NEXT Distro Position: Communications Consultant Compensation: $35/hour with flexible 8 hour/week schedule Location: Remote role, United States Overview NEXT Distro “NEXT” is an online and mail-based harm reduction program working to provide resources to people who use drugs that cannot access in-person services. NEXT operates in 30+ states through the partnership of in-state affiliates whose resources vary. Our goal is to support people who use drugs that cannot access in-person harm reduction services. NEXT will be hiring a Communications Consultant to lead the development and execution of social media, promotion, and press communications. Responsibilities ● Support NEXT in building and living our social media values, support NEXT in developing other guidance documents for our communications work as necessary including but not limited to a communications strategic vision; Lead the NEXT team in developing an approval process for social media posts ● Design content for social media, print media, paid promotions, and organizational publications in partnership with NEXT’s graphic designer ● Develop and execute a social media content calendar ● Develop and push press releases, drive communications and promotion initiatives based in program strategy ● Research topics and create social media posts based on the interests and requests of program participants and the NEXT team; consultant invited to propose topics relevant to NEXT’s participant population/ the harm reduction community ● Build-out story highlights function for organization on Instagram ● Lead development of social media posts that highlight program affiliates, support program affiliates in submitting photos and content ● In partnership with the Impact Strategist, analyze social media traffic data, communicate results with team and stakeholders, and assist with interpretation and application to practice ● Oversee paid social media posts as needed ● Lead NEXT’s Social Media chat group (in google chat) for discussion, brainstorming, and other communication needs with the team. ● Other communications duties as assigned Requirements ● Commitment to the field of harm reduction, belief in drug user health and right of bodily autonomy, and intrinsic understanding of the importance of open access of resources ● The ideal candidate is someone who is an expert in navigating social media platforms including trouble-shooting ● Have at least two years of personal and/or professional experience in communications, social media content development

Have strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to adjust to changing priorities, flexible, and interested in working in a team environment Proven track record of working with purpose and integrity while self-directed in a remote work setting Reliable and trustworthy, ability to effectively communicate verbally and through phone, email, chat, and video. Must have some project management experience including the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks in order of importance, follow through with commitments, ensure proper documentation, and report back to team members.
