SAHVIN

An explosion shook the whole building, and I awoke to chaos. The barracks guards came running from their rooms at the four corners of the men’s barracks, pulling up their clothes, and with weapons drawn. Someone turned on the overhead lights as we started rousing from our bunks. We didn’t have to dress. Slaves only got one set of clothes and one pair of shoes.

Not knowing what might happen, next, I pulled on my boots. Suddenly, both the front and back doors of the barracks crashed open, and four armored beings stormed in and took out the guards. I thought we were next, but one of the beings receded his helmet and spoke in a calm even voice. Except I didn’t understand a word, he said. By then my friend Bill was up. I waited until he stopped talking, then asked “Bill, who is that and what did he say?”

“They are Farseek Mercenaries, looking for people from their world. There are quite a few of them here, but they also said they will take all of us slaves with them.”

“As slaves?” I wondered.

“No, as free people. They can’t promise they will get us back to our homeworlds, but we will be free to make new lives for ourselves.”

“Thank the Gods,” I said gripping his arms as he grasped mine. “We’re going to be all right.”

“I sure hope they have some decent food,” Bill said. “Look at me, I’m wasting away to nothing.”

I just grinned at him. He was a big guy and more than a little overweight when we arrived on this gods-forsaken planet called Breskaa. His excess body fat probably helped sustain him through our ordeal. He was now at an ideal weight for his body type.

I had lost weight, but my species has a slower metabolism, and our bodies are better at regulating our weight than homo sapiens.

“He said pack up our stuff as quickly as possible then he will lead us to the shuttles that will take us up to their ship.”

“That won’t take long. We are wearing practically all we own,” I said. “All I have to do is put on my jacket.”

We had to wait about an hour while the Farseekans secured the area around the barracks, then we were loaded into a troop shuttle to go up to their starship orbiting the planet. I didn’t know where they were taking us, but anywhere was better than here. But I am getting ahead of the sequence of events that brought us here.

I am Sahvin Kazza, a feline humanoid from Narova. I was stationed on Earth as an operative for the United Galactic Alliance of Planets Law Enforcement. I was off our base there on reconnaissance at a tavern where we suspected Tenzari agents were kidnapping Earthers to sell into slavery. I was disguised as a homo sapien, wearing contact lenses to cover my feline eyes and my blue hair had been dyed a dark brown.

Walking back to the lot where my assigned vehicle was parked a dark SUV with tinted windows pulled up beside me and asked where the visitor lot was for a business I did not know. When I stepped a little closer to tell them to ask at a nearby restaurant, they shot me with a stunner, and the next thing I remembered was waking up on a starship strapped to a bunk. Wearing only a thin pair of shorts and a shirt.

I knew immediately I was on a slave ship; I had been stolen from Earth to become a slave. But by whom? This wasn’t a Tenzari

vessel. The language printed on the signs that I could see was a language I didn’t recognize. I am a trained agent with seven years’ experience, but I was going off duty and heading back to my dwelling. The car driver looked like an ordinary human. I had no reason to suspect any harm from him. I only turned my attention away for a second to point out the local café when I was zapped. I was armed with my own similar weapon at the time.

Now I had nothing but the clothes on my body and a horrible headache. There were many bunks like mine in the room with other males strapped to them. Some were homo sapiens, and others were of humanoid species I did not recognize.

As I heard them talking, I realized I couldn’t understand any but the English speaking humans. There was pain behind my right ear that felt like a foreign body was embedded there. It vibrated whenever people spoke which led me to believe it was a somewhat primitive translator. It took a few days to find someone to tell the beings who now ruled us that my device didn’t work and was causing me pain. His name was Bill Waters. He was an automobile mechanic from a town not far from our secret Earth base. He has become a good friend, probably because he was one of the few people whose language I could understand.

They took me to a med bay and strapped me down to a table.

Without applying any painkiller, the medic made a small incision with a laser and pulled it out. It hurt enough that it brought tears to my eyes and a few muttered curses out of my mouth. They sealed the wound with liquid skin sealer, but the pain lingered for a few hours. It was healed by the time we reached some planet in a sector outside of Alliance Space. I never had been so far from my world, and I was losing hope of ever getting back. That was only the beginning of my descent into despair.

Being sold in the group with my human friend whose translator did work was the only positive event in my situation. My group had the misfortune to be sent to a mining colony on a remote planet. It was a dark, dirty place to work. They worked us hard and fed us

with the lowest grade food they had. We hardly ever saw the light of day. We left the barracks before dawn and returned after sunset. There were no days off and no time on the surface in daylight.

I was partnered with my human friend who translated their orders to me. I slowly learned some of their language, but not enough to understand when they spoke fast. They knew I could not understand, but they used my hesitation as an excuse to whip or beat me. More than once they punched me until I fell down and then kicked me until I thought I would die.

