Presented by the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust! We have an exciting program for 2018, including films, panels, performances, art and parties! We definitely know how to put the FEST in a film festival! This year’s festival includes some new events. • On September 21st, Studio B in Boyertown opened the Art of Film exhibit. The winners from that show can be viewed at the WCR Center for the Arts throughout the festival. • Also on September 21st, the historic State Theater of Boyertown presented a preview event featuring trailers of films being presented at ReadingFilmFEST as well as the Berks County premiere of Traffic Opera. The State Theater is also presenting films during the festival. • FiveMinuteFilmFEST – a film competition for Berks County High School students made its debut this year. Supported by a grant from the Berks County Community Foundation, this event encourages young filmmakers to explore the world of filmmaking and screen their films at the WCR Center for the Arts on October 18th. • We’re also excited to partner with the Berks Arts Council to bring the amazing jazz pianist Justin Kauflin to our closing night’s ceremonies.
Festival Director Welcome
Welcome to 4th Annual ReadingFilmFEST
ReadingFilmFEST is supported by over 30 community sponsors and grant organizations. We are so grateful for their support! Many thanks to our venues Reading Movies & IMAX, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts Boscov Theater, the State Theater in Boyertown and the WCR Center for the Arts. Thanks also to the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance for becoming a partner with ReadingFilm and for its support of the festival and filmmaking in Berks County. ReadingFilmFEST Volunteers make this event happen — including people who return each year to jury films, moderate panels, sell tickets and more! We’re especially grateful to Dr. Chris Woodward for managing the jurying selection, and Randy Miller, Elizabeth Clark, Natalie Farst, Shawn Thomas, Jason Hugg and Jen Reimer for their leadership. Last but certainly not least, our staff. Cammie Harris joined us this year as the Festival Manager of the festival. Her dedication, organizational skills and hard work have been key to the success of this event. Melissa Varone returned as Marketing and Special Events coordinator. Her communication skills have been so important throughout the months leading up to this weekend. Thank you both!
Enjoy the festival! Tracy Schott

This was his first lesson in the willing suspension of disbelief. For the past 2 years, Chris has been a volunteer Juror and Panel Moderator for the ReadingFilmFEST shorts. He loves to find modest budget, independent movie gems to recommend to his adult children.

About our Jury ReadingFilmFEST had 31 jurors that viewed the films entered into the festival for 2018, overseen by Associate Director/Jury Coordinator, Dr. Chris Woodward. When a film is submitted to the festival via our online submission platform, FilmFreeway, three jurors are assigned to view the film and give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. They also have the opportunity to rate the film on story, acting, directing and production values and add comments. All films that are given a majority of thumbs up by the jurors are then considered for programming. Accepted films are assigned to the celebrity judges in charge of a specific category: short, documentary feature, narrative feature, Latino, student short narrative, student short documentary, student music video. The judges view all entrants in their category and determine which is the winner. The People’s Choice Film is chosen by you, our audience. Please be sure to rate the films with the tickets you are given as you enter each screening. All winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, November 4th. We’d like to thank this year’s jurors for their time and careful consideration of each submission: Scott Kunkle Rachel Jarrett Matt Lane Karen Linder Lynneth Lohse Randy Miller Michael Piersol Stefanie Pilkerton Jerry Richter Noel Sanjuan Sharon Scullin
