ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

2 0 2 0 C ATA L O G BRINGING THE WORLD TO THE CLASSROOM AND THE CLASSROOM TO LIFE

OUR MISSION Dear Educator, The world is an incredible place that needs no embellishment or substitutes. As is, it inspires curiosity and motivates learning. At National Geographic Learning, we want to reflect it as accurately as we can through content that is authentic, compelling, fascinating and often amazing. In our learning materials, we focus on authentic global content that teaches English and introduces learners to aspects of the world that they have not yet experienced. We believe that in this century global knowledge is an essential skill, and you can’t understand the world if you don’t experience it. We want learners to experience it through our materials. We hope to give students reasons to communicate, and the tools to do so effectively. We want each learner to find her or his own voice in English, so they can use it to successfully navigate this incredible world, in whatever goals they have: work, study, or play. From kindergarten to university, you’ll find new and exciting materials throughout this catalog. We look forward to collaborating with you.

English for DGB

Martin Milner, Kristin L. Johannsen, Becky Tarver-Chase Crossroads for DGB is an exciting new four skills, general English series which uses National Geographic content, images, and video to teach the language that learners need to succeed in their daily lives. The series is built upon clear and practical learning goals which are presented and practiced through appropriate themes and topics. Crossroads for DGB uses real people, real places, and real language to connect learners of English to the world. A competency-based series: The National Geographic texts are ideal to develop the generic competencies, which allow learners to understand the world and influence it. The generic competencies also provide learner’s autonomy in the learning process and promote harmonious relationships. • A competency-based syllabus gives learners the chance to practice language through communicative tasks, build their language strategies, and find their way to becoming more comfortable in the real world • The communication competencies are developed through social practices of the laguague which help learners interpret and produce oral and written texts • National Geographic Video allows teachers to bring the text to life in the classroom
