Winston Churchill: “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.”

Architecture is a collaborative process that relies on teamwork and coordination. Professional projects are a collective team effort and belong to the company . In this portfolio, I have selected unused concepts —ideas I worked on. These projects do not follow a single design style but reflect different perspectives from each project I contributed to.

I believe in sustainable architecture —designs that last over time and adapt to urban growth. Through my experience in the modern industry, I have learned that sustainability is not just about materials but also longterm usability and economic efficiency. A well-designed building must be functional, safe for users, and optimized in terms of technical systems (MEP) and structure, balancing cost and performance.

As an architect, I continuously learn about planning regulations, fire safety, and building operations to create the best solutions for practical use and economic feasibility.I am a dedicated architect who is always striving to expand my passion and skills. I seek a company where I can contribute my best efforts to support its growth and the development of urban spaces.

The microcosm within the macrocosm

(A previous design in 2023)

Company’s Project | Shopping Mall

Location | Vietnam

Responsibilities & Contributions (2022- )

• Supported design teams in developing 2D and 3D functional layouts based on inputs from management, investors, and design consultants.

• Reviewed and synchronized information across structural, MEP, interior, and landscape disciplines, ensuring design consistency.

• Calculated fire zoning, exit stair/elevator requirements, checked technical parameters (GFA, NLA, floor area ratio, building density, etc.) to comply with local codes and regulations.

• Prepared 2D and 3D drawings for legal approvals and construction phases throughout the project.

• Reviewed and synchronized design information and proposed solutions from structural, MEP, interior, and landscape teams, ensuring overall consistency.

• Prepared report files for meetings.

Context & Concept:

The project is located in a new urban area, consisting of two adjacent land plots along the city’s main landscape axis. The design must maintain this axis between the two buildings, ensuring continuous spatial connectivity and minimizing ground-level construction.

The intersection between the project and the urban landscape axis is a prime location, ideal for creating a landmark with a unique architectural design. This enhances visitor attraction, making the space a vibrant hub for shopping and entertainment. The design emphasizes outdoor experiences while seamlessly guiding visitors into the commercial interior.

Design Approach

The project focuses on the F&B sector, with the F&B Hub as its central feature. This space connects to the pedestrian street, integrating outdoor events and open dining experiences. It is surrounded by indoor gardens with skylights, terraces, and balconies, enhancing the overall ambiance.

Context & Concept:

(one of my proposals in 2023)

The concept, named “a small island within a larger island” or “a microcosm within a macrocosm,” envisions a central F&B Hub elevated along the landscape axis. This hub is placed within the largest void of the mall, forming a seamless transition that draws visitors toward the next retail experience.

The urban landscape axis leads visitors horizontally into the F&B Hub, then vertically upwards, before seamlessly connecting them to the mall’s retail areas, ensuring a fluid and dynamic spatial experience.

The Kaleidoscope

Company’s Project | Office

Location | Quang Binh Province, Vietnam

Area | 960m2

Completion | 2021

Featured on ArchDaily and DesignBoom

Responsibilities & Contributions (2019-2021):

• Designed layout and created 3D models for triangular volumes.

• Produced construction design documents.

• Designed custom furniture pieces.

• Conducted six months of on-site author supervision, ensuring design execution.

• Reported project status to the Ho Chi Minh City office and resolved issues directly at the Quang Binh construction site.

Context & Concept:

The Kaleidoscope is a living and working building designed to withstand central Vietnam’s harsh climate—stifling humidity in the wet season, biting cold and typhoon in the winter. It provides shelter while maintaining a connection with nature through buffer spaces under its porch.

Inspired by the Vietnamese nón lá (traditional conical hat), the large sloping roof casts shade and frames ever-changing views of the surrounding hills and sea. The design integrates perforated ventilation blocks, common in tropical architecture, to regulate temperature and create dynamic light patterns.

The structure seamlessly integrates living and working spaces. Seven triangular volumes define private and communal areas—enclosed sections house bedrooms and offices, while open spaces in between serve as gathering areas like the central office and parlors.

The project was built by a mixed team of skilled workers from Saigon and local farmers, combining technical expertise with hands-on craftsmanship.

On-site supervision provided me with a deeper awareness of every line in the drawings, from scaled models to full-scale construction. Passion and dedication played a key role in overcoming challenges during the transformation of ideas into reality.

The process was a balance of careful planning and spontaneous problem-solving, reflecting both the client’s vision and the growth of local craftsmanship.

The project highlights the potential of rural construction, blending tradition with innovation.

Steel-Frame Mall Design

Company’s Project | Shopping Mall

Location | Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam

Completion | 2024

Responsibilities & Contributions:

• Developed construction drawings.

• Reviewed and coordinated information among stakeholders, including the investor, architectural consultants, MEP and structural departments, and the existing construction site.

Building Specifications:

Context & Concept:

This commercial service project aims to meet the shopping and entertainment needs of middle- and low-income residents in a densely populated city area. As a result, cost-efficient construction and brand identity recognition were established as primary objectives.

For the new hypermarket, a steel framework was chosen for its large-span capability, creating an open and spacious environment for public use. Additionally, it provided greater flexibility for functional adjustments, accommodating multiple operational layouts and maximizing rentable retail space.

Initially, a steel structure was proposed for its cost efficiency, structural flexibility, and ability to span large areas. However, the unexpectedly high cost of fireproofing ultimately undermined the original affordability goal, turning it into a significant financial challenge.

Biological Conservation Research Center

This is an imagined freeform shape I’m thinking about—exploring why and what a building’s shape can be, beyond square structural frames, easy construction, and low cost.

Project | Safari and Conservation Research Center

Area | 15 ha

Location | Bach Ma National Park, Hue, Vietnam (At the foot of the mountain, just before entering the national park gate)

Bạch Mã National Park features a green corridor stretching from east to west, dividing Vietnam into two distinct climatic regions: northern and southern. This unique geography fosters exceptional biodiversity.

The center was established to support biological conservation and enhance education and scientific research through two key design elements :

Safari Planning: A natural garden replicating a section of Bạch Mã forest and an artificial garden for cultivation and species propagation.

Biological Conservation Research Center : Situated in a pristine natural area, the architectural design integrates seamlessly with the mountainous landscape, ensuring harmony and balance with its surroundings.

Safari Planning

Planning Concept Landscape Zoning Analysis

Selected Planning Proposal

Advantages:

Incorporates all the benefits of the comparative proposal. Creates a buffer zone before the conservation area, isolating it from external spaces.

Preserves a large conservation area oriented towards the water source. Simplifies traffic circulation.

Disadvantages:

The energy zone is located far from the main hub.

Landscape Component Distribution Map

Comparative Planning Proposal

Advantages:

Zoning lines follow the natural contour lines of the terrain. Clearly separates the natural habitat of flora and fauna from human activity areas.

Disadvantages:

The conservation area occupies a relatively small portion of the site. Lacks a buffer zone to isolate the conservation area.
