Welcome to my portfolio! These are the works that I did throughout my journey in understanding that there’s more to graphic design than using Bebas Neue in your Canva presentations and laughing at Comic Sans memes. I hope the culmination of these works (and subsequently, me) can find its home at your company.

My name is Neysa Vania, but you can call me Ney. I’m a graphic design graduate from Multimedia Nusantara University with a big, big love for everything creative. I am an enthusiastic problem-solver who’s always eager to learn and collaborate with other fantastic minds to create amazing designs that are not only a treat to the eyes, but also solutions to real problems.

MADE FOR Personal Work

Kasa Milk Shop was a personal project for a Japanesethemed, online-based baby supplies store. In order to give the brand a friendly face, I made mascots of a family inspired by my own!

Meet the energetic siblings, Kaka and Sasa! They’re here to help kids like them to grow healthy and happy so they can play together. With help from Papa and Mama, the family is ready to answer everything your bundle of joy needs.

Kasa means “umbrella” in Japanese. And so, for the logo & supergraphic, I used a stylized version of the asanoha pattern which contains hexagonal shapes (like an umbrella) that resembles hemp leaves. I also chose this pattern because it’s commonly used for children’s kimonos to wish them a healthy growth.

After the logo was done, I sketched the mascots in the style of Japanese chibis in Photoshop. Then head on over to Illustrator to finalize them into mascots.

Being a big branding project (a personal one at that), I try to test my limits by sharpening my illustrative vector skills; something I haven’t gotten a hang of at the time. The project also allowed me to have some fun & indulge in my favorite aesthetics: cute characters in bright colors.

When I refined this project again for this portfolio, I was proud of how it still stood nicely among my other professional works. So as to give you an image: this kind of project is what I do best.

A logotype of a portmanteau between “level” and “excel” for a money-exchange application concept as part of my internship at Egghead Branding Agency

The logo was modelled after the Javanese batik pattern, Parang Kusumo, which highlights hard work and perseverance as life’s most important values.

Mad for Makeup is a local indie makeup company specializing in creating skincare-infused beauty products that are acne-safe & comfortable for daily use. During my stay there, I was in charge of designing daily social media posts, executing new product launch campaigns, packaging concepts, and making photo-shoot plans. The baked goods company, Dakari, commissioned Egghead for their upcoming packaging for Eid Al-Fitr. As my first task here, I combined the mosaic patterns found on mosque roofs with hot-air balloons for a fresh new design that stood out from overplayed tropes of Eid Al-Fitr designs.

This self-help book is the thesis project for my Bachelor’s Degree. The initial idea stems from an alarming number of criminal cases done as revenge. I found that there was little research done on the psychology of revenge here in Indonesia, which inspired me to research, write, and eventually design this book. “Memori Merah” (Indonesian for “red memory”) contains everything one needs to know about revenge and how to control it through emotional regulation in order to not only prevent people from doing harm, but also benefit from it.

The initial concept is to make a case file with 1920’s noir detective film. As usual, the creative process begins with compiling ideas & inspirations into a moodboard. For this noir book, I’ve chosen to combine 2 of my favorite illustration styles: Malika Favre’s Pop-Op (Pop-Art Optical Illusion) style and Coles Phillips’ most famous Fadeaway style.

To give the book a used case journal look, I added old yellow paper textures, coffee cup stain marks, black-and-white photographs, and marker writings for the pages.

The drafting process begins with sketching key illustrations and layouts, followed with making a plan for each pages of the book.

A good friend of mine held a Little-Prince-themed graduation recital and commissioned me for assets such as a digital poster, a playbook, title slides, and lastly: some simple illustrations of the classic story that plays throughout the recital.

For the illustrations, I used textured brushes to give it that hand-drawn look while keeping the clear shape and form that you usually find in vector illustrations.

Moxy the Space Ferret

Meet Moxy, the first ever ferret in space. She is my submission for a mascot competition held by Oxygen.id Home, an internet service provider. Moxy is inspired by a real-life story of how Felicia, a ferret, helped scientists from Fermilab in operating a particle accelator back in the 1960s. I then explored the idea of a pet ferret helping humanity get faster internet in space (and also provide the lonely spacemen some companionship) and came up with Moxy. The mascot represents friendliness, helpfulness, and curiosity towards making breakthroughs.

White ferrets are friendly and curious creatures with high energy and fast movements. I made sketches of Moxy in a space suit and felt happy with the end result. The name I chose was from the word “moxie” which in English means “confident and driven”. I then spelled it “Moxy” to rhyme with the company’s name.

This is Milang si Mentilin, and their partners: Lala si Lada Putih and Kakam si Buah Rukam. They are designed as a mascot concept for the annual sports event Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) as part of my mascot design assignment. I took local animals & plants from Pangkalpinang to introduce the city’s natural richness. Milang is a cute, energetic, and playful mentilin monkey who’s representing enthusiasm and glory for competing athletes. Together with Lala’s outgoing personality and Kakam’s wit, they are here to bring spirit and excitement to the upcoming PON.

Throughout my career, I’ve been practicing vector illustrations because of how simple and familiar the controls in Illustrator are. I also enjoyed the clean, steamlined look it gives; not to mention how easy it is to resize and reuse assets.
