programme!

MON 18 SEPTEMBER RASHDASH & SOHO THEATRE PRESENT

TWO MAN SHOW Following the sell-out success of their 2016 run, Fringe First Winners RashDash return with an award winning, genre-defying new hit about gender, language and humankind. John and Dan keep hearing people say that men have all the power, but it doesn’t feel like that to them. Abbi and Helen are making a show about Man and men. They want to talk about masculinity and patriarchy but the words that exist aren’t good enough, so there’s music and dance too. It’s loud and raucous.

‘Smart, potent and exhilaratingly physical attack on patriarchy’ ★★★★★ The Stage Commissioned by Soho Theatre and Northern Stage MON

TUE 26 SEPTEMBER RHUM AND CLAY PRESENTS

TESTOSTERONE What is it like going through adolescence at the age of 33? One year after transgender man Kit receives his first injection of testosterone he enters a male gym changing room for the first time. For the other guys this is just another routine moment in an ordinary changing room, but for Kit it becomes an urgent search to uncover what it means to be a man. Critically acclaimed Rhum and Clay collaborate with writer/performer Kit Redstone and wonderful drag BAME performer Daniel Jacob, in this comical coming-of-age quest for a masculine identity in an environment that affords little space to hide.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES

Audio Description captures the visual elements of a performance that a blind or partially sighted person might otherwise miss and describes them in clear, vivid language through a pair of headphones Free touch tours take place an hour before the performance.

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED

BSL interpreted performances feature a professional interpreter that translates spoken English into British Sign Language.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES

Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences access to live performance.

WHEELCHAIR USER ACCESS

There are 6 wheelchair user accessible spaces in the New Wolsey Auditorium, 4 in row C and 2 in row K (see page 20). The studio auditorium has 2 wheelchair user accessible spaces with a small passenger lift to the auditorium. The HEG is wheelchair user accessible also.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES

Relaxed performances are carefully adjusted to deliver a more informal relaxed approach to theatre. For example, changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprises and soften the impact. We have experienced their suitability for audiences with learning, physical or sensory disabilities and people living with mental health conditions, Dementia and their families. Our Bradbury Platform can be installed; increasing our wheelchair user accessible spaces up to 16!

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY

All staff members are Dementia Friends and we are working towards being a Dementia Friendly Venue. Dementia Friendly performances include a reminiscence and familiarisation talk/tour with supporting visual aids. Relaxed Performances may also be suitable for people living with Dementia.
