We bribed three Yen delegates to take us on a stroll down their street and share why they love their neighbourhood.

My name is Lebogang Tlhako. I am a photographer. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. My neighbourhood is Katlehong, Germiston. I’ve always lived here but since my sister moved out and got married, wherever she goes, I go. So I never spend a lot of time on my block. The best thing about my neighbourhood is the cultural diversity. It’s like all the colours of the rainbow nation epitomising the South African landscape. And my least favourite is drugs are easily accessible. If you walk down the street you will see nothing as refreshing as someone walking down the streets in their own little world of awesomeness. From ‘old timers’ to kids playing house. Growing up I used to dress up in my mother’s clothes and pretend to have a fashion show, so it’s quite refreshing seeing other kids do it. You’ll hear cars roaming the streets and music being played full blast. I like the area because of the people. I’m drawn to people that are eccentric or different. I’m an aesthete. I pay attention to the little things and I’ve got an advantage of showing an outsider my ‘world’ – wouldn’t you want to see something different? I say hello to ‘Bagolo’ (the eldery), my neighbours, people I grew up with but I ignore chancers (guys in my block taking chances, courting). My favourite place to grab a bite is D'Bobo’s Kasi Fast Food and I order a dagwood, which is a toasted sandwich with chips. My local coffee shop is Daleahs, in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. I drink at I’m an occasional drinker and I usually let loose when I’m at my favourite jam session, Thesis. If you want to shop head to Dope Store for fresh sneakers and gladiator sandals. The most exciting thing that happened on my block was there’s actually never a dull moment on my block. You are guaranteed to be amused on a daily basis. If my neighbourhood had a soundtrack it would be the song 'Mess in the Kitchen’ by Kwani Experience. That’s my neighbourhood. It is what it is – the best.
