Senior School

Both my girls have a strong sense of community and have a close group of friends who support each other. I feel they are gaining skills to prepare them for life and I can see they are treated as individuals rather than exam statistics. Parent

This is a school with a long tradition of academic and creative excellence, where we seek to inspire, empower and challenge each girl to be herself. The girls are well grounded, confident and independent, keen to make a positive difference in the world. They are proud of their school, and they value kindness and laughter, fun and friendship. With a rich and varied co-curricular programme, and a strong emphasis on charitable activities, the girls enjoy being part of a warm, supportive and vibrant community, where they can express their passion for learning, and for life. Our parents say this, our girls and staff say this too. Come and visit us and you’ll see why.

INSPIRED

At Notting Hill & Ealing your daughter will discover ideas that excite her. She will find inspirational teaching by specialists who love their subjects and an ambitious academic programme, which offers both breadth and depth at every level, and goes well beyond the confines of any examined curriculum. We are proud of the fact that success here can be seen not only in our outstanding examination results, but in girls who are articulate, confident and happy and who enjoy all the challenges of the broader intellectual development on offer to them.

For many of our students that first school language trip is a real ‘light bulb moment’ that gets them excited about learning a language and understanding another culture. Our own terracotta general is a souvenir of such a visit

Teachers here know their students exceptionally well, and draw out ambition and curiosity in them. The girls emerge confident in themselves, aware of the world around them, and having found their niche. Mr Matthew Shoults, Headmaster

A happy and hard-working school where our daughters are encouraged to make the most of the fantastic opportunities available to them.

CREATIVE

A Level piece by Megan Soper

There is always something going on here: girls are immersed in choirs, orchestras and ensembles, performing in plays or running lighting, sound or costume backstage, and the walls and corridors are alive with displays of their work. However, creativity at NHEHS isn’t something that is just confined to ‘creative people’ or ‘the arts’. It’s present in the freedom girls have here to make things happen: to organise an event to raise money for charity, to start a club or to share their enthusiasm in an assembly. It is evident in the confidence they develop here to realise their own initiatives and undertake new projects. It is deeply embedded in every lesson by teachers who encourage students to think laterally and to make connections across disciplines.

CONFIDENT

An enjoyment of discussion, collaboration and an openness to the ideas of others flourish here

NHEHS is unique. Everyone remarks on the warm atmosphere, the enthusiasm of girls and staff, the school ‘spirit’, the sense of community and belonging and the fun, friendship and laughter which are so much a part of life here. Underpinning everything is excellent pastoral care which puts the well-being of each girl at the centre of everything we do. It creates an environment which builds confidence and where tolerance, kindness and respect for others are valued alongside independence and individuality. Girls are encouraged from the very beginning to be themselves, to be able to deal with the odd setback or problem, to pick themselves up when perhaps things don’t quite go to plan and to take charge of their lives. A rich menu of opportunity is available to every girl through drama, art, music, sport and an extraordinary number of clubs and activities. Here girls can find their niche, grow in confidence and develop their abilities to make things happen. They become not only outstandingly academically successful, they also emerge as well-grounded, happy, young women.

Girls try a wide range of sports and find confidence and ambition in their achievements

PREPARED

Photo: Year 7 NHEHS

When they move on into the sixth form our girls are ready for the freedom to choose the subjects that excite them and a style of teaching that is an ideal stepping stone between school and university. They are also ready to lead their school, running and starting up clubs and events, coaching sports teams, acting as mentors or ‘big sisters’, organising Model United Nations, the School Council and House system and electing the Head Girl Team. These experiences stay with them and our students leave us as young women uniquely themselves, possessed of lifelong friendships, a reflective and caring outlook and a wide range of interests and life skills. They are ready to make their mark.

Year 7 begins with a day of team building exercises. Days like this, the shared challenge of DofE expeditions and the excitement of school trips and events keeps the spirit of fun and adventure alive throughout your daughter’s time here

NHEHS is a real community and generous spaces at the heart of the school mean somewhere to sit and discuss your work with a friend or teacher or to just meet up and chat with friends

My daughter is extremely happy at the school – NHEHS has a unique spirit which encourages the girls to believe in themselves. Parent

Girls and staff alike look forward to celebrating our special NHEHS traditions. From the exuberant ‘House Shout’ or the staff versus sixth form tug-of-war on sports day to the moving candlelit Christmas carol service, these are the events which enliven the school calendar and bring everyone together.
