Balcony Gardens by DEEPDALE is a boutique studio based in Melbourne. We create bespoke designs to add warmth, depth and appeal to our clients’ small garden spaces. Our individually tailored and created designs are unique for each of our clients. We work closely with our clients to understand their needs and desires so we can then select suitable plants and garden pieces for their bespoke creation.
Our name pays tribute to a stunning farm that my auntie and uncle owned, Deepdale, on the banks of the Goulburn River. We wanted the name to continue in the family prior to the property being sold. The magnificent oak tree near the house features in our logo.
Our team has years of experience operating a gardening business. After creating small space garden designs for friends and family, as well as our own, we decided to change our business focus. We have had success in launching new business ventures in the corporate business environment, as well as managing and leading large business teams. We recognised that small space gardening was a niche market that we have honed due to our focus. Our experience with design and our ability to create bespoke spaces inside and out, along with our passion for gardening lead to Balcony Gardens by DEEPDALE.
Our preferred nursery is Poyntons Nursery located on the banks of the Maribyrnong River in Essendon. It’s close by and very convenient to visit on a regular basis. They stock a broad range of premium plants for us to select for our clients. We often meet our clients there, to discuss suitable plants, then our clients enjoy the café and gift stores on site. The staff at Poyntons offer exceptional service. Our preference is to source the majority of pots, ornaments and other pieces from local Victorian businesses. We also work with local Melbourne artists, who create and design bespoke items for us. Supporting other privately owned business is important to us and we are always looking for new suppliers for that unique and special piece.
The average week is varied, we usually have a couple of garden installations to complete, along with the addition of maintaining gardening services for our creations. Also meeting new clients and creating their design. Spending time at Poyntons reviewing and buying plants. We also allocate time to read industry newsletters and articles, review design programs as well as visiting suppliers and sourcing supplies.
We chose to become members of the NGIV as we recognised the importance of supporting the industry from a professional business approach. The newsletters are interesting reading. The added value that NGIV offers to members is a bonus.
Balcony Gardens joined the NGIV as a Full Member in March, we’re thrilled to have them as part of our community of horticultural businesses.
