I have so many folks that I want to thank for seeing me through this. My husband, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting up with my crazy hours and letting run ideas with you. I know you must think I am losing my mind from time to time but you never stop supporting me. To my Princess and my Angel, I can’t tell you how much your smiles and laughter are one of the main reasons I keep on pushing. I live to see you happy. To my fans, I love the feedback and the messages asking when the next one is coming out, just the thought that I can reach anyone with my work is so humbling and exciting.
Chapter 1
Pump,pump,pumpitup!
“That’s what I am talking about!” Clean began to shimmy next to me, apparently Joe Buddens music was his jam.
“Stop the shit! Get your head in the game, we have a job to do here.” Wire spat out.
“You’re right, I’m good.” Clean stood up straight not wanting to piss our Vice President off.
I didn’t really think that was possible, Clean was Wire’s best friend even if they had never told each other such. Wire would do anything for him and vice versa. Actually, I am sure anyone in the crew would do anything for any member. It’s why I am here today. No one messed with the Wings of Diablo, not if they wanted to live a long and healthy life.
Larry, one of our oldest members, came to the club with a problem that not many could solve. His sister was sold off like cattle to the highest bidder by Cleve, the leader of one of our rival motorcycle clubs, The Rolling Cobras.
The Cobras were as bad as they came, heavy in the drug scene, hired guns and now they were dabbling in the trafficking business. We knew as soon as Larry told us that Cleve would have to be eliminated, with fucking pleasure. There was no way we were going to let that go down. Not to Larry, not to his sister and not in this town.
“Ok, Archer, it’s your show now, where do you need to be?” Wire turned towards me. His eyes staring straight into mine. The monster that so many were afraid of so clearly about to break free.
“The higher the better, maybe up there on the second floor if we can get there.”
Cleve was well guarded, we couldn’t get to him using Wire and all his sadistic ways. Prez would never come near here as the Cobras would probably shoot him before he fully got his feet in their clubhouse, I had to be the one to take him out. I couldn’t wait.
“Hurry the fuck up!” Wire whisper-yelled at me.
“You can’t rush perfection.”
“God damn, gunnys! Just set up and take the fucking shot. We are going to be spotted at any second.”
As much as I did want to take my time and do the job smoothly, Wire was absolutely right. Intel said that there was going to be a party tonight, so we thought that would be the best time to sneak in undetected, but this wasn’t just a party. No, the Cobras were throwing a full blown goddamn event. There were hundreds of people here, the place was packed with strippers, bikers, college kids, and even fucking contortionists. Clean got a kick out of watching them bend and twist for the few seconds that we could. All of the bodies would make my job that much harder and we would be spotted by someone, we could only hope that it wouldn’t be someone who would know who we were.
“Are you ready yet?” Clean whispered from beside me. He was crouched down looking back towards the stairs that we had just come up.
“Yeah, get ready to run.” I laid down on the floor, one hand on the trigger the other folded tightly underneath, my eye open and staring down the scope of my M2010 rifle.
I exhaled and just as I was about to squeeze the trigger a tingle flew down my back.
“This is fucked, Wire, there are too many people here. The target is too motherfucking tight.” I shook my head, removing my eye from the scope.
“Archer, can you pull this off or not. We are only here because you said that you could make this shot. We don’t have time for fucking games!”
“Don’t question my damn talent, I have made this shot a hundred times over. Just never in the middle of a fucking party.” I exhaled roughly through my nose. He had no idea how easy it would be for me to make a shot like this. No idea whatsoever.
“I know you are good, so if you don’t think we should do this we got to get out of here, pronto. If we get caught on enemy territory there is no telling what they will do.”
Wire was our clubs Vice President as well as its punishment enforcer, his specialty was with barbed wire. I had heard him torture many people. He knew what would happen if we got caught here and so did I.
“So what is the deal, maybe I can sneak one of those bunnies out of here.” Clean looked across the room to one of the strippers who was in the middle of doing some truly acrobatic shit on a pole.
“Keep your dick in your pants, Clean.”
“Oh, I’ll keep it in but she might want to take it out.” He smiled a little still staring at the woman.
