For road trips, enjoy slow, scenic excursions, uphill challenges, and fast-paced rides on the blacktops of Berks County. Or try the region’s gravel trails. They often intersect with local historical sites, the Schuylkill River Trail, and interesting places across the county.

Follow our hiking trails to beautiful spots throughout the region. Hike the winding paths of Blue Marsh Lake Recreation Area for a scenic and relaxed walk. Head to the lookouts of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for unbelievable views, especially during the fall raptor migration. For a real challenge, try the 3-hour hike to and from the Pinnacle, part of the Appalachian Trail. Other great hiking spots include Nolde Forest, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, and French Creek State Park. Be on the lookout for hawks, eagles, and other forms of wildlife often spotted along these paths.

Who needs an ocean when you can swim, fish, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, and water ski in Blue Marsh Lake and French Creek State Park? The Tulpehocken Creek and Schuylkill River also get a fair share of boaters. Did you know we’re known for fly fishing? While we can’t promise the fish will bite, we promise you’ll enjoy beautiful views while you wait.
