Hello Ladies, I hope that you’re all well and have managed to enjoy our English summer months! (Short but sweet) Well, now it’s time to do some REAL shopping because if there’s one thing that we can be sure of, it’s that you’ll get plenty of wear from your Autumn/Winter wardrobe! So what is on trend for the coming months? Lots of Blues.... Navy blue, Royal blue all shades of blue. I think blue is quite a neglected colour - it’s not been a fashionable colour for a long time but is actually as versatile as black. Navy mixes and matches with most colours, it looks great with winter white, reds and even all the taupe, rusty colours that are also very popular this season. Textures.... a must have is leather/ leatherette teamed with tweeds, angora, cashmere or any great wool textures. I wasn’t quite sure how this look would go in Boutique 11 so I just bought a little taste of it .... I’ve already sold out and re-stocked; jeggings, trousers skirts and tunic dresses in leatherette! I can hear some of you out there already saying...”I’m far too old for that look”. Please let me stress once again ... it’s not what you wear but how you wear it and what you team it with!!!! A perfectly fitting leather/ leatherette tunic or skirt looks fantastic teamed with a lovely mohair sweater or good quality long sleeved t-shirt, a great scarf and some lovely warm 80 denier coloured tights this is a fabulous look on most ladies!

For the not so daring .... A great pair of quality jeggings teamed with a wow factor long sparkly chunky sweater, some flat loafers/brogues or boots and you will be right on trend. Long/short pretty much any length waistcoats or gillet are also in fashion, maybe with a little fur (not real) or leather trim. I personally love sleeveless jackets as they’re still really warm but don’t make you feel restricted. A note for my existing customers (and you know who you are) ... I’m trying REALLY hard to get some furry, fingerless gloves again this year as I couldn’t get enough of them last year! Also the fur boot cuffs which pop around the top of any boot to TOTALLY change the look and give the impression that you’ve spent a fortune on a new pair of trendy boots. Boots are coming in all different shapes, lengths and heel sizes - everything from beautiful flat riding boots to black patent dress boots, to stressed looking cowboy boots to bright red with lots of fur ski boots (in store now). For those of you that haven’t yet made it up the Boutique 11 please come along and take a look, you’ll find a great variety of sizes and prices for ALL ages. I really mean that! My customers are daughters, mothers and grandmothers all going out with lovely, lovely clothes that they not only feel trendy in but suit their age and size! Hopefully see you soon. Christmas Snackers! Delicious party food that can be made in a flash.... Cajun Chicken Fingers

Serve these on their own with a dip - or put into mini pitta or nan breads with some lettuce and mint dip.

900g chicken breast - cut into strips 3tbsp olive oil 3 cloves of garlic - crushed 3 tsp cajun seasoning 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp lemon juice black pepper

method

Add all the ingredients to a large strong freezer bag or bowl. Make sure the chicken is well covered with the marinade and leave in the fridge for 24 hours. Heat the grill. Place the chicken pieces on a large baking tin and grill for 10 mins - turn the fingers over and grill until cooked and a bit charred at the edges. Makes about 25 fingers depending on the size you cut them.

Chilli Stars

These light chilli scones are delicious topped with cream cheese and parma ham or make your own toppings up. 225g self-raising flour Â˝ tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 50g butter/marg 1/4 pt milk 2 or 3 tsp chilli powder 1 tbsp tomato puree 2 tsp paprika milk to glaze

Crunchy Chocolate Squares

This fridge cake is very sweet - you need to cut these into really small squares. 400g dark chocolate 150g marg/butter 2 tbsp golden syrup 2 tbsp honey 2 crunchie bars - smashed into bits 100g marshmallows - cut into bits 80g chopped nuts (I used hazelnuts)