“Are you fucking dense, we are lying here with a motherfucking sniper rifle pointed at the President of a vicious, murderous motorcycle club and all you can think about is getting your dick wet?” I stared daggers at Clean, and by the way his jovial face fell to a somber one I could tell that he got my message. This was not a game, we were in some serious shit.
I hunkered back down into position, my eye looking through my scope again, staring straight at my target. I sucked in a deep breath to hold the rifle steady, waited until there was no one on either side of him that would walk into the way giving the bullet its needed fly time and squeezed the trigger.
“Oh shit.” Clean said at my side.
Before the ripple that crept up my arm from the recoil could finish I knew that the shot was fucked. I watched as Cleve went down as well as a petite woman who happened to be standing right behind him.
Not only did I hit my target, but the bullet sailed clean through.
Chapter 2
“Oh, what the fuck.” I vaguely heard Wire mumble.
The girl fell to the floor a good 400 meters away from where we were crouched down but I could see her clear as day. Her black hair was thick and full curls at the ends which made it look pillow soft, I could see that some large clusters of her hair are coated with a dark fluid, the blood that had splattered up from the wound in her chest. I could see her bare pink lips slightly opened, more of that blood seeping from its crevice and dripping slowly to the floor. Her face was speckled with more blood and something else that took me a moment to place. Freckles. She looked so at peace even with the intrusive dark red color marring her perfection.
“Archer, let’s go!” Wire was pulling at me. I am not sure what he wanted me to do. I just wanted to stare at the beautiful woman lying on the floor.
“We have to get out of here!” Someone pulled at me again. A strong aroma of dirt hit my nose as I could start to feel my fatigues rubbing against my skin. Hear the humvees and trucks starting up there engines to look for the sniper who just fired on their camp.
“Archer, are you fucking with us here? Wire tore my gaze from the beautiful girl laying on the floor and shook me back to the present. “We have to go, right now!”
I blinked a few times realizing that I wasn’t back with my platoon in that god forsaken country-side. I was still in the Rolling Cobra’s club house and all hell had broken out down stairs. Folks running, trying to get out of the exits as fast as they could, not caring if they trampled anyone in there efforts to be free. The members of the club were either far away or were so intoxicated no one had bothered to look for the shooter. It's the only reason we were yet to be captured.
“Move your ass man!” Clean pulled on me now.
I gathered all my gear and we hightailed it out of there.
“What the hell was that Archer?” Wire yelled at me while we sped away in my truck.
“What the fuck do you mean what the hell was that! It’s is exactly what I told you it would be, a fucking shit show.” I closed my eyes trying to get my instincts under control. I could feel my mind trying to take over, trying to take me back to the middle east, to the nightmare that was my last tour.
“Hey, are you ok?”
I focused on my breathing, doing everything that my previous therapist told me to do when I was feeling like this. None of that shit was working, especially with Wire doing 100 miles per hour down a cliff and screaming in my face at the same fucking time.
“Bro, are you good?”
Clean’s voice came to me in waves, I couldn’t focus on what he was saying even though I could hear him, but I could hear the pop of bullets that were from my past.
I closed my eyes and the face of that woman with the freckles, pillow soft hair and faded pink lips changed into a little girl. A little girl that changed my life forever.
Chapter 3
8 Years Ago- Afghanistan
“So what are you going to do when you get stateside?”
“I don’t know, I think I’m going to go back for another tour.”
“Luke, you are trying to tell me, we are three weeks from getting out of this dust bowl and you are talking about coming back?” Jameson was from Texas, with a large southern smile and an even bigger following of ladies waiting for him at home. Of course he couldn’t understand how I could want to come back, but I had no home to go to, no girlfriend, hell I didn’t even have any friends. It was just me, Luke Duos, or as my platoon mates have come to call me, Archer.
You see they call me Archer because I am a genius with any firearm, I am a spot on shot at upwards of 1600 meters. From the simple Glock 36 to the powerful .44 Magnum, from the big bad shotgun to the sleek and sexy M2010. I am a prized possession in this fabulous military. I was the best of the best, of course I wanted to stay where I was needed.
“Yeah, I mean we got a pretty sweet gig here.” I looked away from the road ahead of us and towards the setting sun. “I mean seriously, can you beat this weather?”
