WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AS SYMBOLIC FORM
Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) The central vanishing point is where all the perpendiculars or “orthogonals” have to meet. The central vanishing point is always perpendicular from the eye to the picture plane. All parallel planes have a common vanishing point. Equal dimensions diminish progressively as they recede in space.
Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)
Homogenous space can be described as space that is purely mathematical and cannot be perceived by the limitations of the human eye. It is infinite and unchanging.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 I chose a central view of the Old Quad because it would be suitable for the scene where Arachne challenges Athena in a weaving contest.
This perspective was selected because it gives a perspectival view of the scene with various degrees of depth.
6
PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2
This is the scene in the past before Arachne challenged the Goddess, Athena in a weaving contest. This was seen through the eyes of the narrator as he traverses through time and space.
This is a scene in the present and after Arachne is transformed into a spider by the curse of Athena. I found it fitting to relate the story of Arachne to the city of Octavia because of their similarity in the theme of weaving and hanging, hence the name, “The Spider-web City.
7
In this scene, I tried to depict the happy life of the residents of Octavia in their main trade which is weaving. I’ve also included a tiny scene from the original story of Arachne when she challenges Athena to a weaving contest.
8
Hopefully Athena curses Arachne along with the citizens of Octavia to forever live like spiders in an endless chasm and have their city hang by the same threads that used to be their lifelines in their business. (Now literally a life-line)
I chose to suspend the scene between cliffs to represent the uncertainty of the future of Octavia’s residents. I tried to represent the “hanging theme of Octavia not only through literal placement of hanging objects but also through the characters.
I tried to depict the characters in having issues that make their life hang by a thread. The lifelines of the people are as unstable as the chains that hold this city together. Besides that, I also chose a darker color theme for this scene to show the negativity involved. :(

WEEK 4 READING: MAPPING THE UNMAPPABLE Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) In autographic practice, the work has to be produced by the author himself to be effective. In allographic practice, the work can be produced without the direct intervention of the author.
Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) Architects need new representational techniques to be able to keep up with the current situation.

FINAL DRAWINGS Thin CiTies 5: OCTavia
In this city, Marco travels back in time to witness the competition between Arachne and Athena (perspective 1). Then, he travels forward in time and witnesses the downfall of Octavia after Arachne and its inhabitants were cursed by Athena (perspective 2). The usage of various different notations indicates the pace of Marco and his feelings during the time of his visit.
