edgy & engaged Manhattan Media
For the past 20 years, New York Press has remained an independent voice in a city where media reigns supreme, offering journalism in the radical first person to readers hungry for something smart, insightful and surprising. Unlike many other publications who pander to their audiences, the Press consistently pushes the boundaries to attract new readers and retain existing ones with humor, contrarian’s point of views and provocative experiences; reveling in what makes New York City the epicenter of inspiration, attracting artists, musicians and creative types. The numbers prove it: With an average age of 39.7 and median income of $130,000, the New York Press captures the attention of young, plugged-in readers who like to work hard, play hard and know what’s happening before anyone else. Our writers are devoted to uncovering what’s new in the city’s politics, food, films and music, so that the weekly paper remains an edgy, groundbreaking source of information for issues ranging from sex and media, to real estate and culture.

savvy & upscale parents Manhattan Media
New York Family is a lifestyle magazine focused on the interests, issues and concerns of educated, affluent New York City parents. In a tone and style that’s savvy (without being trendy) and sophisticated (without being snobby), the magazine covers subjects of interest to local parents (and parents-to-be) with children from newborn to tween and teen –– including education/admissions; real estate and home design; cultural activities for families; children’s classes; birthday parties; family travel; health and fitness; children’s fashion and shopping; green family living; maternity; special needs; and more. According to a recent New York Times article, “Manhattan’s 35,000 or so toddlers are being raised by parents whose median income was $284,208 a year in 2005, which means they are growing up in wealthier households than similar youngsters in any other large county in the country.” Riding the wave of upscale parents choosing to raise their children in the city, the magazine has quickly become a must-read for local parents, and a mustpurchase for advertisers who want to reach them. In addition to the Manhattan edition, Manhattan Media publishes New York Family Brooklyn, and a twice-a-year magazine for parents planning Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, called Mitzvah.

ideas about relationships. John Gottman did the research. The founder of the well-regarded Love Lab (www.lovelabresearch.com) in Seattle, Gottman has been a leader in the serious study of relationship dynamics and satisfaction for over 30 years, and he’s also skilled at distilling his knowledge into readable and interesting books. Couples with young children might find something they can relate to in his latest book like “And Baby Makes Three: The Six-Step Plan For Preserving Marital Intimacy And Rekindling Romance After Baby Arrives”— which despite the suggestive title is mostly about having a great marriage. Others in longer relationships might find some helpful ideas in “Ten Lessons To Transform Your Marriage.” Don’t be put off by the overly-prescribed titles—that’s just marketing and packaging. These books, which Gottman wrote with his Love Lab co-founder and wife, psychologist Julie Schwartz Gottman, have a lot of wisdom to be mined. Also worth reading: the fascinating section on Gottman and his ability to analyze and even predict relationship obstacles in Malcolm Gladwell’s “Blink.”)
