JOSH FROST AND WORLD WAR II VETERANS
LINDERMAN AWARDJOSH FROST
Tie-down roper, bull rider and steer wrestler Josh Frost is no stranger to the PRCA Linderman Award and has won three in succession. The prestigious award recognizes the cowboy who has won at least $1,000 in three events. Those events must include at least one roughstock and one timed-event.
This past season, Frost, from Randlett, Utah, earned $228,557 in bull riding, $4,037 in tie-down roping and $1,091 in the steer wrestling. Qualifying and earning the award is something Frost takes very seriously.
“It’s a great honor and was one of my goals starting out the 2022 season,” says Frost, a three-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo quali er. “Being as committed as I am to winning a gold buckle in bull riding, it really adds some challenges, but I take a lot of pride in the award.”
Frost is the second member of his family to capture the distinguished Linderman Award. His older brother, Joe, 27, received the award in 2014. The true cowboy grit behind the award makes it special.
“The cowboy legacy that goes with the award is what really drew me in and I enter all three events for that reason,” Frost says. “If they didn’t have the Linderman Award, I probably wouldn’t enter the steer wrestling. That third event really adds a challenge to it. I take a lot of pride in that award to have my name on the list with all the other great cowboys who have won it.”
Frost believes the award is gaining a renewed popularity and earning it will get more di cult in the coming years because other competitors are out there gunning for the award. Kyle Whitaker holds the PRCA record for most Linderman Awards won with 10.

NFR MILITARY HONORS PRESENTED BY BOOT BARN BILL FEDDERSEN
When Bill Feddersen, a World War II veteran, walks onto the fabled Thomas & Mack Center dirt this evening for the NFR Military Honors presented by Boot Barn, he will be in somewhat familiar territory.
In 1959, he was the rst bronc rider in the rst-ever National Finals Rodeo. It’s a memory that has stuck with him, for good reason.
“It’s the best thing in the world to be among the top 15 and qualify for the NFR,” Feddersen says. “I remember coming out of the chute like it was yesterday and thinking I could ride Old Jake in a paper suit and never tear that suit. I felt like Columbus discovering America. I started the rst NFR and that was an honor.”
His rodeo highlight was winning the saddle bronc riding at a 1960 rodeo held at the Los Angeles Coliseum in front of 75,000 people.
Looking back, Feddersen is thankful for his time in the Army and wishes each young person could experience it.
“The best thing about serving in the Army was I made it out alive,” Feddersen says. “These days, I think each kid should have to go through basic training and learn some lessons, including how to say, ‘yes sir and no sir and yes ma’am and no ma’am.’”

HENRY “ROBBY” ROBINSON, JR.
Army private rst class Henry “Robby” Robinson, Jr. has been an eyewitness to some of the most historic moments in world history. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, served as a guard during the Nuremburg Trials, and was a soldier under General Patton’s command. Robinson also helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp.
Robinson served as a scout for the 11th Armored Division, 22nd Tank Battalion and spent a lot of time behind enemy battle lines. There were 22 scouts at one point, but Robinson was one of only four to survive.
Robinson has been an actor, a city council person, an electrical contractor and more during an interesting life. He is still spry and active, some seven decades after his service.
“People ask me all the time, ‘What's your secret to getting older?’, and I always tell them that it has to do with your attitude and to always make sure that you have something to do and always make a plan,” says Robinson.
Robinson, who was once part of the volunteer mounted patrol in San Dimas, Calif., admires the men and women competing in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
“I have always followed the NFR and I know how di cult it is to get to this point,” Robinson says. “I have a great deal of respect for those competitors that make it.”