The first few times, I fought back. I was trained in martial arts and pretty good at hand to hand combat. But there was no winning against them. When I fought them, more guards came and used a stunner. Then they threw me into a hole for three days with no food and minimal water. When I was pulled out, almost too weak to stand I was beaten unconscious.

Bill thought I was dead when he came back to the barracks and found me on my bunk barely conscious. I opened my eyes when he put his fingers to my throat to check for a pulse and startled him.

“Oh my God, Sahvin! You scared the shit out of me. I was sure you were dead.”

“Not yet, but I am starting to wish for it,” I muttered. “Why fight to live when all we have ahead of us is more misery? When we die, they will just get more like us to take our places. Death may be our only way out.”

“You don’t know that Sahvin,” Bill said patting my shoulder. “There’s gotta be a way out. These people are going around from planet to planet stealing people, someone’s going to figure out who they are and come after them.”

“Before or after they work us to death or kill us for entertainment?” I said.

“Well, if you just lay there and die, you’re never going to find out, are you?” he pointed out. “Come on, Sahvin. You’re the only comic

relief I have in here. Pull yourself together. Here, I brought you some protein bars. Eat. It’ll help you heal.”

I sat up slowly on my bunk and took the offered bars. He had pilfered two extra, so I could eat. “Thanks,” I told him. I ate them slowly as it was hard to chew when my jaws were both sore from punches. They had little flavor, but they had some nutritional value.

The next day they sent me back to the mine to work even though I could still barely stand. Bill took my pick and shovel job and let me push the ore cart because it gave me something to hold on to. I lost track of how many days until I had mostly healed.

Days turned into months, and we all thought we would die in those horrible mines. If we even stopped to catch our breath after moving a heavy load, they would beat us with a short wire whip. Some of the other humanoids were not as strong as Bill and me. They just dropped dead when the guards tried to make them keep working by whipping them.

SAHVIN

Everything changed in the middle of one dark starless night when we were awakened by the sound of explosions and weapons fire. The mine camp was attacked, and we all thought we were going to die. But the only the guards were attacked and killed.

That’s when Commanded General Maktu came and announced that they were there to free us. There was still weapons fire in the background as the shuttle arrived for us to embark, but the Farseek warriors stood guard on either side of the short stretch of ground between the barracks and the open hatchway to the shuttle. It was standing room only, but we were all thrilled to be getting out of that hell hole.

Twenty minutes later, we were debarking on one of four dreadnaughts of the Farseek fleet that had come to rescue us. Then they took us into what was apparently the cargo hold to be checked in by four beautiful Earth females. That’s when I scented her.

I had thought it was the best day of my life when Bill told me that Commander Maktu was there to free us. When I scented her, my meomee or soulmate, I knew it.

“Bill, my meomee is here!” I said as we stood in line to be registered.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Oh, I am sure. I scent her. She is one of those women,” I told him. “I can hardly believe it.”

“You can smell her through the stench in here?”

“Of course, I am feline,” I said, smiling. “I must get closer.”

Suddenly the hopelessness and chronic fatigue that had plagued me through the months of long grueling days and short nights with too little sleep faded away. I had thought I would die in that horrible place, and then I scented her. At first, I couldn’t tell which one she was. It didn’t matter because they were all beautiful and seemed to really care about us.

I didn’t want to push ahead of the others, but it needed to know which of these magnificent females was mine. I wormed my way through the others until I was near the head of the line. The female with the short reddish hair and luscious curves looked up and met my gaze. I knew she was the one.

I waited to approach until she finished speaking to the man she was interviewing.

“Meomee, you are a long way from Earth,” I said and extended my hand to her. She gave me a stunned look as she took my offered hand.

“I am,” she smiled up at me and I felt my cock stir just looking at her and holding her hand. “And who are you? You don’t look exactly human. How is it that you speak English?”

“My name is Sahvin Kazza. I am a feline humanoid, and you are my soulmate.” I told her wondrously.

“Oh!” she drawled as the pheromones I exuded hit her right to her core. “I-I am Nora Reed.”

All I could do was stare into her beautiful green and gold eyes. “Is there somewhere we can go to talk? I need to explain what’s happening.”

“But I have a job to do here,” she protested.

“The pheromones are too potent. You won’t be able to function normally now that we have connected. We must mate very soon,” I told her.

She looked at me like I was speaking a different language. “Mate? But we just met. I don’t know you from anyone, and you want to mate? I don’t think so.” She pulled her hand from mine.

In my excitement, I broke protocol with the human female. I should not have touched her without telling her first what would happen---especially an Earth female human.