“Uh, Fuck yeah, I’d rather be on some caribbean island somewhere chasing the women instead of trussed up in about 20 pounds of gear staring at the back of your ugly head.”
I shook my head and looked back at my sniper rifle. It was covered in dust and the intense heat had already started to warp some of the color off the metal. Honestly, Jameson was right, this country was a hard place to live but anything was better than what I had come from.
“Archer, you seeing this?”
Mike, one of my squad that was patrolling on the ground called up.
“What do you got?” I asked, getting more comfortable in my position on the roof.
“Possible insurgent about 200 meters away.”
Jameson looked through his scope, as my spotter it was his job to see things before me. He was really good at his job too, I couldn’t have made any of my tough shots without him by my side.
“I see him, you think it’s just a protest or do you think it is an actual threat?” I asked already getting my rifle ready to fire.
“Who the hell knows man, but the folks in this village know better than to come this way.” Jameson was already laying down next to me, ready to call out any targets as they came.
“Get on the box and call it into the lieutenant.” We would get the final say from our LT. I looked through my scope, on edge, waiting for my orders. I heard Jameson call in the situation and I let out a hard breath when we got the order to shoot. If there was one thing I didn’t like to do it was to shoot among the civilians. Too many things could go wrong.
“Take him out Archer.” Jameson whispered next to me, a solemn tone now instead of the carefree one that was his norm.
“Are we sure that…”
“Damn it, don’t do this.” Jameson yelled at me under his breath, “No, I am not sure that he is indeed an insurgent, I am not sure that he means us harm, what I am sure about is that he is walking into a military safe zone when everyone in this village knows not to. LT gave the order, so take him out!”
I inhaled, let my hand go lax on the grip, set my sight on the man speed walking his way towards our position with something bulky latched to his chest. Bright flashing lights started to go off to warn the intruder that they were not were they were supposed to be. Instead of stopping the man sped up, raising his voice screaming something that no one could understand.
I set myself and squeezed the trigger softly, letting the power of the rifle riot through me. The scream that came after was unlike anything that I had heard before. It was high pitched and
frantic. A woman came barreling out of a small home toward the man that was now down on the ground and not moving.
“Shit, what is this?” Jameson asked trying to right his scope so that he could get a better picture.
I could hear the blood pumping in my ears as the woman began to unravel the large package from the man’s chest. She was going to try and finish the job.
“Take her out.” my Lieutenant's voice came over the box.
“No, she isn’t armed, we don’t have to.” I exclaimed into the air, this was turning into a shit show.
“Bro, we don’t have a choice, we have orders.” Jameson said from beside me.
This was not what I signed up for, I came here to protect my country from extremists and terrorists, not shooting down small women.
“You take her out right now before she gets any closer to us with that bomb, take the shot now!” My lieutenants voice screamed out through the box.
Thisisfucked,thisissofucked.
My training to blindly follow orders outweighed my gut instincts, if I didn’t take this shot and she made it closer to us with whatever she was trying to get untied from the dead man we could all be in a bind. On the other hand, I wasn’t sure that there was actually a bomb or anything that could hurt me or my platoon. My mind went back and forth, neurons firing fast enough to give me a migraine, trying to figure out what to do.
“Now Luke!” My Luitenant screamed out again.
“Shit!” I looked through the scope got the readings I needed from Jameson and squeezed the trigger right as the woman whipped whatever was strapped to the mans chest around to her. I watched as she went down, her limbs falling to the dirt awkwardly. A plume of dust rose from where her body fell. I strained to look through my scope to see if we were still in danger when the smallest wisp of hair flew in the wind from underneath the woman. There was another body under the woman.
“No, no, no, no!” I dropped my rifle not even waiting for orders or taking the time to put my equipment away. I stood up from my position, ignoring the ache of being on my belly for so long and took off down the stairs of the abandoned building.
“Archer, hold up!” Jameson yelled out behind me. He was my partner, he would follow me anywhere. Even if I was running straight for what everyone thought was a bomb.
I ran straight to the woman, ignoring all the horrible stares that I was getting from the townspeople. I took my side arm from its holster and gingerly turned her over, just in case. She was in the common dress, nothing extraordinary about the woman except for the gaping hole that my round tore through her chest.
