Greening Cities

Greening Cities presented by Fleming’s Nurseries and delivered by NGIV and University of Melbourne, took place on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st of April 2022 at The University of Melbourne’s Burnley Campus, and was a resounding success.

Just under 200 attendees with representatives from 17 local councils, environmental consultant groups, property developers, urban greening consultants, landscape designers, national media, academics, water boards and horticulturalists, enjoyed two days of expert panel discussions designed to educate, inspire and support attendees to get greening.

‘Thank you so much for all your work on the Greening Cities Forum. It was fabulous and I hope theses continue. The conversations that are stimulated through these events are so hopeful for us all working in this space!,’ said Lia De Gruchy. Urban Forester for Maribyrnong City Council.

Our sponsors took the opportunity to engage with the wide-ranging audience, educating them about their offerings and the industry at large.

‘It was fantastic to be able to connect with so many relevant and diverse stakeholders. It was a great opportunity for SureGro TreeMax but also the broader horticultural industry,’ explained Bruce Durant of SureGro TreeMax

An esteemed roster of speakers from the likes of Royal Horticultural Society, Earthwatch Australia, Greener Spaces Better Places, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and Fleming’s Nurseries, discussed topics including Greening the Public Realm, Sustaining the Urban Forest, Novel Approaches to Greening the City, Natural Turf Best Practice, Green Roofs and more.

A big thank you to Greening Cities Presenting Partner; Fleming’s Nurseries who took the opportunity to showcase their expertise, services and stock.

‘Congratulations to NGIV and The University of Melbourne on the success of Greening Cities. The two day event provided a fantastic forum for robust discussion about our future urban environments. As a presenting partner, Fleming’s appreciated the opportunity to showcase our new products and engage across multiple industry sectors,’ said Leanne Gillies, Research and Innovation Manager at Fleming's Nurseries.

Thank you to Heath McKenzie of Australian Growing Solutions who hosted Greening Cities, and David Reid and Lizzie Earl of NGIV for all their efforts in creating this wonderful event.

The appetite for this event from both attendees and industry means we hope to add Greening Cities to our yearly roster of events.