I knew better, but I was too elated on top of being rescued to think about anything but claiming her. Earth humans had different criteria for mating. Even so, by exposing her to the pheromones, I gave her no choice as to whether she wanted me as a mate. We could both die if she didn’t.

“What do you know about Earth?” demanded one of the other women. “Do you know where it is?”

“I do, but not how to get there from here.”

In my excited state, I don’t remember all that was said. Her friends pulled her away for a moment to speak in secret, and Nora kept looking at me with an expression between fear and longing. She did not know me yet so I could understand her reluctance. I had waited all my life to find her, I could wait a little longer to make her mine.

Had I met Nora on Earth before my months as a slave in the mines of Breskaa, I probably would have followed protocol. But my soul had known such despair in my months on Breskaa, I was like a man hanging on a cliff grasping for the hand of the one person who could save me.

I am a Narovian feline. We are an ancient race, at least as old as homo sapiens. It is not known if we originated on Narova or if our kind were seeded there. But as long as there have been felines and humans living on Narova they have interbred, long before we ever became spacefaring.

We have been spacefaring for about a thousand years. The United Galactic Alliance of Planets is even older than that. The Alliance had been watching over Earth for over four hundred years, trying to protect them from alien slavers. We built a secret base in the mountains of West Virginia on Earth before the pilgrims came over on the Mayflower.

Feline humanoids have been serving there for all that time and have mated with Earth humans all that time. Most matings between humans and feline result in offspring that appear to be purely human. With over four hundred years of fraternization, many Earth humans are genetic soulmates of felines.

Since Earth scientists have mapped the human genome and genealogy companies have started offering DNA tests to find out ancestral origins, it has become easier for us to find human soulmates from Earth. The Narovian Matchmaking Service had tapped into the DNA database to find those humans who are the soulmates of felines.

The cost for the service on Narova is low, but the cost for a search through Earth databases is almost a month’s pay for an Alliance Law Enforcer. I paid for the service several years ago, and no mate was ever found on Narova or Earth. I had transferred to the Earth base hoping to find my soulmate by chance.

Instead, I am kidnapped by alien slavers of a race I had never seen before.

While there is no law regarding proper mating procedures for feline, it is our custom to allow the soulmate to decide whether to accept a feline meomee before meeting in person. This is how the Matchmaking service operates.

When a feline humanoid meets their meomee, they give off potent pheromones and hormones that are irresistible to the meomee. They cause intense sexual arousal, driving them to mate within hours of meeting. Sometimes immediately.

Sometimes, they can avoid the reaction if they don’t touch, but sometimes just being in the same room will touch off the response. I can tell myself that happen with Nora, but I will never know for sure. By taking her hand, I denied her the only chance she might have had to decline my claiming her and becoming my mate for the rest of our lives.

I didn’t think about it until later. That day I had worked until I almost collapsed from exhaustion. We each got protein bars and a cup of water before we fell into our bunks. Then we thought we were going to be killed when the mercenaries came to rescue us.

In those few hours, my emotions had gone from despondency to hope and then elation. After all that had happened in just a few hours, and I was not capable of risking the loss of the one person who could make me whole again.

It didn’t surprise me that Nora refused me outright when I told her she was meomee and asked her to mate. Sapiens don’t believe in soul mating as we do. But I knew the pheromones would soon affect her, and she would want to drag me off to mate in a matter of time. Meanwhile, I stood off to the side watching her with my hands clasped in front of me to hide my visible erection. The pheromones she’d stoked in me affected me as much as her.

Within minutes I could see she was distracted. She looked across the room at me and crossed her arms over her breasts, discreetly rubbing them. She glared at me, and her friends gathered around her, and she looked a little distraught. Each of them looked at me and smiled, and I wondered what they were telling her. Finally, they went back to interviewing, and Nora reluctantly approached me.

I understood and sympathized with her discomfort because I was growing more uncomfortable as the minutes passed as well. Nothing would ease the intensity of my arousal except mating with her. Pleasuring myself would not help.

With all of this going on, I am ashamed to say forgot about my friend Bill. For a time, I forgot everything except my desire for Nora.

NORA

I am Nora Reed from Earth. I was abducted from there by alien slavers which is still hard to believe even as I write it. A nurse by profession, I lived on the edge of our small southern Ohio town where the rural delivery mail route begins. I stopped my car at the end of the drive and got out to pull any mail out of my box, and a dark SUV pulled up beside me. The middle-aged man rolled down his window and zapped me with some kind of stun gun.

The next thing I knew I was waking up in a large room filled with bunk beds three high strapped to one. My own clothes were gone, and I was wearing a dress made diaphanous material under which I was naked. I felt like I had a bad hangover, and there was a spot behind my ear that was sore. Shortly after I woke, a being that looked like a catfish with arms and legs came in and told us we were no longer on Earth and were slaves of the Sargus Empire.

