A bigger, more inclusive St Ambrose Parish Primary Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, today announced that St Ambrose Parish Primary School in Woodend will receive $3.2 million as one of the more than 50 projects under the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund. The works will update and expand the existing facilities at St Ambrose, increasing the learning areas in a response to growing student numbers, as well as to address accessibility issues and provide a welcoming and identifiable entry to the school. “Our school and local community welcome this exciting news. This money has come at a time where it is needed to build further classrooms to cater for
increasing enrolments, as well as make our learning areas more contemporary and flexible,” said Bronwyn Phillips, the school’s Principal. “We also need this money to enable us to make our campus inclusive for all. We can now have wheelchair access built in as well as amenities upgraded to cater for everyone.” “This is a really exciting project for the entire St Ambrose school community - and will give our students the opportunity to learn in first-class facilities,” said Ms Thomas. The 56 projects will create close to 800 jobs during construction, and follows more than $1.18 billion for new schools, upgrades and expansions of
government schools announced in May. Additional funding for this second round of the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund has been brought forward to help stimulate the economy and create jobs. The successful schools will be able to start their projects within the next six months, driving Victoria’s economic recovery from the pandemic and the summer’s bushfires. The projects will help these schools meet growing enrolment demand and includes six new schools in growth areas. More than a third of Victorian students attend Catholic or Independent schools.