“Is it a bomb?” Jameson asked a few paces behind me.
I didn’t answer, I could feel the tears begin to gather in my eyes, the frog in my throat trying to suffocate me, I could feel the cold hand of dread begin to squeeze on my heart. I looked down at the package that both the man and woman were running towards our camp and saw a small foot clad in a pink Barney slipper. I peeled the cloth away and the beautiful face of an infant child laid there covered in a mixture of dirt and blood. Her lips were blue, but everything else about her looked so warm.
“Oh god, please no.” I fell down to my knees and cradled the little girl in my arms, trying to find even the smallest sign of life. There was nothing, no heartbeat, just the slow leak of blood from the wound in her head where my bullet came out of her mother and into her. I don’t know how long I sat there with that dead child in my lap but that was my last day as an active military officer.
Chapter 4
Present Day
“You couldn’t have known.” a voice said from beside me.
“I don’t care if they were my orders, I don’t care. I killed that baby, I did it” I screamed out trying to get away from whoever was trying to pull at me.
“What baby?” Wire said softly.
“Getagripsoldier.”A voice screamed in my head.
“How can I, I did it, I did it. I killed that baby.” I banged my head into the wall trying to shake the image of that little girl bleeding from the back of my eyes but every time I closed my eyes I saw her, I couldn’t get the smell of dirt out of my nose, my hands still felt like they were sticky with her blood.
“Come on man, we got you.” Another voice floated towards me. Sounded like Clean.
I had no idea where I was or what was going on but when I felt the softness of a cot under my face it was a matter of seconds before I was out like a light.
I walked down the stairs from my room in the clubhouse, I could hear people talking over each other but I couldn’t figure out what they were talking about.
“This is bullshit, we don’t even know if the job was done!” Larry said as he walked over to the in house bar and began to drink straight from a bottle. “If it was anyone else in here, if it was one of your Ol’ladies there would be nothing stopping you! This is my fucking sister. My blood!” He pounded his chest in anger. “How the fuck can we just sit back and wait? This is some pussy shit, I thought this was supposed to be a fucking family, it feels like we just waiting on the goddamn shoe to drop and all the while it’s my fucking sister they got in their dick grabbing claws.” Larry heaved his bottle in the opposite direction, right to where I was coming down
the stairs. He caught my eyes with a death glare, “Nice fucking shot, Archer.” The sarcasm almost physically smacking me in the face. He walked away, he was mad but he wasn’t going to go off on his own.
Ok,wellIguesstheyarepissedatme.
I squared my shoulders and walked down the rest of the stairs causing everyone in the room to stop what they were doing and look at me.
“You good son?” Prez asked from his place near the doors of the church.
I nodded and began to make my way to where he was standing among the rest of the members of my club.
“That’s what I want to hear.” Prez nodded once and went back to speaking with Wire.
“What is going on?” I turned to Clean who was still looking at me like I was about to sprout a second head.
“You ok?”
I rolled my eyes and began to turn to find someone else to talk to. I had gone through this many times in the past 8 years. People tended to look at you like a maniac when you start screaming and shouting about dead babies.
“No, no, I just wanted to make sure. If you good then I’m good.” Clean grabbed my arm and turned me back towards him. “I mean the last thing I want is to get punched in the face by an ex military man, that shit looked like it hurt. A lot.” He chuckled
“What, I hit someone?” I looked around trying to see who was missing or if anyone had a shiner.
“Yeah, I am pretty sure Wire still has a killer headache.”
“Oh, what the fuck.” I started towards Wire “Brother, I am..”
Wire raised his hand before I could even finish my sentence. “Don’t worry about it, we good.” He gave me a small smile and a nod. He wasn’t holding a grudge but I still felt like shit for hitting him.
“So what’s going on, have the Cobra’s retaliated?” I asked trying to move on.
“No, that is the problem, so Prez called a lockdown.” Clean took a long swig of his drink.
No one wanted to be on lockdown, it was just like being locked up in fucking county except we didn’t have to worry about swollen men trying to ass fuck us. Most of the members of this club have been in prison before and never wanted to go back, a lockdown was almost as bad as that.
