Senior Show – An annual exhibit and culminating event in the curriculum of St. Olaf College studio art majors.Twenty-four artists’ works span two galleries, the central corridor and installation spaces within the Center for Art and Dance. A variety of themes are explored.

Center for Art and Design 205: Perception, Perspective & Power – An exhibit curated by the Class of 2019 Art History majors where relationships between artist, viewer, subject and medium are investigated. Diving into questions of identity, power differences and positionality, see how visual culture is shaped as well as how it shapes us.

One-Day Exhibition: Paintings by Max Lyonga – Apr. 27 11am-4pm. Open house and reception. Lyonga is a Cameroonian contemporary artist and a current visiting Artist-in-Residence at Carleton. Artist talk at 1pm. Enjoy this rare opportunity to meet this international artist and experience his “mokwe” style paintings – a mixture of abstraction with impressionism. Up Gallery: Cell Persona: Incarceration’s Impact on Black Lives – through May 11 – Artist Statement: “Cell Persona is about the far psychological and civic reach of incarceration into the lives of persons and their families’ [and their] ability to participate in democratic life even after incarceration. My cells discover the fact that disproportionately black persons populate our prisons and the cell reaches beyond its interior.”

Egg-Crafting: The Art of Katherine Ott – through May 3 – Eggs decorated with beautiful patterns and carved into beautiful shapes. This exhibit offers a sampling of eggs Katherine Ott created over a 10-year period. Her collection includes chicken, goose, turkey, duck, quail, pheasant, sparrow and even an ostrich egg. What she has done with the eggs is simply amazing. She has covered the eggs with beads and braids and has put tiny figures into them. Some are lined with velvet and most are decorated with paper flowers. Each is a unique piece of art.

Six Decades of Wedding Gowns – Twelve gowns from 1888 to 1948 show various styles, materials and colors selected by brides for their walks down Steele County aisles. While white became a dominant color following Queen Victoria’s wedding in 1840, these brides often chose cream, tan, green and even black.

Over Here, Over There: Steele County in the Great War – The Great War sprang upon Minnesota at a time of great political and social upheaval. It brought resolution to some problems, leaving uncertainty and new issues in its wake. Visit the Steele County History Center and read firsthand accounts by residents, experience warfare through sights, sounds and smells, sing along with WWI songs and more.

Interactives for ages 4 through 94. Toys and Play, 1970s to Today – through May – Exhibit allows kids to see and experience what their parents played with as children. Take a step back in time with favorite childhood toys and games.

Village of Yesteryear – Guided tours Tuesday through Sunday, May 1-Sept. 30 at 1:30 pm, or by appointment – Knowledgeable tour guides lead you through this pioneer village laid out similar to the center of Owatonna and its Central Park, which was originally circular. The Village is a full campus with 19 historic structures and the newly-added History Center. Village admission: $5 adults, $3 children ages 7-16, free for ages six and under. Group rates available.