Now I’m not usually a crier, but I just burst into tears like many of the other women. How could this happen? I always thought those alien abduction stories were a load of crap. But there I was.

After the fish guy left the room, the straps holding me fastened to the bunk were released automatically. I sat up and looked around me. All of us seemed relatively humanoid, but we were clearly not the same species. I saw three other humans nearby who looked like

they were from Earth. The rest even those that looked human had peculiar colored skin and wildly bright colored hair. Teal seemed to be a recurring color, neon yellow, purple, orange and blue. Skin colors varied and some of the females had ridged foreheads, and some were light purple and bald.

There was one pretty little alien that was telling us all, “Don’t worry. My father is governor of Halor, and he will send someone to rescue us. This lot has taken the wrong female.”

I hoped that was true. But even if it were, would they take us back to Earth?

I climbed down from my bunk and padded over to two of the women who looked like they were from Earth. They seemed as disoriented and disheveled as I felt. I introduced myself, and they told me their names, too. There was Scarlet Andrews, a tall blond with short cropped hair, Harper Avery, almost as tall with longer blondish hair, then Zoe Addison about my height with medium length black hair.

We decided we were either on some sci-fi movie set or these were for real aliens. They looked pretty real to me. Even with the evidence right in front of us, we found it hard to believe it was really happening. We each had a story remarkably similar. We’d all been grabbed off the street going about our daily routine. They took me with my car still running in the driveway. I wondered how long before it quit or someone noticed I was gone.

I don’t know how long before we got to the planet where we would be sold. It was at least a few weeks, and that was an ordeal in itself. We were stuck in one large room with bunks the only furniture. Twice a day an auto-cart brought food in the form of hard biscuits. Scarlet said they tasted like the dog biscuits you buy in the bulk food department. They were dry and bland, but we ate them because that’s all they gave us with bottles of water to wash them down.

It was probably just as well. We only had four toilets between at least one hundred of us. There was little for us to do to pass the

time but tell stories. By the time we shuttled down to that world where we were going to be auctioned off, the four of us from Earth had shared our life stories. Sometimes we speculated about what was going to happen to us.

It didn’t make sense they would kidnap us to be working slaves when they had the technology to go between star systems. Of the four of us, my profession was probably the most technical, but undoubtedly their practice of medicine was far in advance of ours. Kyanna Evzen of Halor told us that the Sargans used slaves for all types of manual labor as well as entertainment and breeding more slaves.

It sure didn’t sound good. The journey seemed endless, but we had developed a daily routine and social structure. I was amazed to find that most of the females of the other humanoid species were reared in families, not unlike ours. Sure, they had different social customs, and some had different marital practices. Some were matrilineal, and some were patrilineal. Sexual practices varied where courting was initiated by the female instead of the male. One species practiced group marriage with multiple males and females.

We knew the game was over when we landed. They made us all get naked and put us through a mass washing system sorta like a car wash. Then they gave us back the filmy sack dresses to wear then took us to this building and lined us up.

Shortly after that, all hell broke loose. We could hear weapons fire and there was a small explosion. A few minutes later this big robot came strolling into the corridor where we were waiting for the auction to start. He stopped in front of Harper and then his helmet folded into itself and revealed a big gorgeous man under there.

He seemed kind of stunned as he looked at Harper, then seemed to mentally shake himself before he called for Kyanna Evzen. She was telling the truth. Her father had sent Commander Zared Maktu and his mercenaries to rescue her and her friend, but he said that we could come too if we wanted to be free. Damn, right we did!

It was cold walking outside with no shoes and no coat or even real clothes. But no one was complaining as the hot commander led us to a shuttle. There was only seating for about twenty-five, and there were a hundred of us. Most of us ended up sitting on the floor in the cargo hold, but we were damn glad to get away from the slavers.

Accommodations on their warship, I heard later it was called a dreadnaught, were not as good as the slaver’s bunk room, but we didn’t care. We were so relieved not to be sold into slavery. Soon after we arrived, a young mercenary came for Harper. Zoe, Scarlet, and I gave each other knowing looks and giggled because we knew the moment that hot commander set eyes on her that he wanted her. She looked as stunned as he was.

When she came back just after it felt like the ship took some kind of hit, she was blushing, and she looked like she had been thoroughly kissed.

“He said I am his soul mate, and he wants to court me,” she told us. “Just like that.”

“What did you say to that?” Scarlet asked.

“He didn’t give me time to say much of anything before he was kissing me,” she said, blushing.

“And of course, you beat him off,” Scarlet teased. “Does he kiss as good as he looks?”