“Shit, has anyone confirmed the kill?” I asked thinking back to the shit show that was the party at the Cobra’s club house. Ohmygod,Ikilledthatwoman.
“No, no no.” I whispered to myself.
“Archer, you ok?” Clean asked lightly touching my shoulder, not wanting to set me the fuck off again.
“The woman, who was the woman, was she killed.”
“I don’t know, I couldn’t see much, after the shot most of the people just started to run around. I saw her on the floor but I didn’t see her get up.”
“I killed her.”
“You don’t know that!” Wire said from behind me
“Man are you fucking blind! I did! You were there right next to me, how can you say that I didn’t?”
“Archer, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. This isn’t your fault.”
“Who’s fault is it then? Did you pull the god damn trigger? Did you line up the shot? No, that was me. I should have listened to my gut. I should have aimed in a different location, I should have…”
“There are a million things that could have been done differently, but we have to deal with the cards we got right now, even though they are shit.” Prez said loud enough to get everyones attention. “Right now, what we are going to do is see what the blow back will be from the Cobra’s, I don’t want any of you out there caught by surprise so for the time being everyone is to stay put. Is that clear?”
“Yeah.”
“Whatever.”
“Yeah.”
Everyone gave their regretful consent, not like anyone would go against Prez, but no one liked the directive.
I walked back over to the bar and got a triple of our strongest bourbon. “Fuck this, everyone shouldn’t be trapped in here because of me.” I slammed the empty cup back on the bar, reaching over to get the bottle and pour another glass.
“Stop the shit, this has never happened before. There was no way that you would have known this was going to happen.” Mick said from behind the bar.
“If you had the training that I had, you would have known. I knew it was a fucked shot and I still took it. In the end it was my decision and it was the wrong one.” I could tell by the look on his face that I was right, “So step off with all this I couldn’t have known bullshit. I should have known, it’s my fucking job to know.” I slammed my cup down on the bar, it splintered and the sharp glass lodged into my hand and in between my fingers. I welcomed the pain.
Chapter 5
“Archer, what the fuck is your problem?”
Someone was talking to me, we had been on lockdown for almost a week now but I couldn’t remember a day of it. My days and nights were swimming with cheap bourbon. I squinted my eyes and saw who it was, “Mind your own fucking neck, Larry.” I slurred out to him as I bumped him with my shoulder walking back to the bar. Willing him to get mad. To grow a set of balls and swing.
“You’re off your shit, get yourself together.”
“You going to get me together, hmm?” I pushed Larry, slightly wobbling backwards. I focused on Larry’s face but for some reason everything kept listing slightly to the left. My legs felt heavier than I thought that they should be. Logically, I knew that I was wobbling all over the place because I was drunk, but my pride kept me from feeling I just didn’t feel like 5 days worth of non-stop drinking was enough to cause me to feel like this. I still wasn’t numb. I still couldn’t get the picture of that woman out of my head. I wondered what her voice sounded like. Was she having fun at the party or was she on her way out? Did she have a family that was waiting for her to come home? Did she make it to the hospital? Did anyone even call the ambulance?
“Fucking hit me, you pussy!” I shoved Larry again harder, wanting to feel the rush of a fight. Just one punch, maybe a bottle to the head. Maybe it would cut through agony.
“What the shit!” Larry put his hands up but that didn’t stop me from pushing him again.
“Don’t be such a fucking pussy, fight me asshole!”
“Nah man, I don’t want to fight you.”
“You think I care what you want, you are in my face so either you fight or you get knocked the fuck out. That’s your only choice.” I let my right arm drop hoping that maybe he would see the opening and take his shot but even in my completely inebriated state no one in my club would take advantage.
“Archer, just cool out.” Larry backed up a bit, still with his hands up to show he wasn’t a threat to me.
Fuck this, he needed to some persuasion. I raised my arm to throw a punch, I had no fucking coordination thanks to the liquor but once I was able to line up my fist with his face he was going to wish that he had taken the first shot, it would have been his only shot. I tried to push my hand forward but it didn’t move.
“Step off Larry.” Clean said from behind my back. He had my wrist in one hand stopping any forward momentum that my body was trying to exert.
“I swear man, I wasn’t going to hurt him.” Larry shook his head, trying to move away from the area.