method

Break the chocolate into bits and add to a saucepan along with the fat, syrup and honey. Stir over a gentle heat until all melted. Pour into a large bowl and cool down until just warm. Then add method the chopped nuts, marshmallows and crunchies. Stir really well heat oven to 220Â°C. Sift flour, salt & and pour into a 20cm square non stick tin. Chill until set and cut into baking powder into a bowl. Add fat squares. Makes 30. and rub between fingers til mixture Sweet Chilli Prawns resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the chilli powder & paprkia. Mix. These take 2 minutes to prepare. Make a well in the centre. Add the 2 x 145g packs cooked, peeled prawns tomato puree & milk. Mix until you 3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce have a soft dough. On a floured 3 spring onions - finely chopped surface kneed gently. Roll out to lime juice - splash about 1.5cm. Use a star cutter and 2 tbsp fresh coriander - chopped place shapes on a greased baking tray. Brush with milk. Bake for 10 seasoning to taste mins. Once cool, carefully cut in half bag of prawn crackers and add the topping of your choice. method Makes about 16 depending on the Mix the chilli sauce, spring onions, lime juice, coriander and size of your cutter. seasoning. For most people, Christmas is a time for fun and general merriment with the family, but for the same reasons it can also be quite a stressful occasion. The countdown to Christmas is well and truly under way and we have no doubt you will be busy writing your lists for Santa and buying presents for your friends and family. While you are out soaking up the festive atmosphere and spending your hard earned cash please take a moment to think about personal safety and the security of your vehicles and property. Christmas shopping is stressful enough without having to do it all over again because a thief has stolen gifts from your car. Every year, numerous motorists fall victim to this type of crime, whether they are halfway through a shopping trip, dropped their bags off at the car and gone back for round two, or returned home from a shopping trip and not yet unloaded the bags from the car. Don’t learn the hard way – remember to lock all your car doors, make sure windows are closed and under no circumstances leave items on display when your car is unattended. Local History by Bob Massey The villages of Calverton, Burton Joyce, Lowdham and Woodborough have a long and varied history. They are all mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086. Being isolated from Nottingham in the early days by forest, the Mapperley Plains ridge and lack of proper roads, the villages developed as rural agricultural centres under a Lord of the Manor. They were dependant on each other but not on the big towns. The villages were not on any major route and with travel difficult, visitors were restricted to those who had business in the area or who were visiting relatives or friends. Rural life was tough in the 16th Century and villagers looked for other means of earning a living. Stockings were worn by everyone, rich and poor, and hand knitting became a passtime of both men and women. It was something that could be done at any time. Knitting provided replacement socks and stockings for the family and a little extra money as there was always a market for these items. William Lee (pictured), the curate of Calverton, became fed up with the fact that his girlfriend, later to become his wife, was always knitting and not spending time with him. He therefore sat down and developed the first stocking frame knitting machine in the 1600â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s so that she would not have to work so hard at her craft. The potential of this was not seen in England. Lee was twice refused a patent for his machine so he took his invention to France where it was more successful. After Leeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s death, machines and trained workers came over from France and started the knitting and hosiery industry for which Nottingham became famous. Framework knitting became very popular, with large numbers of villagers giving up their needles

and taking up the frames in and around Nottingham. It was a real doemstic industry with the whole family involved. By 1810 large numbers of people were highly skilled and dependant on this work for their living. During the Napoleonic Wars larger frames were introduced that produced wider lengths of material and were operated by cheaper, unskilled workers. The Luddite movement was formed in 1811 as a reaction to this. Luddites damaged or destroyed machines used by employers who employed colts (untrained workers). In February 1812 Burton Joyce, like many other villages, was one of the areas attacked, with five sets of frames destroyed. Life changed for the area when the railway came in the 1840â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s linking the villages to Nottingham, enabling access to the wider world for both work and pleasure. It also provided employment for local people and the transport of local goods and produce, increasing the prosperity of the area. The opening of Calverton pit in 1952 changed the area again. There was an influx of workers from different parts of the country who came to work at the new mine expanding and further changing the community. With the closure of the pit in 1992 and the decline of local industries, the villages have changed again. Now home to many people who commute to surrounding towns and cities they are now more rural again. These villages have a long and varied history of which the villagers are justly proud.

Calverton MW FC A Great Club!! Calverton MW FC was established in 1952 and was one of the first 84 clubs in the country to be awarded FA Charter Standard Community Club. The club were winners of the Notts FA County Charter Standard Community Club Award in 2003, 2004 and 2011. They were winners of the National FA Charter Standard Community Club Award in 2005 and winners of Nottinghamshire Amateur Sports Club of the Year in 2004 – the first football club to win this award. Since the 1980’s the club has really blossomed. They now have 21 teams and facilities for players from 5 years old up to the veterans team including girls and ladies football and a disabled team. Coaching is provided up to EUFA ‘B’ level. The first team manager Paul Desnica is working with our young first team in the Central Midlands League (Step 7 of national ‘pyramid’ system) along with brother Jason Desnica. Calverton & Bingham Swimming Club

are a competitive, successful, friendly swimming club with lessons and training at Calverton, Bingham and other local pools, catering for all abilities from 5-99 (Masters). CABSC had a very busy summer.... our youngest swimmers held their very own mini Olympics just before the summer break. They had an Olympic torch relay and all got gold medals for their efforts in the pool. Three of our age group (9-14) swimmers and 7 of our youth swimmers enjoyed a particularly well earned rest for a couple of weeks during August. These swimmers train with NOVA Centurion (the County Squad) every day, often morning and evening, working towards achieving their Qualifying times for the British Gas National Championships which take place in July. This is a HUGE achievement for them and CABSC is very proud to say that most qualified for places in the finals and therefore a top ten place in the nation and, in many cases, medals too! Back at base, following a couple of weeks rest, we jumped straight back into our own Training Camp. The 4 day long August swim school held by our new Head Coach Mark Moore, was a resounding success. Swimmers were extensively drilled by our own team coaches with extra tuition from county coaches with our international swimmer Jess Sylvester doing some demos in the pool! This extra training left our swimmers raring to go, although a few of the older guys were aching by the end! STOP PRESS....... For the first time ever CABSC are the champions of the Sports Centre League, Division 1. Following a fraught and tense final round at Arnold which had our swimmers focused and very determined. Our triumphant team came 2nd on the night to Sherwood, beating Worksop into 3rd place. However once the gala points had been calculated, our consistent results placed us at the TOP of the League!. BIG PATS ON THE BACK FOR ALL AND A FABULOUS START TO THE SWIMMING SEASON!