“Way better,” Harper laughed self-consciously. “The thing was, he was dead serious. He wants me to be his mate.” She shook her head.

“So, then what happened?” Zoe asked. “Why did he bring you back?”

“We’re under attack. But he said not to worry. The people after us can’t do much real damage. We’ll lose them when we jump to FTL,” she explained. “Things just keep getting crazier. He thinks our planet is called dirt.”

We all laughed at that---but not at what she said next. Our rescuers had never heard of it and didn’t know where it was. That meant it must be far from where we were and not likely that we would be getting back there anytime soon, if ever.

The hot commander came back a few minutes later and confirmed what we had pretty much concluded. Harper broke down crying first, and the commander held her and just let her cry. The rest of us huddled together and had a good cry too.

It just kept swirling around and around in my head that we were never going home.

We were never going home.

SAHVIN

“I want to know what you did to me,” she demanded in a hushed tone. “I feel like I will go mad if I don’t fuck you right now and I don’t even know you.”

“It is not something I control,” I said quietly. “You are meomee--my soul mate and genetic complement. My body reacted to your unique scent and sent out pheromones to attract you to me. That’s why we are both so unusually aroused. I need to fuck you as well.”

I reached up to caress her face with a trembling hand. The pheromones were taking hold of me even faster than I expected. As I touched her face, she closed her eyes and sighed in pleasure. Then she put her hand over mine and held it against her cheek.

“I believe you,” she said after several long seconds. She opened her eyes and looked up into my eyes. The longer I looked at her, the more attracted I felt.

Come with me,” she whispered and took my hand, leading me from the cargo bay and down the corridor to a lift. After the lift, we went down the corridor and into a small cabin.

“If I fuck you will this stop? My nipples are throbbing, and I am wet, and I feel like I’m going to jump out of my skin if you don’t put your cock inside me right now.”

“I’m sorry, my sweet meomee, it will only ease our discomfort for a time if we mate. Then we must mate again and again. It takes about ten days of frequent mating before we will feel a more normal level of desire. Meomee is for life.”

“OMG just like Harper and Scarlet.” She sighed and stood to stare up into my face for what seemed a long time. My cock was so hard it hurt because I could scent her desire. “Then I guess we’d better get on with it.”

Nora took my hand and led me into her bedroom and her sleeping alcove. She grabbed the hem of her tunic and pulled it off over her head, freeing her beautiful full breasts. “What if we get bonded and end up hating each other?”

As she toed off her shoes, I started pulling off my shirt and getting undressed. “That never happens. We will become emotionally attuned to each other through our sexual bonding. We will come to love one another deeply and completely.”

Even then, knowing nothing other than that she was my soulmate, I felt a great tenderness for her.

When she was naked, and I was naked, she grabbed my hand and pulled me into the shower with her. “I want to fuck you bad, but you smell pretty ripe.”

“My apologies, they saw no need for us to bathe. We can mate here if you like,” I offered.

She spoke a different language, and the water started flowing. She took a sponge and held it below the soap dispenser then rubbed it in with her hand. When she turned back to look up at me, she caught her breath. “You sure are pretty---handsome.”

Nora smiled and started washing my face, being careful not to get the soap in my eyes. She paused and put my hand under a spigot that squirted soap. “You can wash your hair and I will keep washing you.”

While I soaped my hair, she washed my back from my neck all the way to my feet. She waited while I rinsed my hair then started

rubbing the sponge over my chest, and it was all I could do to stand still for her. She didn’t linger over the task until she got to my cock. She washed my groin area quickly then rubbed her cheek against my cock. I stood like that for seconds before I gripped her by her upper arms and hauled her to her feet.

Our eyes locked and I pressed her against the wall. “Yes, do me now. I need you,” she murmured then said a command in that other language and the flowing water turned to mist. I looked into her eyes for a moment longer and then down at her breasts and her peaked nipples.

Although I longed to explore her sweet body, our need to mate was too strong. She looked as uncomfortable as I felt and mating was the only way to quell it.

I lifted her up and slid my rock-hard cock into her slick channel. It was a deliciously tight fit, and we both groaned in pure pleasure and relief as I filled her. I balanced her against the wall, and she wrapped her arms and legs around me, staring into my eyes.

I saw that her need was as great as mine and I wanted nothing more than to please her. It felt just as my friend had described it--like coming home for the first time. This beautiful woman was my mate, and now I understood why sex with anyone else was hardly better than my own hand.

I could see my future in her eyes, and then I kissed her and pressed into her, so my flesh rubbed her core. I was shaking as I slipped my tongue into her mouth and claimed her with my tongue as I claimed her with my cock. I thrust in and out of her and felt her fingers dig into my shoulders. She rubbed her taut nipples over my chest with each thrust.