“You hurt me? Are you fucking insane? I would have broken every bone in your body before you would have been able to lay a finger on me!” I screamed out. I tried to pull away from Clean and go after Larry but I wasn’t moving an inch.
“Come on brother, let’s go.” Clean turned me around and we began to walk me upstairs to my room. As soon as we walked in I could tell that this was some kind of motherfucking intervention. Wire was there, along with Keeley, his wife, and Mick, our registered OG, he was one of the first members of Wings of Diablo. Mick couldn’t ride anymore since he got his knee replacement but he would never be stripped of his patch. He was a brother for life.
“What is this shit?” I tried to turn away but ended up walking straight into Clean’s chest, again he didn’t even budge.
“Look son, we know you are going through a tough time but you can’t keep up this behaviour.”
“Yeah, Archer, we are just worried about you.” Keeley said reaching out to touch my hand.
Everything in me wanted to rip my hand out of her grasp but Keeley has been like a sister to everyone since she became Wire’s wife. I wouldn’t disrespect her that way.
“There is nothing to be worried about, I am perfect.” I said without looking at her.
“The hell you are, you go from hardly ever drinking and being one of the most even keel people I know, to guzzling bottles of Marker’s Mark and trying to fight anyone who comes within 3 feet of you. This doesn’t sound like the actions of a man that is doing ok in life.” Mick said pulling me further in the room so that I could sit down.
“We all know that you are ex-army, but none of us know what went down there, no one knows what went on down before you came here. I can only imagine that it was something that left a permanent mark on you.”
I just nodded my head, I rarely talked to anyone about my time fighting for my country, but the way I was feeling made me think that I just might need to.
Chapter 6
“All this waiting is killing me, there is no way that they don’t know it’s us.” Prez slammed his cup back down on the bar. The gold liquid sloshing and falling over the edge of the glass. Everyone was on edge waiting for the Cobras to make their move. There is nothing like sitting in one spot waiting for someone to come attack you, and since we are all on fucking lockdown, that is exactly what we were doing.
I sat on the edge of the bar and listened to what was going on. I didn’t have much to add, in fact I was nothing but dead weight since we left that fucking party. Constantly questioning what I did wrong at that dreaded moment.
The doubts ran rampant through my mind all day and night. The only thing that seemed to shut the voices in my head up was Jack Daniels or whatever other alcoholic piss was laying around.
“I mean are we sure though, do we know for sure that they know it was us?” Wire asked looking to Clean for an answer, an answer that he could not give.
“How the hell am I supposed to know? I was there right along with you. They didn’t come after us and we didn’t leave any traces of us, but I can’t tell you that there was no one around to see us as we ran out the club.” Clean shrugged his shoulders, and took a swig of his brew.
“What do you think, Archer, what is the possibility that they know it is us who took the shot?”
“Of course they know it’s me, who else could have made that shot?” Andfuckeditupbutme.I could hear myself slurring my words, and from the looks I was getting from Wire and Prez, they could hear it too.
“Prez, he’s right. No one else I know could have made that shot.”
“So why the fuck haven’t they come, has anyone even heard anything about what is going on with Cleve? Did he even survive? This whole situation is shit!” Prez asked.
“I don’t see how, there was a hole the size of a grapefruit gaping through his chest” Clean said with a smirk on his face. That man could find a joke in any scenario.
“Prez, we need more intel.” Wire couldn’t stand to be in the dark, he needed to know what the next steps would be.
“I know it, if the Cobra’s don’t know it was us that took the shot they are going to start going for other clubs, our allies. We can’t afford to make anymore enemies.”
“Exactly, we need to get the fuck off of lockdown. We can’t do anything here. We need to re-up our supply, try and find Larry’s sister and get our shit together before we get blindsided here.”
Wire looked directly at me, as he said his get our shit together comment. He meant me, I didn’t give a fuck.
Prez threw down the rest of his drink, “Alright, You guys do what you have to do, just make sure everyone is watching their backs. That’s all we need right now, them to fucking roll up and take us out one by one.” He stood up and walked over to the church, I assumed he was about to call the higher ups to let them know what was about to go down but for the life of me I couldn’t get excited about the fact that I was free. Finally, I would be able to go out.
