Which Are Absolutely Best Ways for Treating Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux (which, when chronic, is referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)) occurs when food or liquid from your stomach travels back into your esophagus, causing heartburn, regurgitation, burping and stomach pain. But more than just discomfort, the chronic surge of stomach acid in your esophagus can lead to scarring, which can trap bits of food, and may also increase your risk of esophageal cancer. Bleeding and breathing problems can also occur. Acid reflux is incredibly common, impacting up to 40 percent of Americans, and its incidence is on the rise. One study found that the number of people suffering from acid reflux rose by 30 percent from 1995 to 2009, and those suffering from GERD symptoms at least weekly increased by 47 percent. Anyone can suffer from acid reflux, but certain conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, asthma and pregnancy, can increase the risk.
