The ReadingFilm office will present the 8th annual ReadingFilmFEST October 27 thru 30, 2022. Dubbed the “Filmmakers Film Festival,” ReadingFilmFEST supports regional and global filmmakers by connecting them with Greater Reading’s culturally diverse and vibrant community. ReadingFilmFEST has been rated as a Top 100 reviewed festival, chosen from over 6000 festivals worldwide. The festival is well attended by enthusiastic audiences, who enjoy meeting the creators of the films and learning more about their work.
ReadingFilmFEST is more than going to the movies: the 4-day event incorporates the region’s vibrant arts scene; integrating fine art, great food, music, and dance into its events to provide filmmakers and filmgoers a rich and unique experience.
Each year 50-60 filmmakers travel from around the region and around the world to Greater Reading for the festival. Filmmakers whose films are accepted into the festival receive VIP treatment that includes free lodging, workshops, a location tour, and networking opportunities with industry professionals, including film distribution companies. The festival receives submissions from filmmakers on every continent, giving viewers insight into the human experience across the globe. Since its inception, filmmakers have traveled from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South Americas, Iran, Great Britain, and even Australia to be a part of the festival.
ReadingFilm collaborates with a host of community partners in its efforts to present exceptional programs and activities during the festival. The 8th Annual ReadingFilmFEST will include:
• 50+ independent films and filmmakers from around the globe • A special “Made in Reading” category open to Berks
County filmmakers and/or films produced in the region • 2nd Annual Screenplay Competition • LUNAFEST, the world’s first all-women traveling film festival • Workshops for youth and emerging filmmakers • Rocky Horror Picture Show with live shadow cast featuring
Aimee Vanite • A location tour of Greater Reading for visiting filmmakers • Celebrity guest appearances • Art, music, and dance • Concerts, parties, and more! Although, ReadingFilmFEST is the film office’s biggest event of the year, the organization provides so much more. ReadingFilm provides year-round programming leading up to the international film festival that is designed to engage, entertain, and educate. As a new independent non-profit 501(c)(3), the organization plans to re-build the ReadingFilm office with the mission of creating a vibrant film production community for Berks County. This work not only enhances the arts community, but also creates new economic development opportunities for Greater Reading. The region offers filmmakers a plethora of location choices, a new film studio, ReadingFilm Studios, and significant savings on goods and services over larger cities in the region.
Benefits go beyond economic impact. Film production infuses communities with excitement, pride, and serves as a draw for tourism. According to Cammie Harris, Executive Director of ReadingFilm, “We look forward to bringing Hollywood to Greater Reading!” Look out West Reading! We may have a movie filmed on the Avenue soon!