“Fuck me hard,” she pleaded. I was already slamming into her, driving us both steadily toward our first orgasm. Wanting to please I pounded into her harder until we came with a mutual howling of pleasure. Wave after wave sensual pleasure shook us as she pulsed around my cock and my cock pulsed and poured my seed inside her.

She crooned and moaned in ecstasy. She felt so good wrapped around me hugging and caressing and kissing me.

That initial satisfaction was short-lived. Despite the breathtaking first orgasm, my cock didn’t seem to wain one bit. I stayed inside her holding her against the wall, kissing her sweet mouth, her face, her neck and finally her breasts. As I sucked one pebbled tip, her inner walls contracted rhythmically around my cock. It happened when I sucked on the other one as well.

All while I pleasured her, Nora made soft sounds of enjoyment. Then I thrust into her a few times, and she had another orgasm hugging me and writhing against me. The sound of her whispering my name over and over as she kissed and caressed me seemed to go straight to my heart. This was meomee!

The misting stopped, and warm air dried us. Still, inside her, I carried her to her bed and fell into it with her beneath me. I held my full weight off her so she could breathe and stared into her solemn green and gold eyes. It seemed hardly possible, but I felt a rush of love for her. I knew it was the combination of pheromones and hormones, but I also knew this woman was mine.

“I am yours, and you are mine,” I whispered the ancient mating pledge to her.

She smiled at me and said it back, “I am yours, and you are mine… Now fuck me some more, meomee.”

So, I did. I was home, wrapped in the warmth of this beautiful woman after the hell of those months in that mining camp. I should still have been exhausted from what I had endured on Breskaa. But I became energized the moment I scented her. Even though we both came multiple times, I couldn’t bear to take my cock from her warmth. We stayed that way for hours. Sometimes I took her hard and fast and then I took her so slowly that she begged me to stop teasing her.

Finally, we were both exhausted, and we fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms. I had never felt such bliss in my whole life.

She is mine echoed through my mind like a litany even as I slept with her warm body against mine.

NORA

Since this account will be combined with Harper’s and Scarlet’s, I am going to skip over much that happened during the period between when we were rescued, and I mated with Sahvin.

Until we delivered Kyanna Evzen back to Halor, I spent most of the time in the conference room with Zoe and the other females rescued with us. With Harper and Scarlet mated to officers of the dreadnaught and planning to stay with them, Zoe and I had felt that staying was our only choice as well. It was doubtful that we would ever get back to Earth. By then the four of us were like sisters.

The only place I would ever want to go without them would be back to Earth. I had a good life there, and I loved being a nurse. I was set to go on and become a nurse practitioner, but abduction by aliens changed all that. I was sad for the loss my parents would feel not knowing what happened to me. But there was nothing I could do about it. They would know by the way things were left that I was taken by someone.

Within hours of receiving my new language implant, I no longer had that soreness behind my ear. As my new languages skills evolved, I connected with the ship’s AI and started educating myself about this new reality that was becoming my life. We quickly learned

there was a lot of downtime between missions and I was used to working.

I learned that many of their medical procedures were performed by AI controlled biogenic nanites and gene therapies. Medics were technicians rather than physicians. The level of technology used made my training obsolete. But I was young, and I could learn. So, I studied every chance I got. Then we started training as recruits for the mercenaries as support staff, except for Scarlet who had been a soldier on Earth.

After Halor we were assigned private quarters, and I finally got to sleep in a bed again. I was deeply grateful for the privacy once I hooked up with Sahvin. Hooking up with any man was so not like me. I had a few relationships before him, but I never found the right guy.

I was never into casual sex. So, when I became so aroused after touching Sahvin, I knew something extraordinary was happening. His exotic green cat eyes just made him more attractive. He was at least six feet tall with a ripped muscular body, and dark blue hair smelled awful.

But so, did most of the men rescued from the mining camp. Their clothes were rags and filthy, and their skin looked gray from the dust in the mines. His longish hair was stringy and laden with dirt. Even under all that he was adorable.

I tried to go back to my duties after meeting him, but my nipples instantly peaked, my pussy kept clenching and my clit throbbed for attention. I kept looking at Sahvin standing off to the side with his hands strategically crossed over his package. If his cock felt like my clit, he was every bit as uncomfortable as I was.

I hurried over to Scarlet. “Honey, I’m sorry, I have to get out of here. That hot, hunky cat man just cast a spell over me. If I don’t have my way with him very soon, I’m going to jump out of my skin.”

“Don’t worry, Zoe and I can handle it. You only have four more people in your line.” She smiled at me. “Pyrr is going to be down on

the planet for quite a while. We’ll get these people settled.”

“Gosh, Sahvin,” I said as I set a plate of food in front of him on the little table in our quarters. “How is it that we fucked for hours and I still feel like I want to rub myself all over you.”

