Consultant Project: PWID Skin Care

PROJECT PROPOSAL PROJECT TITLE: PWID SKIN CARE Format/Medium: Variable DESCRIPTION NEXT Harm Reduction mails harm reduction supplies to people who use drugs across the country. The vast majority of our participants are low/no income and over half have no health insurance. Low-cost and holistic methods of managing injection related skin care concerns (injection sites, scabbing, track marks/scarring, soft tissue infections, etc.) are needed. In order to support participants’ understanding of PWID skin care, we are looking to include a printed material (pamphlet, guide, comic, etc) for NEXT packages and online.

PRODUCT Creation of a pamphlet, infoguide, comic, or other written/visual/video project that focuses on: ● Safer injection with a focus on skin health incl. preventing scarring ● Skin health post injection ● Long-term injection site care ● Other sub-topics as applicable The product will utilize language and/or imagery, explanations, and descriptions that are personally relatable and accessible to our participants who largely do not come from an academic background. Our general standard is that materials should be accessible to a 5th grade reading level.

OTHER DETAILS ● Artist(s)/Author(s)/Organization(s) will retain ownership of work product, it is not necessary for NEXT to be credited ● Product will be created with understanding that it is ‘open access’ on the NEXT website, available to download and share ● Project build-out will be supported by the NEXT team, including review by our Medical Advisory Board ● NEXT requests a document of English text for the purpose of Spanish translation; Our team will provide translation -- two final products in English and Spanish will be produced ● Artist(s)/Author(s)/Organization(s) will be supported by NEXT’s graphic designer, applicants need not have graphic design skills ● Project is estimated to be completed over 16 hours, turn around time is 4 weeks ● Honorarium upon completion: $400 USD TO APPLY Email concept note/project proposal with estimated timeline to content@nextdistro.org by April 16th.
