Autumn Shows 2022
Ramps on the Moon News
Welcome!
Led by the New Wolsey Theatre, and funded by Arts Council England, Ramps on the Moon is a collaborative partnership of six National Portfolio Organisation theatres; Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Nottingham Playhouse, Leeds Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres and two associate partners Wiltshire Creative and RTYDS (Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme) to enrich the stories we tell by normalising the presence of deaf and disabled people on and off stage.
I am delighted to present our Autumn Season 2022 to you all.
Visit rampsonthemoon.co.uk to find out more.

Together, we share learnings between us and across the industry, work with the ‘Agents for Change’ within each partner theatre, make touring productions that reflect society back at itself, challenge audiences on what to expect and ultimately give the industry, as a whole, permission to take risks.
Highlights for Autumn include the Ramps on the Moon co-production with Sheffield Theatres of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing as well as Kinky Boots which we are creating with Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch and to wrap up the season our rock ‘n’ roll pantomime - Goldilocks and the Three Bears written and directed by Peter Rowe.

This has been a particularly important season to programme for me, as it’s my last one for the New Wolsey. It is my hope that you find it stimulating, challenging and, most of all, enjoyable. The theatre heads into its new chapter with Doug Rintoul stepping in as the new Chief Executive in May, who I have no doubt will take the New Wolsey on to new heights! I wish you all the very best and thank you for your continued commitment and interest in our organisation. Sarah Holmes

It all started at a party back in the Eighties. Ian, the celebrity record producer, Phil, the hot young singer songwriter, Becca, the cool studio receptionist and a glance across a crowded floor that sparks a blaze to last a lifetime.
which will be their lasting legacy.
As the tangled web between these three unfolds – the anger and the ecstasy, the loyalty and betrayal, the love and the lust – are all captured in the songs
‘I do love nothing in the world so well as you. Is not that strange?’
Three stools, three characters, one piano, one guitar and a lifetime’s worth of pleasure and pain in an album’s worth of songs.
Besotted young couple Claudio and Hero have fallen fast and are quickly engaged. Not everyone finds romance so straightforward – Beatrice, Hero’s cousin and confirmed spinster, and Benedick a friend of Beatrice’s, both balk at the very thought of their hasty engagement – that much they can agree on.
But somewhere in this world, there’s someone for everyone, even if they’re right under your nose. Shakespeare’s raucous comedy Much Ado About Nothing is made in association with Ramps on the Moon, the pioneering initiative committed to putting deaf and disabled people at the centre of their work. Every performance features the use of integrated creative British Sign Language, audio description and captioning.

ACCESS INFORMATION Information The New Wolsey Theatre is a theatre for everyone. We strive to be as accessible as possible to all who come and enjoy our diverse programme of events or just fancy coming in for a coffee. For further information visit: wolseytheatre.co.uk/access/ 01473 295900 tickets@wolseytheatre.co.uk Audio Described Performances Audio Description captures the visual elements of a performance that a blind or partially-sighted person might otherwise miss and describes them in clear, vivid language through a pair of headphones. Free touch tours take place an hour before the performance. British Sign Language Interpreted Performances BSL interpreted performances feature a professional interpreter who translates spoken English into British Sign Language. Sometimes BSL is integrated into the show itself, meaning it is done by the actors on stage. Captioned Performances Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give deaf, deafened or hard-of-hearing audiences access to live performance. Wheelchair User Access There are six wheelchair user accessible spaces in the New Wolsey auditorium with step-free access: four in row C and two in row K. There is also a
passenger lift to the upstairs seating in the auditorium. Both NW2 and the HEG are wheelchair user accessible. Relaxed and Dementia Friendly Performances A Relaxed and/or Dementia Friendly performance is one that has been carefully adjusted to reduce anxiety or stress for those who might otherwise find the experience unsettling or difficult. For example, changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprise and soften their impact. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and moving around in the auditorium during the performance. These performances may be suitable for audiences with autism, sensory and communication needs, learning and/ or physical disabilities, mental health conditions or people living with dementia. RP/DF
Our Bradbury Platform is installed for these performances, increasing our wheelchair user accessible spaces up to 12. We are working towards being a Dementia Friendly venue and staff members are Dementia Friends.