“It’s biological,” he said and picked up the pronged spoon to take a bite of food. “Pheromones and hormones drive us to mate and the endorphins released during mating release more pheromones and hormones that keep us mating repeatedly.”

“I feel like a cat in heat,” I said. “I missed third meal yesterday, and I am famished, but this constant arousal makes it hard to concentrate on anything but our next romp in the bedroom.”

“Believe me, I understand,” Sahvin said. “This food is wonderful, and I feel the same way. It is why in my culture we are automatically given seven to ten days off duty when we declare meomee.”

“That’s how we bond? Just keep having sex?” I said trying to wrap my head around it. “Not that it’s a bad thing. I’m getting fond of being in your arms with you inside me. I have never been this attracted to anyone in my life.

“It is the same for me, Nora,” he said with a sexy grin. “Bonding is both sexual and emotional. We mate then we talk. We talk while we are mating. We eat together, bath together, and mate some more. It has always been our way.”

“I guess it sort of works that way for the Farseekers. But, it’s nowhere near this intense.”

“You’re telling me,” I said, “even with clothes on sitting here eating with you, you still turn me on.”

I had gone down to get food from the mess hall. Sahvin’s clothes were beyond hope, so I also stopped at stores to pick up their equivalent of fatigues for him. I guessed right on the size.

This history, taking in such a variety of facts and opinions, has grown under my hand; especially as in writing I cannot avoid entering into some desultory disquisitions, and descriptions of manners and things which, though not strictly necessary to elucidate the events, are intimately connected with the main object; I have also been led into several theoretical investigations, whilst marking the political effects that naturally flow from the progress of knowledge. It is probable, therefore, that this work will be extended to two or three more volumes, a considerable part of which is already written.

PREFACE.

The revolution in France exhibits a scene, in the political world, not less novel and interesting than the contrast is striking between the narrow opinions of superstition, and the enlightened sentiments of masculine and improved philosophy.

To mark the prominent features of this revolution, requires a mind, not only unsophisticated by old prejudices, and the inveterate habits of degeneracy; but an amelioration of temper, produced by the exercise of the most enlarged principles of humanity.

The rapid changes, the violent, the base, and nefarious assassinations, which have clouded the vivid prospect that began to spread a ray of joy and gladness over the gloomy horizon of oppression, cannot fail to chill the sympathizing bosom, and palsy intellectual vigour. To sketch these vicissitudes is a task so arduous and melancholy, that, with a heart trembling to the touches of nature, it becomes necessary to guard against the erroneous inferences of sensibility; and reason beaming on the grand theatre of political changes, can prove the only sure guide to direct us to a favourable or just conclusion.

This important conclusion, involving the happiness and exaltation of the human character, demands serious and mature consideration; as it must ultimately sink the dignity of society into contempt, and its members into greater wretchedness; or elevate it to a degree of grandeur not hitherto anticipated, but by the most enlightened statesmen and philosophers.

Contemplating then these stupendous events with the cool eye of observation, the judgement, difficult to be preserved unwarped under the pressure of the calamitous horrours produced by desperate and enraged factions, will continually perceive that it is the uncontaminated mass of the french nation, whose minds begin to

grasp the sentiments of freedom, that has secured the equilibrium of the state; often tottering on the brink of annihilation; in spite of the folly, selfishness, madness, treachery, and more fatal mock patriotism, the common result of depraved manners, the concomitant of that servility and voluptuousness which for so long a space of time has embruted the higher orders of this celebrated nation.

By thus attending to circumstances, we shall be able to discern clearly that the revolution was neither produced by the abilities or intrigues of a few individuals; nor was the effect of sudden and shortlived enthusiasm; but the natural consequence of intellectual improvement, gradually proceeding to perfection in the advancement of communities, from a state of barbarism to that of polished society, till now arrived at the point when sincerity of principles seems to be hastening the overthrow of the tremendous empire of superstition and hypocrisy, erected upon the ruins of gothic brutality and ignorance.

AN HISTORICAL AND MORAL VIEW OF THE

FRENCH REVOLUTION.

CHAPTER I.

INTRODUCTION. PROGRESS OF SOCIETY. END OF GOVERNMENT. RISE OF POLITICAL DISCUSSION AMONGST THE FRENCH.

REVOLUTION IN AMERICA. VIRTUE ATTEMPTED TO BE BUILT ON FALSE PRINCIPLES. THE CROISADES, AND THE AGE OF CHIVALRY.

ADMINISTRATION OF RICHELIEU, AND OF CARDINAL MAZARIN.

