NO MIRACLES HERE

"If it’s likely something you want to do is going to go very VERY badly... then it’s probably not worth doing, right?” Definitely categorically 100% based on true events; through music, absurd soulful metaphors and chain smoking puppets, Eden tells the emotional and tragic tale of an exponentially unfortunate fox… Don’t be fooled by the cuddly toys. If you thought this was going to be a children’s show… you thought wrong.

‘Tighten your laces, look to the band and don't let your knees hit the ground.’ A tale of resilience, strength and the need to just stay on your feet, The Letter Room present a sweat soaked marathon with a Northern Soul. Packed with live music and wall-to-wall dancing, No Miracles Here is an anthem to feeling alive and keeping the faith.

30 May to 8 Jun

across the New Wolsey Theatre and Studio

Join us as we present some of the finest work from across the UK and beyond, including shows from internationally renowned artists, some great shows for younger audiences, and work still in development on Suitcase and Scratch days. Keep an eye out for the full line up announcement this Spring, but for now, we’re thrilled to let you know that our Saturday evenings closing performance will be 1927’s The Animals and Children Took To The Streets!

SAT 8 JUN 1927 PRESENT

THE ANIMALS AND CHILDREN TOOK TO THE STREETS Welcome to the Bayou, a part of the city feared and loathed wherein lies the infamous Bayou Mansions; a sprawling stinking tenement block, where curtaintwitchers and peeping-toms live side by side, and the wolf... is always at the door. When Agnes Eaves and her daughter arrive late one night, does it signal hope in this hopeless place, or has the real horror only just begun? Seamlessly synchronising live music, performance and storytelling with stunning films and animation this is the wickedly twisted international hit tale from the multiple award-winning company behind Golem, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and The Magic Flute. I WISH I WAS A MOUNTAIN

On the day of the famous annual fair, the town of Faldum receives an unexpected visit. A wanderer offers to grant a wish to anyone who wants one. Before long, the city is transformed. Mansions stand where mud huts once squatted, and beggars ride around in horse drawn carriages. And one man wishes to be turned into a mountain. I Wish I was a Mountain uses rhyme, live music, and just a smattering of metaphysical philosophy to boldly reimagine Herman Hesse’s classic fairytale. SAT

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES Audio Description captures the visual elements of a performance that a blind or partially sighted person might otherwise miss and describes them in clear, vivid language through a pair of headphones. Free touch tours take place an hour before the performance.

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED BSL interpreted performances feature a professional interpreter that translates spoken English into British Sign Language.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences access to live performance.

WHEELCHAIR USER ACCESS There are 6 wheelchair user accessible spaces in the New Wolsey Auditorium, 4 in row C and 2 in row K. The studio auditorium has 2 wheelchair user accessible spaces with a small passenger lift to the auditorium. The HEG is wheelchair user accessible also.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY RELAXED PERFORMANCES A Relaxed and/or Dementia Friendly performance is one which has been carefully adjusted to reduce anxiety or stress for those who might otherwise find the experience unsettling or difficult. For example, changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprise and soften their impact and there is a relaxed attitude to noise and moving around the auditorium during the performance. We have experienced these performances’ suitability for audiences with autism, sensory and communication needs, learning and/or physical disabilities, mental health conditions or people living with dementia. Our Bradbury Platform is installed for these performances, increasing our wheelchair user accessible spaces up to 12. We are working towards being a Dementia Friendly Venue and staff members are Dementia Friends. We look forward to welcoming you on your visit to the theatre.