“Well, thank fuck for that!” Clean clapped me on the back and scooted down off his stool.
I went to get down and go up to my room but Wire stopped me before I could.
“Archer, give me a second.”
“What?” I was done with the judgement that was oozing from him. You’reafuckup, ofcoursehewouldbejudgingyou.”I shook my head trying to get the thoughts to go away, I would need another fifth of liquor before they would though.
“This isn’t your fault brother, as much as you might want to make this your problem alone. We all played a part that day.”
I turned to get a better look at him. Did he think he was talking to a fucking schmuck? I knew that this was on me. “How the hell could you say something like that? Were you the one that pulled the trigger?”
“Nah but…”
“Were you the one to line up the shot?”
“No…”
“Then this shit isn’t on you! Don’t treat me like I am a fucking idiot.”
“No one is treating you like anything, I am telling you that we are in this together. Take it however the fuck you want to take it.” He stood up getting closer to me, “I don’t know what you have to do to get your head back on straight but I wish you would hurry the fuck up. I won’t sit by for much longer while you act like a dumbass.” He bumped me on the way away from bar.
I turned towards the bar, my cup was empty. That shit wasn’t going to do.
“Mick, let me get that bottle.” I lifted my hand and pointed to the bottle of Jack Daniels, at least I thought that I was pointing at the right one. At the moment, I could see three of them.
The old timer shuffled his way towards me. Mick didn’t have to move fast for anyone and he knew it. I would have my teeth knocked out before I raised a hand to that man.
“I don’t think that is a good idea, kid.”
“Did I ask you if it was a good idea? I want the fucking bottle, so just give me the motherfucking bottle.”
“Archer, you don’t need another drink, you need to get some rest.” He tried to walk away from me. I slammed my hand down on the bar to stop him.
“Fuck you, Fuck all of you. I don’t need your pity, I know when I have had enough and I am telling you that I haven’t.” I could feel the rage boiling up in me, I was going to go off the deep end at any minute. I was looking forward to it.
“Whatever, it’s your funeral.” Mick grabbed the bottle and slid it to me, I almost let it slide right past me. I guess I was a little more messed up than I wanted to believe. “Do me a favor though, try not
to fall so deep into the bottle that you can’t see your way up. I don’t want to lose you to the drink Archer, and the way you are looking I’d say you are on your way.”
“Cut the shit, I’m fine, I can stop anytime I want.” I looked at the bottle and then back to Mick. I wasn’t an alcoholic, I was too disciplined for something like that.
I walked slowly up the stairs to my room, usually I liked the layout of our club but not today. Today it seemed dangerous. The clubhouse had an open floor plan with the second level designated to hold all of our rooms. The walkway only had a waist high wood railing keeping me from falling straight back down to the first floor. It was a long way down.
I opened the door to my room, not a book out of place. I was meticulous like that. I could bounce a quarter of my bed the sheets were so tight. I sat on the chair in the corner and put the bottle on the floor. DoIreallyneedtodrinktokeepmyheadstraight?
I looked at the bottle and willed myself not to drink but the more I told myself that I wasn’t going to drink the more the voices in my head screamed at me how much of a screw up I was. Mick was right, if I wasn’t careful I was going to become dependent on this shit.
Great,anotherfuckingweakness.
I kicked the bottle away from me, I’ll be damned if I was going to fail at another part of my life. I dropped down on my bed not even bothering to peel back the sheets, I closed my eyes and prayed for sleep, doing my damndest to ignore the steady shake in my hands of the withdrawal to come.
Chapter 7
I spent the next few days in my room, mostly in pain from the alcohol withdrawal. I only came out to piss and eat. Any other time I was in there going over the shot. I spent years in the military becoming one of the best marksmen in the world. I couldn’t understand how I could have made such an egregious mistake. I had made tougher shots in battle zones where people were getting blown up and limbs shot off, so it wasn’t that I was distracted. I used the same rifle that I have always used so it wasn’t an equipment error. I refused to believe that it was luck, I didn’t subscribe to bad luck. So the only explanation that I could come up with was that I was a fuck up, the same thing the doubts in my head have been screaming for the past few days. I just wasn’t accustomed to feeling like this, I had to figure out a way to get my head on straight. I only knew of one way to do it. I had to get to the bottom of the truth.