THEATRICAL ENTERTAINMENTS, AND DRAMATIC POETS OF THE FRENCH,—MOLIERE,—CORNEILLE,—RACINE. LOUIS XIV. THE REGENCY. LOUIS XV.

When we contemplate the infancy of man, his gradual advance towards maturity, his miserable weakness as a solitary being, and the crudeness of his first notions respecting the nature of civil society, it will not appear extraordinary, that the acquirement of political knowledge has been so extremely slow; or that public happiness has not been more rapidly and generally diffused.

The perfection attained by the ancients, it is true, has ever afforded the imagination of the poetical historian a theme to deck with the choicest flowers of rhetoric; though the cool investigation of facts seems clearly to prove, that the civilization of the world, hitherto, has consisted rather in cultivating the taste, than in exercising the understanding. And were not these vaunted improvements also confined to a small corner of the globe, whilst, the political view of the wisest legislators seldom extending beyond the splendour and aggrandizement of their individual nation, they trampled with a ferocious affectation of patriotism on the most sacred rights of humanity? When the arts flourished in Greece, and literature began

to shed it’s blandishments on society, the world was mostly inhabited by barbarians, who waged eternal war with their more polished neighbours, the imperfection of whose government sapping it’s foundation, the science of politics necessarily received a check in the bud—and when we find, likewise, the roman empire crumbling into atoms, from the germ of a deadly malady implanted in it’s vitals; whilst voluptuousness stopped the progress of civilization, which makes the perfection of the arts the dawn of science; we shall be convinced, that it demanded ages of improving reason and experience in moral philosophy, to clear away the rubbish, and exhibit the first principles of social order.

We have probably derived our great superiority over those nations from the discovery of the polar attraction of the needle, the perfection which astronomy and mathematics have attained, and the fortunate invention of printing. For, whilst the revival of letters has added the collected wisdom of antiquity to the improvements of modern research, the latter most useful art has rapidly multiplied copies of the productions of genius and compilations of learning, bringing them within the reach of all ranks of men: the scientific discoveries also have not only led us to new worlds; but, facilitating the communication between different nations, the friction of arts and commerce have given to society the transcendently pleasing polish of urbanity; and thus, by a gradual softening of manners, the complexion of social life has been completely changed. But the remains of superstition, and the unnatural distinction of privileged classes, which had their origin in barbarous folly, still fettered the opinions of man, and sullied his native dignity; till several distinguished english writers discussed political subjects with the energy of men, who began to feel their strength; and, whilst only a rumour of these sentiments roused the attention and exercised the minds of some men of letters in France, a number of staunch disputants, who had more thoroughly digested them, fled from oppression, to put them to the test of experience in America.

Locke, following the track of these bold thinkers, recommended in a more methodical manner religious toleration, and analyzed the principles of civil liberty: for in his definition of liberty we find the elements of The Declaration of the Rights of Man, which, in spite of

the fatal errours of ignorance, and the perverse obstinacy of selfishness, is now converting sublime theories into practical truths.

The revolution, it is true, soon introduced the corruption, that has ever since been corroding british freedom.—Still, when the rest of Europe groaned under the weight of the most unjust and cruel laws, the life and property of englishmen were comparatively safe; and, if an impress-warrant respected the distinction of ranks, when the glory of England was at stake, splendid victories hid this flaw in the best existing constitution; and all exultingly recollected, that the life or liberty of a man never depended on the will of an individual.

Englishmen were then, with reason, proud of their constitution; and, if this noble pride have degenerated into arrogance, when the cause became less conspicuous, it is only a venial lapse of human nature; to be lamented merely as it stops the progress of civilization, and leads the people to imagine, that their ancestors have done every thing possible to secure the happiness of society, and meliorate the condition of man, because they have done much.

When learning was confined to a small number of the citizens of a state, and the investigation of it’s privileges was left to a number still smaller, governments seem to have acted, as if the people were formed only for them; and, ingeniously confounding their rights with metaphysical jargon, the luxurious grandeur of individuals has been supported by the misery of the bulk of their fellow creatures, and ambition gorged by the butchery of millions of innocent victims.

The most artful chain of despotism has ever been supported by false notions of duty, enforced by those who were to profit by the cheat. Thus has the liberty of man been restrained; and the spontaneous flow of his feelings, which would have fertilized his mind, being choked at the source, he is rendered in the same degree unhappy as he is made unnatural. Yet, certain opinions, planted by superstition and despotism, hand in hand, have taken such deep root in our habits of thinking, it may appear daringly licentious, as well as presumptuous, to observe, that what is often termed virtue, is only want of courage to throw off prejudices, and follow the inclinations which fear not the eye of heaven, though they shrink from censure not founded on the natural principles of morality. But at no period has the scanty diffusion of knowledge permitted the body of the people to participate in the discussion of political science; and if
