REBEKAH CAMPBELL rebekahcampbell.net My name is Rebekah Campbell. I’m a photographer, student, and artist. I live in the States, between Savannah, Georgia and New York. I met Ben through a magazine we both were in, and it was suggested we collaborate. After that, we kept doing it. We’ve never met in person. My first impression of him (through the internet) was that he was enormously talented and had such a good grasp on life. We decided to work together for this project because it kind of just made sense. We’d been talking about something to do that broke 3-D a bit and so I sent him these photos. He’s wonderful at conceptualising things and I’m intrigued by the kinds of art we make. Creative collaboration is all about knowing your partner’s ideas and being able to combine these two styles to be cohesive in a sense. Communication and having good taste is key. You have to be able to critique the other person. I get my best ideas when I’m not trying to think of an idea, it’s usually when I’m looking at someone and they think I’m listening to them but really there’s something insane going on in my head. When I wake up in the morning I check my phone. I’m that 21st century person and I hate it. I’m a huge fan of St. Vincent’s new album, used bookstores, going to new cities, staying up late with people I love, writing snail mail, recognising strangers in different places, making art, boys that have long hair, and being sarcastic. I dream about being able to travel outside of America more. I can’t wait to go back to New York this summer. And also some projects that are coming out soon that I’m kind of proud of. When I was younger I wanted to be a veterinarian and

I was obsessed with every single show on Animal Planet. It was always between that and my art classes, where one of the first things I had hanging up for a ‘show’ in elementary was a couple and their cat in the lobby at the vet’s office. The last idea that kept me up at night was what I should do for my spring break. I’ve been meaning to go through my closet and sell a bunch of things but it takes so much time to actually do it all. I’m saving up for a new digital camera but keep spending my money on iced coffee instead. The thing that makes me laugh hardest is The Office, Jack Black in School of Rock and really weird jokes I make with friends. My happy place is somewhere that’s not close to home, with my camera in hand. Or somewhere with a lot of festivities happening around me. When I get stressed I slam my bedroom door shut and lie on my bed facedown in a pillow and make strange noises, after about 15 minutes I’m fine. My creative hero is not just one but probably a list of 20 artists. I am obsessed with way too many. My Achilles heel is comparing myself to everyone around me; I suppose it’s the downfall of a lot of artists. To get inspired I recommend watching something you’ve never seen. I recommend L’Avventura by Michelangelo Antonioni or Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard, listening to Sigur Ros, closing your eyes and putting things into a picture and then making that picture in real life. I’m working on way too many things at once. I am making a small edition book that will be handmade with words and photographs. Also this exciting campaign that will have a video with it (should be released soon) and some smaller things.

Dogs, cats & vintage goods

Vintage store owner, designer and keeper of the dolls, Hannah Metz, twirls us round her Brooklyn home. PHOTOS CHELSEE IVAN PHOTOS AMBER MAHONEY

THE HOOD I've lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for the past four, almost five, years. It's a fun neighbourhood, what it lacks in aesthetic beauty it makes up for in food and friends. I live here with my husband, artist Landon Metz, my brother Liam and cats Pippin and Bobo. FELINE FRIENDS Pippin is the boy (the smaller of the two) and Bobo is the girl. They've lived with us for three years and I love them like they came from my own belly. Pippin is shy and a mama's boy and Bobo is outgoing. They're both perfect cuddle buddies. PLAYING FAVOURITES My living room because it functions as an office, dining room, garden, dance studio and home theatre (and for the time being, my brother's bedroom). And my most treasured item is a teddy I've had since my first day. IT ALL BEGAN... When I was 12 and I bought my first pair of vintage bellbottoms, they were plaid and had wooden buttons all up the front. I feel like that was the turning point, that was when I truly fell in love with clothing. In fifth grade I had a pair of platform converse shoes, multicolour striped denim short-alls, a green jean jacket and a red and black baseball hat with the bill removed. I remember feeling pretty cool in that outfit.