“Yo, Clean you down there?” I stuck my head out of my door. Hoping beyond hope that he was here and had more information than I did.
“Nah, he hasn’t been back since the lockdown was lifted.” Mick called up. “I am sure that he will be back later though, were there is tits and ass, there shall be Clean.”
I gave a small smirk at that, Mick was right Clean for sure was going to be at the club tonight. There was going to be a party, to celebrate our freedom. All the club bunnies were supposed to be here. Clean would show.
The party was going full swing, and everyone was living it the hell up. I sat down in the corner looking around the area at the different pieces of ass that were being paraded in front of me. There were strippers galore and some girls I was sure were escorts. One of
the older club bunnies, Cherry, stopped right in front of me. She had on a leather one piece so tight that her boobs practically fell out of the top. Her ass was generous and firm, honestly the girl’s body was on point.
“So tell me handsome, what can I do to get that scowl off your face?” She straddled my thighs, taking extra care to rub her mound on my dick.
“You don’t want to mess with me today, I’m not in the mood to be gentle.” I tried to push her off my lap but she locked her arms behind my neck.
“Gentle, who wants that shit? Lose control with me, let me have it all.” She stared me straight in the eyes as she snaked her tongue out of her mouth and licked my bottom lip. Then to my surprise she caught that same lip in her teeth and bit down hard. I didn’t scream out or jump, but I could see what she wanted and as long as she knew what she was asking for and she was a willing participant, I was going to give it to her.
“Get the fuck off of me and go to my room.”
She smiled bright and jumped off my lap. She made it to my room before I could even adjust myself fully and get down from the chair I was sitting in.
“That’s what I am talking about brother, let her show you her many talents.” Maddox called out as he passed me on his way towards the DJ booth. I could have kicked him in the back of the head for that remark. I wasn’t interested in her fucking talents, I was a caged beast. All this doubt that had been running through my head for the past few days, I didn’t want to have a little fun, I wanted to be released. Hard, rough, and painful.
I went to the bar were I could see Wire and Keeley kissing when she was supposed to be the one to give the guys drinks. All of the Ol’ladies tried to do something whenever there was a party and this time Keeley chose to play bartender. It would have been fine if Wire wasn’t so busy trying to maul her behind the bar. It was fucking disgusting how happy they were.
“Key, can I get a whiskey?” I shouted at the back of Wire’s head. The only response that I got was a middle finger from my brother
who refused to take his tongue out of his woman’s throat.
“Dillon, wait…” Keeley tried to pull away, barely. She giggled when Wire pushed her further back against the booze. There was no way that she was going to be able to help me anytime soon.
Fuckit.
I reached behind the bar and picked up the first bottle that I could grab. A bottle of Jack Daniels that was 3 quarters of the way full. Thiswouldhavetodo. I looked around one more time to the women and my brothers all having a grand time. They were laughing, random women were being felt up on, drinks were being spilled. I was so fucking tired of everyone laughing, don’t they know how screwed up life was at this very moment? I guess it paid to be ignorant.
I shook off my thoughts as best as I could and made my way up to my room. I opened the door and Cherry was already laying on my bed, her purse in my chair, the contents half spilled out. Her shoes off, strewn across the floor.
Messybitch.
I hate slobs, shit should go where it belonged not just where it could be thrown. I walked over to her and looked her over. I picked up her hands and analyzed them, her nails were real. This would do. Those fake nails didn’t hurt
“Oh, I am so ready for you.” Cherry purred as she stood and made her way over to me. She used her fingers to trail a line over my biceps. Her touch did nothing to cut through the numb. I took my Kutte off and hung it up on the hook on the door. Where it belonged. She followed me, fondling my ass and lifting my shirt to get to my abs.
I keep myself in pristine shape. Thanks to my time in the military, I have the body of a machine and enjoy the upkeep. I never really cared that I was prize to look at by the women. I kept in shape so that I would be able to beat the shit out of anyone who decided that they wanted to test me. I was a marksman but I guarantee there wasn’t anyone who wanted to meet toe to toe with me in a hand to hand dispute.
