INTRODUCTION Law Digest Africa Awards is proud to continue to promote excellence in the practice of law in Africa. With over 175 entries from more than 15 countries across Africa and Europe, the award has proven itself once again as the most coveted award for lawyers in Africa. With firms from Mozambique, Rwanda, Egypt, Morocco, Ivory Coast and Angola submitting entries for the first time, we are pleased that the award has been well received across the continent. The quality of the submissions have been very impressive, which made judging very difficult. We would like to thank all participants, including the candidates, referees and most of all our judges who have given of their time to review the submissions. We would also like to thank our sponsors Stephenson Harwood for their continued support. We hope that you will all continue to support the award for years to come.

M&A deals simultaneously, in addition to medium and small transactions, across all sectors. The team’s areas of speciality include business mergers involving international and African partners. In addition, by combining financial, tax, competition, regulatory and employment law expertise, ENSafrica has become known for its value-generating role in corporate restructuring. The employee and labour law aspects of these restructurings are addressed at the outset, thereby minimising risk and ensuring proper management of these resources. Clients include many listed companies, multinationals, foreignlisted entities, private companies and state-owned enterprises.

The firm also has dedicated China and India practice groups, which focus on the African strategies of these countries. Through the financial services centre of Mauritius, ENSafrica offers a unique possibility to integrate all aspects of structuring our clients’ investments in relation to all commercial areas of law, tax, fiduciary, forensics and IP. These factors enable ENSafrica to offer clients the most costeffective and appropriate solutions, no matter where they do business in Africa.
Shortlisted for: ENSafrica is representing Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV (“AB InBev”) in relation to the corporate, competition law and other regulatory issues arising from its proposed acquisition of the entire issued, and to be issued, share capital of SABMiller Plc. This deal involves the highly publicised merger between AB InBev, the largest brewer in the world, and SABMiller, the second largest brewer in the world. This will lead to the creation of the world’s largest, and first truly global, brewer, accounting for approximately one third of the global market for beer sales. With AB InBev’s bid for SABMiller amounting to around US$106billion, this deal is one of the largest corporate transactions in recent history.
