THE NEW WOLSEY THEATRE presents

THU 8 SEPTEMBER to SAT 1 OCTOBER

20th CENTURY BOY

WRITTEN BY / Peter Rowe in association with Gary Lloyd, based on an

original idea by Brian Dunham, Colin Giffin and Nicky Graham MUSIC AND LYRICS / Marc Bolan DIRECTOR / Gary Lloyd

The world premiere of this new musical explodes onto the New Wolsey stage this autumn. Featuring some of the greatest rock songs ever written 20th Century Boy is a celebration of the life of Marc Bolan and his band T.Rex. Rocker, poet, electric warrior, king of glam, godfather of punk – Marc Bolan tried many styles on for size in his search to become a superstar. Before his tragic death in 1977, a few days short of his 30th birthday, Bolan lived life at breakneck speed, creating a series of iconic images, a string of number one hits and an army of obsessive fans. This dynamic new musical looks behind the glitter and the sequins to discover what drove the “bard of Hackney” to become “bigger than the Beatles”. Packed with 70’s hits including Ride a White Swan, Metal Guru, Get It On, I Love to Boogie, Children of the Revolution, and of course, the title track 20th Century Boy!

Be the first to see this spectacular new musical. www.wolseytheatre.co.uk EVES / 7.45pm

NIGHT LIGHT THEATRE COMPANY presents

ROMEO AND JULIET

"Give me my Romeo; and, when I shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine..." Shakespeare’s most powerful story of tragic love is set here in a Verona unlike any ever seen; one filled with music, magic and passion. Here old feuds are given new life, as an array of beautiful puppets combine with an ensemble of performers to retell Shakespeare’s story of passion, beauty, lust and pride. Focusing heavily on creative theatre making, imagination and vivid theatrical storytelling, Night Light set out to inspire, excite and entertain in this unique interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, performed in just 75 minutes. This production has been co-commissioned by The Junction and the New Wolsey Theatre, and is supported by Arts Council England, Grants for the Arts.

SUN 9 OCTOBER MAKIN PROJECTS presents ROGER LLEWELLYN in

SHERLOCK HOLMES… THE LAST ACT! Previously Roger Llewellyn thrilled our audience with Sherlock Holmes... the Death and Life. Now, by popular demand, Llewellyn's Sherlock Holmes... the last act, comes to the New Wolsey Theatre. The world's greatest fictional detective confronts the most complex case of all… his own psyche - exploring the mind of the real man – not 'the thinking machine', a passionate and secretive man, with a cutting sense of humour. Stripping away his infamous clinical façade, Holmes reveals unexpected fears and weaknesses.

“In these elegant hands, this is Holmes as you’ve always imagined him - but with a cutting sense of humour” Sunday Express

Anton is forced to leave his village and finds himself 16 floors above a city cleaning windows, Malik’s on a beach looking towards a country where women walk around half-naked - apparently, Dialo’s learning tabloid English, Ann just isn’t ready to have a baby and Felix falls for a beautiful migrant woman in a nightclub, he doesn’t see the cleaner that everyone else sees but then she said she was a fashion designer. A chance meeting drives disparate lives towards a terrible moment of reckoning. When did it all start…80,000 years ago when we all first left Africa? Following on from Transport’s acclaimed revival of Europe at the Barbican, London, Invisible is a funny, moving, highly visual and urgent exploration of 21st Century mobility. Invisible is written by Croatia's leading playwright Tena , directed Douglas Rintoul (New Wolsey, Barbican, Complicite) and choreographed by awardwinning choreographer Darren Johnston. Supported by Arts Council England, the European Cultural Foundation, Complicite and the Jerwood Space.

TUE 25 to SAT 29 OCTOBER ENGLISH TOURING THEATRE presents ROGER MCGOUGH’S adaptation of MOLIÈRE’S

“Comedy genius… fun, frivolous and fantastic” Metro

TARTUFFE or the IMPOSTER

www.ett.org.uk

Audiences are in for a treat this autumn when that master of wit, Roger McGough dips his magic quill, adapting Molière’s sublime comedy Tartuffe. Tartuffe is a beacon of piety and has his feet firmly under the table in the home of wealthy merchant, Orgon. But is he friend, fraud, miracle or hypocrite? The family smells a rat and amid the frills and frivolity of Seventeenth Century society, they hatch a cunning plan to outwit the wily deceiver before he brings their house crashing down… Directed by Gemma Bodinez, this scathingly funny production reunites ETT with the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse following their hilarious joint production of Roger McGough’s version of Molière’s The Hypochondriac in 2009.

Welcome We are looking forward to a great programme of accessible performances this season. Such a variety; from 20th Century Boy, to Tartuffe, to Robin Hood Babes in the Wood, and a new addition this year is accessible work at our studio theatre with Penguin. The British Sign Language Interpretation of Penguin is the first time we have ever programmed accessible work at our studio theatre, and we are very excited to bring children’s theatre into our accessible performances programme. We are pleased to be continuing our work with The Hearing Care Centre, Ipswich to fly the flag for captioning which continues to be a great success. We have found that up to 35% of audiences find captioning useful; so why not give it a try (see overleaf for more information).
