Ipswich Operatic & Dramatic Society presents

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS

Book by Jeffrey Lane Music and Lyrics by David Yazbek Based on the film “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” written by Dale Launer and Stanley Shapiro & Paul Henning

By Frances Hodgson Burnett Adapted and Directed by Amy Wyllie Designed by Becca Gibbs

IODS are delighted to be back at the New Wolsey after 20 years with this fabulous, musical version of the hit film, which starred Michael Caine and Steve Martin. Set on the sparkling French Riviera, the decadent world of sophisticated conman Lawrence Jameson is about to come crashing down with the arrival of Freddy Benson - a conman of an entirely different order! The two go head-to-head in the con of their lives, pulling out all the stops in a bid for the money (and affections) of a millionaire soap heiress. What have they let themselves in for?

When Mary Lennox is orphaned she is bundled off to live with her uncle at the gloomy Misselthwaite Manor. Sullen, spoilt and lonely, she begins to be entranced by the mysteries of the house and its gardens… but can she unlock the secrets that are held within? With the help of some unexpected friends – and an overgrown magical garden – her life, and the lives of those around her are transformed. This Summer, Spinning Wheel Theatre’s charming and heartwarming adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s treasured childhood novel hits the road across East Anglia. A joyful and uplifting tale of magic, friendship and hope, this is a show for all the family.

Appeal Theatre Group presents

Music by Jule Styne Book by Arthur Laurents Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

An event which is part of Ipswich Jazz Festival ipswichjazzfestival.org.uk

Gypsy is based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee. It tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girls have their own ambitions in mind. The rise of burlesque is upon them, and nothing will ever be the same again for Momma Rose.

Orchestra with vocalist Jacqui Hicks

Directed by trumpet-player Paul Lacey, Back To Basie features London session musicians and jazz soloists all dedicated to the music of Count Basie’s legendary ‘Swingin’ Machine’ - straight ahead swing played with dynamics, good humour, and a large dose of the blues! Launched in 2001, Back To Basie have since been presenting concerts with “accuracy and style” throughout Britain and Europe to great reviews. Back To Basie has been voted Best Big Band in the British Jazz Awards six times - in seven years!

WHO INVENTED THE SAUSAGE?!

Kesgrave Amateur Theatre Society presents

Following the sell-out success of The Vicar of Dibley, KATS, Kesgrave Amateur Theatre Society return to present Spirit Level a comedy by Pam Valentine. Famous crime writer Jack Cameron and his wife Susie die in an accident and when they are refused entry into heaven, return to haunt the cottage they once lived in. Life is dull until a young couple move in. With the help of a guardian angel, spooky fun and games ensue with an estate agent and an over-bearing mother-in-law!

Discoveries in science and technology have changed the world. Archaeologists’ unearthed ancient civilisations, explorers found lost tribes… and Arthur Smith found £3.91 in a coat he’d forgotten he had at the back of his wardrobe. We can’t all be great explorers, and discover the next big thing, but with help from children and young people from schools and community groups from all over Suffolk he might just answer some really big questions like… how does Argos work? Who let the dogs out? And who invented the sausage?

SUFFOLK SOUL SINGERS

The award winning CTC proudly presents

Book by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay Lyrics by Johnny Mercer Music by Gene De Paul

Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original MGM film, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is all the boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical. Set in Oregon in 1850, this truly rollicking adventure tells the story of Millie, a young bride whose plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from the neighboring town to be their brides!

Suffolk Soul Singers return to the New Wolsey Theatre to bring you an evening of soul and gospel influenced music. Led by Andi Hopgood, a Suffolk based vocalist with a love of jazz and improvisation, and accompanied by a live band, this community choir always packs its performances with a mixture of old and new foot stomping songs in rich four part harmony, that are guaranteed to get you on your feet. “Cleverly arranged to showcase individuals and the whole group, we were soon clapping and singing along to hits from the likes of the Isley Brothers and Jimmy Cliff to Adele and Michael Jackson.” Ipswich Star
