Announcement From Civil Society Organization Working Group Update on: Petition Submission on January 24 and Schedule for January 29 On January 24, the petition submission was continued. The representatives of the Civil Society Organization Working Group (CSOWG) from Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC), Housing Rights Task Force (HRTF), ADHOC, JASS South East Asia (Jass SEA), The Committee to Promote Women in Politics (CPWP), Khmer Student Movement (KSM), and Cambodian Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC) were able to meet with Ambassador of Embassy of India and representatives of United Nation Human Rights (OHCHR) to submit petitions and discuss on CSO's concerns and position. There was no matching campaign during the submission day. Ambassador of Indian was welcoming for the discussion, otherwise, no promise was made but to suggest that CSOWG should arrange the direct meeting with the government regarding the issue while the OHCHR representatives stated they will deliver the concern to Ban Ki-moon, the eighth and current SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations. On the other hand, the plan in submitting the petitions to Myanmar and Singapore Embassies was cancelled due to the senior representatives were not available to meet with the CSOWG representatives to yield the petition. Once the last petition is submitted to the final target as planned – China Embassy, the CSOWG will conduct the press conference at the same location, which questions are open to the media that participant during the occasion. Additionally, as of January 28, 2014, the number of endorsement on “Stop the Violence: A Call for Release, Investigation and Reparation” Joint Statement has been increasing during the past week and the current number is 197.
Along with the organizations ratification, the new strategy has been developed. By January 25, the CSOWG has deliberated and agreed to create the Online Petition in order to advance extra support from individuals that could urge the government and other related stakeholders to take immediate peaceful solution.
