NextHarmReductionisplanningtohireanewExecutiveDirectortostartinDecember2023. NextHarmReductionakaNEXTDistro“NEXT”isanonlineandmail-basedharmreduction servicedesignedtoreduceopioidoverdosedeath,preventinjection-relateddisease transmission,andimprovethelivesofpeoplewhousedrugs.
NEXTwasthefirstprogramofitskindintheUnitedStatesandhasbeenresponsiblefor advancinganewmodalityofserviceprovisiontoserveandsupportpeopleathighriskof overdoseanddrug-relateddiseasetransmission.Throughpioneeringauniquehub-and-spoke modelofharmreductionservices,NEXTandaffiliatedpartnershaveformedthefirstnational harmreductionservicedeliveringfreeservicesbymailtohouseholdsinover80%ofUS counties.
TheExecutiveDirectorprovidesleadership,vision,andstrategicdirectionforNEXTand overseesalloperations,programmatic,financial,andtechnicalsystems.Theyareresponsible forfundraisingactivities,implementingpolicy,andrepresentingtheorganizationon international,national,state,city,andcommunitylevels.Thisisaremotepositionwithsome travelrequired.
NEXT’snewExecutiveDirectorwillbepositionedtobuilduponahealthyfinancialoutlook andsolidinfrastructureofinnovativeharmreductionprogramming,andpositiveworking relationshipswithaffiliateprograms,funders,andnationalstakeholders.AsNEXTtransitions fromfoundingtonewleadership,theExecutiveDirectorwillpartnerwithboardandstaffto furtherstrengthenNEXT’sinternalinfrastructure,cultivatenewpartnerships,harnessemerging fundingopportunities,andworktosupportthefollowingareas:

Strengthening and Expanding Partnerships:ThenextExecutiveDirectorwillensurethat NEXTisworkingtogetherwithour30+organizationalpartnerstoeffectivelyadvance mail-basedharmreductionservicesintheUnitedStates.Thismayincludeastrategicplanfor nationalandaffiliatefundraisingtosupportandexpandprogramoperations.TheExecutive DirectorwillalsobuildNEXT’svisionofmail-basedharmreductionservicesacrossall50 statesbyengagingharmreductionorganizationsinstateswheremail-basedservicesdonot currentlyoperate,andsupportingthemovementasitnavigatesthelegal,financial,and programmaticcomplexityofmail-basedharmreductionservices.

● Abilitytocreatenewpartnershipsbyspeakingtotheimportanceofmail-basedharm reductionandfosteringrelationshipswithorganizations,healthdepartments,and stakeholders

Technology and Security:ThenextExecutiveDirectorwillensureacultureoftechnology securityforthepurposeofensuringthesafetyoftheparticipantsthatNEXTserves.This includescarryingforwardNEXT’sdevelopmentofanencryptedorderingandfulfillment systemtobeavailableacrossNEXT’saffiliatepartners.

Fundraising & Finance:ThenextExecutiveDirectorwillleadfundraisingeffortsandoversee allfinancialsystemstoensurealignmentwithNEXT’sstrategicgoalsofexpandingmail-based harmreductionnationally.InpartnershipwiththeFiscalDirectorandOperationsDirector,the ExecutiveDirectorwilltrackexpendituresandrevenue,preparebudgets,andcompleterequired reportingtograntandgovernmentfunders.

NEXTisseekingasocialjusticeorientedleaderwhohaslivedexperiencethemselforaspartof asystemsimpactedcommunity.NEXTisopentocandidatesfromawiderangeofjusticeand liberationinspiredmovementsincludingbutnotlimitedtohealthequity,reproductivehealth, drugpolicy,publichealth,TGNCrights,criminaljusticereform,education,climatejustice, housingreform,andeconomicjustice.
TheExecutiveDirectorroleisafull-time,salariedposition.Thereisapreferenceforhiringin NewYorkState; however,NEXTwillbeacceptingapplicationsnationallyasthepositionis abletoberemote.Thesalaryrangeforthispositionis$100,000-$110,000peryear.NEXT full-timeemployeesenjoygenerousPTO,a100%employer-sponsoredhealthinsuranceplan, andaretirementplanthatincludesa3%match.ThispositionreportstotheBoardofDirectors.
